It will end when the general public is vaccinated and starts itching to travel. Right now, they're still scared and I'd even say jealous of those who dare to leave the country.

It depends what "the general public is vaccinated" means. If it is one dose for the adults who want it, it is going to be in the next one or two months. If it is when 80% of the population is vaccinated with two doses including children, that could be much longer.

Alberta can't ticket travellers refusing to quarantine because it hasn't adopted federal act

Interesting! But wouldn't the federal government be able to issue a fine even if the AB government didn't?

They could, but it looks like it is way too complicated to actually do it.
It is way to easier to issue a fine on the spot but for some reason it is not possible in Alberta (and in Quebec it is in theory possible but not enforced for some reasons...)

Isn't some of the airports in Canada federal land/properties and is under jurisdiction of RCMP?

Ughh St#pid cows. I got a call from govt on my home landline checking up on me, when I was still in hotel quarantine.

I would be really pissed if I now have a record or be fined for their st#pidity.

Hotel experience at YUL

Returning from FLA fully vaccinated--Covid Tested---with a Charlotte Change which collected many
Canadians on their way home from Mexico etc------Border Control dismissed our Company Evidence\abt our daily work down there in an Essential Industry----but andfocused on work not occupying 100pct of our time and refused to inspect Work Labtop-----commented abt we 'must' own Condo to be away in Fla---which resulted frantic last minute Hotel Booking in hugely over priced room to await Covid Test result------other had similar treatment.

The manpower/expense just at YUL to enforce these draconian rules is enormous esp for twice vaccinated people from Fla with all the CDC backup.

Agents are brainwashed to support the Official Line-------they seem astonished at 80yr olds not being "App Savvy" but reliant on an ancient labtop--no common sense----have an empty safe house waiting 20 minutes away when our Sentence is over.

Well, I guess it will be a very interesting chat with the CBSA officer on my way from here. I'm on a Caribbean island, living in a condo...btw, why is their problem how much do I work here? Nonetheless, I'm not taking a risk of being sent to some overpriced Covid hotspot and will repeat what I have done in April.

Well, it seems there is one (expensive) way to avoid the hotel stay

From the National last night, and now on CBC.ca:

Hundreds of private flights from international destinations have landed at airports across Canada despite federal rules directing commercial and business air travellers to four main cities where a quarantine hotel system is in place.

A CBC News analysis of data from Feb. 22 to April 26 provided by flight tracking company FlightAware reveals 884 private flights from international destinations to a random sampling of nine airports that don't have quarantine hotels, including in Hamilton, Ottawa, London, Ont., Kelowna, B.C., St. John's and Edmonton.
The aircraft captured in the data include luxury and executive private jets, recreational aircraft and helicopters. That data does not contain any information about passengers, including the number of people on board.

"If you're going to have a system in place that necessitates quarantining upon return from travel, it can't be sort of a two-tier system where some individuals get to bypass that system by virtue of whatever means of travel they're taking," said Dr. Leighanne Parkes, an infectious diseases specialist and medical microbiologist at the Jewish General Hospital in Montreal.
Looks like Hamilton is by far the most popular arrival airport.

International flights arriving in Canada would have to clear customs no matter what the destination. Wouldn't it be easy to turn them around and send them back?

Rich people are not affected by COVID measures. I live in Toronto and we still get big stars coming for movie shoots. Do you really think the government is making them stay at the airport quarantine hotels? LOL

Not if they are Canadian citizens. I know a couple of corporate high flyers who've used the private jet dodge.
