BA have cancelled all flights to PKX (Beijing/Peking) and PVG (Shanghai Pu Dong) "until 19 April 2020".

BA frequency to HKG has been reduced with effect from 13 February 2020 - see below for further details. From HKG, Cathay is running a heavily reduced schedule to mainland destinations until the end of March.

If you are due to fly to PKX, PVG and your flight is cancelled then you have refund, re-route and rebook options. BA can rebook on to several other airlines.
If you are due to fly to Hong Kong until 1st April you have refund and rebook options.
If you are transiting into mainland China you are also covered as above.
If you are transiting internationally (e.g. LHR-HKG-SYD) you are not able to move your flights, unless they are cancelled anyway.
The latest ba.com update was on 21 February 2020 at 1510.

What do you think the chances of BA changing the re-routing will be?

I assume with all workers banned from working till the 10th February in Shanghai ts not very safe at all?

If it gets worse, will they still refuse refunds to parts of China which were barely affected then?

Did BA ban its workers? The Shanghai government memo from two days certainly doesn't require that they do so.

guessing the must be ticketed by date is that any ticket bought after that date the person buying it is aware of the outbreak so therefor willing to book knowing the potential risks so why should ba allow them to get a free change when they have booked knowing the risks

YMMV. - I bought my ticket mid November - just totally blown away by the CR team. Spent so long being referred to a ‘supervisor’ with ‘their’ take on life fwiw. Utterly useless and a waste of time. They set policy , publish it and no one at the coal face has a clue ! why doesn’t BA man up , show some maturity/ goodwill / move forward? As I said previously a shambolic company.
good luck T

The risk can change - at the moment I can make a judgment that the virus is no more dangerous to a healthy young person that the flu virus... but the situation may change, and my risk assessment may change. Surely BA will update this as time goes on?

with all respect what bit of this don’t you get? BA don’t give a ????

my wife is flying BA / CX in 10 days from Europe to OZ - it’s a deadly virus we are seriously concerned - don’t rely on BA to “update you”
safe travels T

how can they deny you what is the policy if you bought a ticket to go to China they are allowing refund or change of date for those? Or is it just as part of an onward journey as they aren't allowing transiting passengers a change

I'm guessing they will update advice depending i the situation and if it worsens then will release new info when and if it does

Avios rebooking and availability

I have a flight NCL-LHR-HKG next week, Club World avios booking (through avios.com and its the return portion if that makes a difference). For re-booking under this policy, I know I can't change route, but do Avios seats have to be available as normal for purchase?
I would like to move this a couple of weeks later, but there is now no Avios availability showing until end of February.
Alternatively, I could refund and buy something else, but would this be possible, as I have already flown outbound HKG-LHR on same ticket.
