Here are the numbers. As for your chances, I'm not sure but seasoned veterans here might be able to help give you a better idea of your chances
still too early to tell, but right now I'd be heartened by what I see, particularly with CX826. So far this is what you'd want to see. Y class wide open, PEY pretty open, J class pretty open.

I'm waitlisted for business on the following CX itineraries. From everything I've read it seems like there's a decent chance of clearing; would appreciate any perspective from those more experienced:

17 April:
J6 C6 D5 I4 Y9 B9 H9 K6 M0 L0 V0 S0N0 Q0 O0
J6 C6 D5 I4 W8 R4 E3 Y9 B9 H9 K6 M0L0 V0 S0 N0 Q0 O0

20 April:
J9 C9 D7 I6 Y9 B9 H9 K9 M8 L0 V0 S0N0 Q0 O0
J9 C9 D7 I6 W9 R9 E8 Y9 B9 H9 K9 M8L0 V0 S0 N0 Q0 O0

What about the theory that "I" class availability is a prerequisite for award J to clear?

That is not really a prerequisite. CX may release redemption to a DM even with I0. I fare also varies with POS. A round trip I fare PEK-HKG-SFO-HKG-PEK often costs less than a W fare SFO-HKG-PEK-HKG-SFO. So while the assumption that CX may not release J (U) awards without I availability is often true, it is not always the case.

Anyone able help to check the J award possibility for CX806 HKG-ORD on 27 April? I am currently on waitlist and also have an issued PEY award ticket. Waiting the J award to be released so I can upfare using miles (I understand I need to pay 10K more for cancelling the PEY tickets). Thanks a lot!

So today I got a notification that my waitlist has cleared! Unfortunately, only one out of two has cleared- which is quite weird because my mom, the other passenger whose seat isn't confirmed yet, is the one who is a MPC member (joined months after putting ourselves in the waitlist, so I don't know if that still has an effect on it), plus I am only her redemption group nominee. Hoping we still get to sit in the same cabin, otherwise, is it possible for us to switch?

Some help & advice needed:

I booked two return premium economy redemption tickets for travel from HKG to MLE for travel 24 May / 31 May, and now wish to upgrade to business with points. I called MPC and was told that it's possible for USD100 per ticket to rebook + 26k miles. However currently there are no redemption seats available for the return leg. I also saw on their website that waitlist are available for the return date. Is it worth while being placed on waitlist? The call centre also mentioned that I will be charged rebook fee twice, first the outbound leg change to business and a second time if I get the return leg upgrade. Is this right?

Seems an it odd that Cathay is not willing to take my money and points...
