I also just a lowly silver, but I have been upgraded twice out of 15 in the past 9 months when I was flying in Y. I even got greated when I seated in Y and the lead stewardess even asked me "Mr. Xxx do you care for Chinese tea?"
Ops upgrade is depend on load factor
