** AA Domestic First on two cabin will earn business TPs and avios for departures on or after 11 January 2017 - see reference posts for more details **

** Note that the practice of AA Domestic 3-class service flights booking into A for 210 TPs when I was no longer available ceased in September 2017. Discussion here. **

Need a year-end TP run (ex-LON) to make / retain status?
Some tips for searching for the year-end TP run for newcomers, the below is indicative only, but hopefully provides a bit of guidance for relatively straightforward runs ex-LON. The guide to using ITA matrix in post #4 (see here) along with these ideas, might come in handy. Feel free to share results, problems or general questions in the thread as these may not always work and there might be better deals out there...

For overnight trips remember to check BA and Iberia for their flights and hotel option as well, can get hotel for almost no extra cost at times

Need 80 TPs or fewer
Club Europe return somewhere close by is best - DUB, AMS and JER usually cheapest. AMS and JER easier than DUB for an immediate turnaround. The BA.com low fare finder can be very useful.

If you need as few as 45 TPs you might consider booking economy flights and hoping for a proactive online upgrade offer - but they're not guaranteed to materialise (so not one if you have no more time left in your TP collection year). Alternatively, booking a return to one of the 40 tier point destinations with one way in CE and the return in ET (or vice versa if cheaper). Bilbao, Jersey and Amsterdam seems the most cost effective for this.

Need 85-120 TPs
Iberia flights via MAD to regional Spanish airports will get you 120 TPs as the domestic Spanish flights are 20 TPs in business. Under £300 including hotel can be available. Check BIO, GRX, VLC, BCN, SVQ etc. Example here

Need 125-160 TPs
Take a look at the shorthaul plus routes earning 80 TPs each way in business listed in the first post (here) MLA, IST, HEL and RAK are usually available. If time sensitive take a look at BA flight and hotel option to HEL, where you can usually get the last BA flight out on a Saturday, airport hotel and first return Sunday for well under £500.

Alternative options include positioning to JER and flying JER-LGW-XXX (AMS usually works well and avoids switching airports)

Need more than 160 TPs
You'll most likely be heading north then - OSL or VNO via HEL will get you 240 TPs, as will JER-LGW/LHR-HEL e.g. LHR-HEL-OSL for £520. Also the BA fare for LHR-HEL-TLL at ~£235 is still available and would get 200 TPs for a return.

If you're crafty, you could fly this on the once-daily MAD-LHR IB A340, or BA 777 (sometimes 787!) in each direction.

You can price it up on Kayak easiest, or, Expedia, maybe BA.com or Iberia.com too.
Great, just booked this 2 days ago from Geneva for £397, Doh !!

South America tier point runs

I notice that Latin America is not frequently discussed here, except from USA.

Deparring 3 December from london area and needing to be back by 8 December, i need to visit LIM, MEX AND BOG. Any great ideas?

For a start, you're going to want a Saturday night stay to make your TATL price reasonably, so I'd find a way to leave on the 2nd or return on the 10th. Secondly, hitting all those cities in five days is really tight.

If you can push your dates a little bit, there's a not-bad AA fare BCN-BOG at £1,600, or LON-LIM on a mix of carriers for £1,700.

There's also a ~£650 business class fare ex-BOG to SAO/RIO/BUE that permits stopovers en route (eg. LIM, SCL), but I'm not sure that's particularly helpful given your timescale...

I recognise that this doesn't strictly belong in the BA TP thread, but if you can't get a decent TP run then you can currently price up EDI/BHX-BOG on KLM for around £1350 in business (on a 787 - avoid the AF flights as the plane is inferior).

I'll always go OW if I can, but sometimes the better price wins out.

QR Biz SOF to SIN return 560TP for approx GBP £1060 (£1.9/TP)

Long time lurker, first time poster: please treat me gently!
I haven't seen this QR fare mentioned specifically: it's not a 'companion fare'; you can use it for 1 pax.
Quite wide availability in 2018 - Feb, Mar, Apr ...
Same day turns available (or you can stay longer ).
Sample dates: 21 Apr SOF-DOH-SIN, 22 Apr SIN-DOH-SOF, books into R class: 560 TPs for around GBP £1060.
Now for the bad news: SOF-DOH-SOF is on A320 - on the plus side, it's the A350 from DOH to SIN and back.

Welcome to FT BlueEyedBoy that is a good fare. I've done PSA-DOH before now on an A320 and I found it was OK for a day flight down to DOH although I do prefer their B787s out of ARN, OSL, etc.

It is a good fare, there's some availability to other destinations in the region, for example PVG.

A friend is looking to get from the UK to NYC, specifically departing on 1st/2nd Dec and returning on 4/5/6th Dec. He'd like to try and get from zero to Silver in one trip, so happy to take a bit of a de-tour connections wise. The CWLCY A318 would be nice but not essential. Happy to start ex-EU. Any ideas? Best I can find so far is ex-DUB for £1478. Thanks!

Given LON - NYC is 140 TPs each way, to get 300 each way is a bit of a stretch.

However, if you really need 600 TPs in one go you can do:
OSL - HEL - LHR - BOS - JFK return for £2,074 which will get you exactly 600TPs if my sums are correct.

I'm looking to sort out 295 TPs and, ideally, to avoid any overnight stays. It looks like I can to a LHR-HEL-TLL-HEL-LHR (I/Y/Y/I) return to get 200 (£492), and then I can do a MAN-LHR-AMS-LHR-MAN (I/I/I/I) return, again in a day, getting me 160 (£365).

It's not terrible value, and saves me money on positioning, overnight stays etc etc. but it does mean I'm going over the top on what I need. If I could do the MAN-LHR-AMS-LHR-MAN as {Q|O|G}/I/I/{K|L|M|N|S|V} - can anyone help me construct and book that fare, assuming it is cheaper?

Also, I welcome any suggestions on the most cost efficient way of getting 95 (or indeed 295) TPs without an overnight stay, from LHR or UK with easy positioning.

SOF - DOH is an A321 operated route which means no fully flat beds in Business Class.

I did not find them that comfortable to be honest and would not take an A321 operated route in future.

The A320 seats are mainly fully flat and better but there is much less space than on the B787, A350 and even A330 operated routes.

Why not just do your second route twice? 2x160 at £365 each trip?

It might also be possible to nest a HEL->LHR in a LHR->HEL for about £380 in each direction which would require a little less messing around.

Fair point on the first one. I'll have a look into the nested HEL-LHR option. IF you're doing that (which is banned according to fair rules presumably) do you have to not register your BAEC number etc until after the flights?
