BA have cancelled all flights to PKX (Beijing/Peking) and PVG (Shanghai Pu Dong) "until 19 April 2020".

BA frequency to HKG has been reduced with effect from 13 February 2020 - see below for further details. From HKG, Cathay is running a heavily reduced schedule to mainland destinations until the end of March.

If you are due to fly to PKX, PVG and your flight is cancelled then you have refund, re-route and rebook options. BA can rebook on to several other airlines.
If you are due to fly to Hong Kong until 1st April you have refund and rebook options.
If you are transiting into mainland China you are also covered as above.
If you are transiting internationally (e.g. LHR-HKG-SYD) you are not able to move your flights, unless they are cancelled anyway.
The latest ba.com update was on 21 February 2020 at 1510.

This is a bit of a surprise.

Update 6 for Hong Kong
Update 18 for China

Both now state that refunds are no longer on offer for flights which are scheduled and for which the customer does not wish to travel. Alternative arrangements remain in place (rebooking on CZ etc). Critically, the rebook on to alternative value BA flights to other places is also available. This won't apply to the large number of customers who have had their flights cancelled, so long as they have not accepted the alternative booking. If you are in this position, my feeling is to get a refund and keep your options open.

My HKG flight were cancelled, with an automatically rebooking. I had no contact with BA in the meantime and I did not officially accept anything.
How much time does one have for requesting - and being granted - a refund after receiving the notification?

My reading of this is that you can get a refund until you do select an alternative, so as long as it takes. However at some point I guess it could be argued that you may be deemed to have accepted the rebooked service, and the longer you leave it, the stronger that argument would be. If this was booked directly with BA the contact centre will tell you immediately if you can have a refund, and payment could be fairly quick, under a week. If you have part travelled, or other sectors, or any other complication that requires a manual cancellation then it couid take 2 or 3 weeks.

BA27 on Friday LHR-HKG (that I'm booked on) was swapped from A380 to 777 this afternoon.

This could just be because a 380 has been injured: BA11/BA12 LHR-SIN Cancellations 24/25 Feb 2020

Makes sense. Shame, was hoping for a CW upgrade option with the number of seats on a A380!

I guess this is the time where BA gets to show its resilience. Walsh has said that BA is prepared for downturns like this and he has one chance to show that before he bows out of IAG.

I wonder how much they will be affected though, will travel fall significantly beyond China and Asia?

BA canceled my flight on the 8th of July (BA160 evening flight) and rebooked me on the morning flight, which I don't want, they also left my LHR-BCN flight untouched so I can't possibly connect, I will wait for QR to resume flight to China and try to have them to rebook me on QR.

At the moment BA rebook only on CX, JL and CZ correct?

Think the Coronavirus guidance on China only covers PVG-LHR up to 1 Jun.? Otherwise standard guidelines. And for the former CZ/AY/JL/CA with different available period.

I have an overnight trip to Milan on Monday. They have cancelled both outbound and return flights offering me rebooking options that don't work. Hence, I wish to cancel. Here's the thing. The outbound leg is the first leg of a return open jaw ticket coming back from Helsinki and I wish to keep the return leg. The return ticket is the same: first leg of a ticket where the retun is to Athens and I also wish to keep that leg. Both were cash bookings made in Club on BA.com. What are my likely options?

This goes beyond what the Guidelines state, simply because of the complexity of the underlying travel arrangements. If I've understood correctly you just want the Italy sections removed, that should be possible, but it will require a discussion with the Contact Centre. Before doing so, just check whether a full refund + self rebooking of the wanted sectors would be the better approach.

It was reported by Routesonline today that PVG will go down to seven flights a week from the current ten when service is resumed. They're increasing flights to BLR from seven to ten a week from April 23rd.
