BA current newsflash here / London Cancellation list for Tuesday here
Rebooking policy for operating flights on Monday and Tuesday here / EC261 main thread here
ba.com/helpme one stop shop on BA.com giving lots of advice and pointers to where to claim expenses.
For EC261, delay/cancellation compensation is not payable for this event but BA is still liable for the Regulation's “Right to care” provisions. Refreshments can be claimed after 2 hours of delay departing (3 hours for flights longer than LHR-Rome, 4 hours for longhaul), £200 guideline for hotels - OK to book your own and charge back. £50 guideline for taxis. Meals, drinks and communication costs are also covered. Keep / photo receipts. If on a Buy on Board aircraft, use Avios to buy items - it will be faster to refund. For missing baggage, it's OK to claim essential items, such as clothing, toiletries. Keep / photo the receipts.

It's glycol and dye, so not particularly nasty in small doses, but it is toxic and so you don't want the stuff everywhere if you can help it.

Why do they not make a "de icing pad" in the taxiway close to the turn onto the runway? Planes could then go through car wash style on their way to the runway. There is always a Q anyway

Ha! We pushed back, too, and are now in another de-icing queue at the end of the runway. Now almost 3 hours late.

Mr. "you are never bored if you have flyertalk to amuse you"
these are very common in the US where most northern airport deice planes in droves without delay on sometimes dozens of days a year. LHR has enough space to deice properly. Yes it costs money. But more importantly, it would go against the British ethos that things that happen relatively frequently don’t acrually occur and therefore don’t need to be planned for. Deicing because it never snows, air conditioning because it’s never hot, guns on cops because there is no violent crime, proper firefighting equipment because there are no high rises, and so on and so forth.

Bugger

Just about to board a U2 flight to GVA now - looks like it is on time at present, but I'm sure we'll have a ground delay also.

GVA was closed for about 25mins yesterday morning - was in the 07:00 LX into GVA which was cancelled then rebooked to a very busy 07:45 which made me miss my flight out of GVA. Not been a great (travel) weekend so far...!

This is exactly what happens in places that have snow and ice for several months of the years such as OSL, which also benefits from lots of space. It would be a huge investment for LHR and some years it would never be used. It’s also difficult to see where a large area could be created. I would imagine the business case just doesn’t stack up for an OSL style facility.

There are designated areas for de-icing near the runways. The person naming them must be a star wars fan. They are shown here http://www.ead.eurocontrol.int/eadba...2017-09-14.pdf

HAL has invested millions in tools and equipment, bought the entire John Deer and Vestergaard catalogue and yet for less than 5 cm of snow LHR is operating one runway down and there are delays of hours for de-icing. Flow rate is 20/60 and the airlines have been asked to make drastic cuts.

I cannot believe that every time a toad burps around the LHR area it all falls flat on its arse. Meanwhile, down at the notoriously tropical Gatwick, there has been only one cancellation due to snow at AMS. I'm no fan of GAL, having dealt with them, but they do something better than Heathrow.

A lot more cancellations have crept in. To get a measure of this, we have gone from I think 4 at the start of the morning (ABZ, AMS, GVA), plus the pre-advertised cancellation of the DOH service, to 43 cancellations now. On a normal day about 5 cancellations isn't unusual, it was over 100 during the IT meltdown.

There are now very long delays across the board at LHR. LGW is more-or-less OK, and LCY, which hasn't resumed services yet, is currently showing OK, but that's unlikely to stay that way. There is now only one more service out of NCL today (1545 scheduled). LAD is the other longhaul cancellation.

Where are the Green Goddesses these days? Aren't they standing by somewhere in a shed waiting to spring into action? Fill them up with glycol and get them spraying!

Now I'm worried about travelling to GIG late at night and being robbed at gunpoint on the main highway (happens about twice a day on average).

Gargh, BA 1345 today is no more. Stuck somewhere with really bad reception so just spend 6 minutes on hold to BA before I got cut off. Have just taken the last J Avios seat on the late MAN flight so hopefully plan B works!
