** AA Domestic First on two cabin will earn business TPs and avios for departures on or after 11 January 2017 - see reference posts for more details **

** Note that the practice of AA Domestic 3-class service flights booking into A for 210 TPs when I was no longer available ceased in September 2017. Discussion here. **

Need a year-end TP run (ex-LON) to make / retain status?
Some tips for searching for the year-end TP run for newcomers, the below is indicative only, but hopefully provides a bit of guidance for relatively straightforward runs ex-LON. The guide to using ITA matrix in post #4 (see here) along with these ideas, might come in handy. Feel free to share results, problems or general questions in the thread as these may not always work and there might be better deals out there...

For overnight trips remember to check BA and Iberia for their flights and hotel option as well, can get hotel for almost no extra cost at times

Need 80 TPs or fewer
Club Europe return somewhere close by is best - DUB, AMS and JER usually cheapest. AMS and JER easier than DUB for an immediate turnaround. The BA.com low fare finder can be very useful.

If you need as few as 45 TPs you might consider booking economy flights and hoping for a proactive online upgrade offer - but they're not guaranteed to materialise (so not one if you have no more time left in your TP collection year). Alternatively, booking a return to one of the 40 tier point destinations with one way in CE and the return in ET (or vice versa if cheaper). Bilbao, Jersey and Amsterdam seems the most cost effective for this.

Need 85-120 TPs
Iberia flights via MAD to regional Spanish airports will get you 120 TPs as the domestic Spanish flights are 20 TPs in business. Under £300 including hotel can be available. Check BIO, GRX, VLC, BCN, SVQ etc. Example here

Need 125-160 TPs
Take a look at the shorthaul plus routes earning 80 TPs each way in business listed in the first post (here) MLA, IST, HEL and RAK are usually available. If time sensitive take a look at BA flight and hotel option to HEL, where you can usually get the last BA flight out on a Saturday, airport hotel and first return Sunday for well under £500.

Alternative options include positioning to JER and flying JER-LGW-XXX (AMS usually works well and avoids switching airports)

Need more than 160 TPs
You'll most likely be heading north then - OSL or VNO via HEL will get you 240 TPs, as will JER-LGW/LHR-HEL e.g. LHR-HEL-OSL for £520. Also the BA fare for LHR-HEL-TLL at ~£235 is still available and would get 200 TPs for a return.

Then you have a choice of LGW to Malta for £271 from a Tuesday to Friday, LGW to FNC for two or three nights from £322, or LCY to REK £332, Thu to Sunday, all available throughout February, all giving 160. Malta would be my preference, it's a nice destination with interesting things to see, and very easy and cheap to get around, hotels should be reasonable in Feb too. That means they'd be gold in the "extension" period so would get some immediate benefits.

That clears the family before the end of the TP year, and leaves you 10 to go, which is pretty easy - quick day return to Madrid from LGW maybe, £65.
Thanks! This is useful, I think I'll go ahead and book AMS in cash then and have a think about where to go to get the remaining points. I'm a little unsure about about Malta/Madeira in Feb with a 7yr old but will have a look around. Thanks for the ideas!

Malta's not a bad place to go. There's a fair bit to do and explore, and Valletta is being done up very nicely with a lot of EU investment. The nice thing is that it's cheap and easy to get around and the hotels are fairly cheap off season (though attractions aren't cheap). But it depends on your child obviously - for what it's worth, I'm going with a 2 year old in December.

If you get a schedule change, I see no reason why AA would deny you routing HEL-LHR-JFK-LAX-PHX or PHX-LAX-JFK-LHR-HEL in order to squeeze in another sector and enjoy the A321 Transcon product instead of the recliners - I have seen this done, but of course not allowed as part of the fare rules so you would have to hope for a schedule change and a cooperative agent. BA would not be as accommodating or flexible.
Thanks are you able to show what you put in the matrix to find it and/or fare restrictions?

I'm to sure which bits of the fare restrictions to quote, how best to format it etc so I will leave the whole thing to someone more experienced - however that which I find most useful is the date restriction:

PERMITTED 01JUL THROUGH 31AUG OR 22NOV THROUGH 29NOV OR
24DEC THROUGH 31DEC OR 24MAR THROUGH 08APR FOR EACH
TRANSATLANTIC SECTOR.
(To clarify: Above refers to "American (AA) ILN8C8S4 BUH to PHX")

If you're crafty, you could fly this on the once-daily MAD-LHR IB A340, or BA 777 (sometimes 787!) in each direction.

You can price it up on Kayak easiest, or, Expedia, maybe BA.com or Iberia.com too.
Finally got my holiday approved (boss on leave and no-one else can do it!) and this great fare to Oman appears to have been pulled. Checking on ITA and Iberia puts at £1290 for the whole of Jan/Feb/Mar. Most annoying.

If anyone knows how to still get it or of anything similar to the ME in early 2018 I'd be very grateful.

Should still be flights available for around £490ish from AMS,BRU,MAD.

You need to book with BA not Iberia. Example search:

https://www.google.co.uk/flights/#se...eo=e;q=flights

If going to Muscat you can also turn it into an open jaw by dropping the last LHR-AMS which gets the price down to about £397:

https://www.google.co.uk/flights/#se...eo=e;q=flights

Let me know if you beat these prices or figure out how to make an OJ work with any of the other destinations!

Fabulous! That is brilliant. I can't seem to make the OJ work for the other destinations but I was keener to go to Muscat than the others. Booked the open jaw to Muscat. Lots of availability from both BRU and AMS at £400. WT+ isn't ideal but perfectly acceptable to get a flight to the Middle East for the price of a typical CE return to Hamburg or Berlin.

You can in fact push this fare to 1,160 TPs for £1,730 or £1.49/TP but slotting in a couple of HEL sectors, see below. Please note, this is not optimised for connections - so you can probably do better with a little bit of searching.

The LATAM dreamliner flight sector (SCL-)MAD-FRA will be cut from 7 to 4 weekly, so unless you good people use it more for your TP runs, I fear it will eventually terminate at MAD every day

Anyone in London looking to add a few TPs to keep status by the end of the year - BA is currently offering LHR to LUX return in CE for as low as £173 return on weekends in December, and LUX to LHR return for as low as £140

Nest these together and you could have 4 x 40 = 160 TPs for £313, sleep in you own bed as LUX is good for back2back, and enjoy the T3 CX lounge experience

This has been a fairy long running CE fare but absolutely worth highlighting. Also having been to Luxembourg for a weekend recently I can recommend it for a short break as well so don’t feel obliged to just do a back to back.

If you do need to do a back to back though it does involve going landside, but the airport is relatively small and efficient that it really isn’t an issue. Also when you exit security the lounge is on the same floor, don’t head down the escalators.
