BA have cancelled all flights to PKX (Beijing/Peking) and PVG (Shanghai Pu Dong) "until 19 April 2020".

BA frequency to HKG has been reduced with effect from 13 February 2020 - see below for further details. From HKG, Cathay is running a heavily reduced schedule to mainland destinations until the end of March.

If you are due to fly to PKX, PVG and your flight is cancelled then you have refund, re-route and rebook options. BA can rebook on to several other airlines.
If you are due to fly to Hong Kong until 1st April you have refund and rebook options.
If you are transiting into mainland China you are also covered as above.
If you are transiting internationally (e.g. LHR-HKG-SYD) you are not able to move your flights, unless they are cancelled anyway.
The latest ba.com update was on 21 February 2020 at 1510.

PVG next week for me on the way to Hanoi. I am slightly concerned to say the least but at the moment it looks like just being cautious.

It really isnt.

I'm not asking about the specifics of the virus, I'm asking about how BA will respond to those of us with travel plans over the next month ahead - of which there are quite a few.

I'm flying on 8th, so I suppose it's a case of monitoring, prior to calling BA and asking what options are open.

When do you fly?

msm2000uk If things do get worse and the trip is not work related, bear in mind also that there can be some good deals on MH and UL out of PVG.
Unfortunately I'm needed in PVG for work, otherwise I'd fly onward.

News and media creating panic for no reason, only couple of deaths and no demographic data released on these accept one man was 89... when your 89 most respiratory infections have good chance to finish you off especially if you have comorbidities which is likely..

People die from influenza every year which has caused a number of pandemics, yet we don’t panic every winter over that...

I flew to HKG on BA during SARS. If memory serves me correctly, the flights made a tech stop in BKK both ways for a crew change, so that the crew avoided laying over in HKG.

Depending on how bad the situation gets, BA might introduce a "tech" stop for China/HKG bound flights. ICN seems logical for PEK/PVG and BKK for HKG. But one can only speculate what BA would do.

Thanks for starting it - I'm off to Singapore in a few weeks, hadn't heard about the virus before your thread, now know there are already 7 cases in the last few days in SIN so will be keeping an eye on how this develops.

This type of attitude was the reaon that cause the SARS outbreak, and also the MERS outbreak few years ago. As the carrier does not think about the serious level of the disease and does not follow the contamination rules. They as a carier did travel far and spread the virus in term of worldwide.

As based on SARS experience, which results in the fatality rate between 10 to 20%, depending on the country. Authority does very concern about all the SARS like virus

The sign to look out for is when BA crews temporarily stop staying in the so called hot spots. I seem to recall that BA flights to HKG where rerouted via BKK during the SARs outbreak in the early 2000s to accommodate crews.

Make sure it is at least N95 rated, not a plain paper mask. I wouldn't rely necessarily on next day delivery from a certain large supplier if this develops either.

Do you not have an in house travel security and advisory department that can advise you of developments and in many cases company policy can be more restrictive than airlines.

During the SARS crisis, we were scheduled to use a 2-4-1 in First outbound to HKG and back from SIN with departure on a Friday. On the Monday evening I got a call from BA saying the HKG flights were cancelled.

They very kindly routed us LHR to SYD and back in First, and didn't charge extra Avios or fees. I thought this was a very good response from BA

As it happens, we are due to fly back from HKG in First on another 2-4-1 in late March. I'm wondering what to do - a return from SIN rather than HKG would be great but I don't have many hopes.
