Stuff like priority check-in/boarding, SKL/*G lounge access and priority baggage are already built-in to the regular benefits of flying C.

As Cathay Boy said, it's pretty much a status which is all prestige but no real benefits.
Well, company rules are fly economy regionally but business long haul, so for those who do at least 3 long hauls a year, they do get some benefit from PPS when they travel regionally or when they travel on holiday. So there are some benefits.

Yes, and quite a few are disgruntled/annoyed with SQ, but always moan that they have no choice, to which I disagree .

OT: Without personal experience, I've always been under the impression of posts in this forum that it is indeed possble to even drop down to GR from DM if you're not flying enough and it's only discretionary that they do a 'soft-landing' down to Gold - probably linked to previous revenue/flight patterns.

But agree - I think as well that compared to other airlines, CX is actually providing quite a lot of benefits to their SL members. So much that some DMs and GOs even call for separate handling of them e.g. on priority boarding And no, I'm not one of those - I know where I come from!

My dad dropped down from GO to GR with no soft landing after 4 consecutive years of GO membership. Do not know whether this can be applied to DM, though.

I agree that CX SL is better than others..

I will add that I was a Delta Skymiles SL for 2 years until Feb this year, before I got to SL in CX.

What do I get as an SL Skymiles member? Well, just a priority check in and boarding priviledges. No lounge access, no priority baggage and no free extra leg room seats..

Just an equivalent of MPC GR member...

I also just a lowly silver, but I have been upgraded twice out of 15 in the past 9 months when I was flying in Y. I even got greated when I seated in Y and the lead stewardess even asked me "Mr. Xxx do you care for Chinese tea?"

Ops upgrade is depend on load factor

yeah 25% bonus miles for Skymiles SL.but what for?

Getting an award ticket for DL nowadays will cost you lots of skymiles compared to two years ago...

And to just get those priority check in or boarding, you have to fly 25K miles on any miles earning skyteam member airlines a year.. compared to just 4 sectors (or even none) for CX GR Marco Polo members..

And the free check in baggage and free complimentary upgrades in DL only works for US domestic flights

I am not sure what the OP is trying to achieve here. I know it sucks but if you go down to silver, you get the silver benefit like anybody else. I do not really see an issue here.

And yes CX is just like any other business; they are here to make money. Their goal is to squeeze every cent out of you.

I'm just trying to vent and validating that regardless of my continued loyalty to CX, in the end, the benefits and perks are only as good as your last mile earned. I think Cathay Boy hit the nail in the head, that the main difference I am trying to allude to is not the stated benefits of the tier, but more on the attitude and how I was treated as a Silver rather than gold/diamond in this current trip.

I got greeted as a SL in Y on a YVR - HKG flight (mind you, I've never been greeted since then...). I was even seated in the very last row!

I was greeted once as a SL on KA Y from HKG to KTM (Nepal) but I suspect the ISM only decided to greet me because there was probably not many to greet for this particular flight.
I agree with others that the lounge access and other little benefits for lowly SL like us are already a great perks. Thats enough for me to try keeping my lowly-valued loyalty with CX/KA.

I think the OP, who used to be DM and has been a frequent poster here (including while he was DM and GO), posted to show the vast difference in benefits he was used to as a DM (and then GO), compared to now as a SL. I don't think it's intended to say SL itself sucks on an absolute basis, just relatively it is a big downgrade.

For CX, you pretty much have to earn it cent by cent. And there is no way you can be sure that you have enough for award before it has expired.

Unless being sponsored - they have to pay $50.

At least your upgrade is your entitlement (if available). For CX, it is a gift.

I am simply trying to say each program has its own pros and cons, although it seems CX is a little bit better...
