Don't be too sure. Industrial actions need not be pre-announced. Remember that MU Kunming incidence two years ago???

I just thought that was very interesting when I hear that... This pretty much tell us how CX management operated and how they treat their staff... Just my two cents!
Does other local cockpit crew share the same view? And is the pilot union going to support FAU? They can possibly strike at the same time

It is indeed good to hear both sides of the story, and I would not be surprise if CX PR department and Hong Kong media are in bed together, the same way CX upper management and Hong Kong Colonial Government were in bed together forever.

However, the problem in this case, as another poster mentioned, is still the issue of people taking advantage of the 70-hours pay no matter what system. I can understand CX thought they were going to save money with this new system, and after 10+ years of running it is starting to see some employees abusing the system, and now want to change it. This is what's my original point, the union should also acknowledge this issue and try to work with CX on how to protect the majority crew's benefits while stopping a loophole that a few people are taking advantage of.

Anyway, I do not want to debate this issue because I like CX cabincrews (for the most part), and I wish everyone well, however, like I have said before, CX is not making tons of money like they have in the past, and in tough economic climates there are tough choices, I just hope the union sees that.

CX agrees to remove the disputed clause from the agreement! Urging the union to sign the agreement today.

The union is not going to sign the new agreement today because they claim CX never send them the agreement. FAU will still hold the meeting on Monday and has formally invited CX and the Labor Department to attend and listen to their members...Doesn't sound so good now...

Oh my gosh, this is so weak... I hope there's another side to this story. CX didn't send it to them? What kind of lame excuse is that? Especially with today's technology, emails, etc. My goodness.....

Oh, and I love the threat of "working by the rules" - they will enforce the rules to the T and make the pax life horrible. Doesn't win any of my sympathy with this kind of threats....

They probably need to study the agreement in details before signing to see if there are any "loophole" like the one in their contracts

That's what I thought. I read the Hong Kong newspaper indicating CX urging the FAs to sign the new agreement immediately. This is unfair for the FAs as they are not allowed reasonable time to read through what they are signing. We will see how this goes.

If CX mgt merely struck out the offending "reconsider 70 hour rule" clauses and keeps the rest of the agreement the same, then CX attendants can sign it right away. If CX changed the rest of the agreement, then CX FA should strike immediately for mgt's bad faith (even tho I'm sitting with a CX tix in KUL...CX mgt is starting to piss me off).

I understand the FAs and union's concern. They really should read through what they are signing, rather than later claiming they "thought" or "assumed" what they signed was so and so.

How about just simply asking CX to put in writing that the new agreement is simply the old one with the 70-hour amendment, and if it is not the case then the contract is automatically void.

See, it's not that hard.

Easter holidays in HK ends on Tuesday April 6th. That's why they want a meeting on Monday and see if they will strike on the last day of the long weekend

Rather than start a new thread I figure I'll ask here. If the FAs do go on strike what would CX's gameplan be? Use non-HK based staff? So can I assume my JFK-HKG flight will be staffed by a bunch of last minute add-ons? Also, will it be significantly understaff (say only 2 FA per cabin)?

Just wondering if any long-term veterans here have experience FA strike before and can give some tips on what to expect.

Also, this "work by rules" protest, will it be a horrific pain in the butt on the pax? Again tips and expectations?

Traveling in 2 days with 2 clients and really nervous....

The cabin attendants of your flight is probably in NYC right now. Are they going to strike and stuck at NYC or fly back to HK and then strike? Anyone know? If they choose to strike at NYC, they probably have to pay for their own hotel and food?
