The biggest perk of SL is the lounge access. Whether boarding group is with J or PEY is not that material IMHO.

I experienced zoned boarding NRT-HKG a few days ago. It was slightly messy, but people generally kept to their zones as there were staff checking that you were in the right zone. I was in Zone 6, but had no issues getting overhead space. My guess is that besides the priority zones (1,2, 3?) they are boarding front to back.
