BA have LHR-HEL-TLL in J/Y for about £235 return, yielding 200TPs and offering the possibility of a ride on the Finnair A350 or a blue & yellow Airbus (for a €130 surcharge). See also this thread for more details and discussion of the fare.

FAQ

Where to sit on the HEL-TLL-HEL legs?
If the flight is operated by an ATR-72, then at the back because boarding and disembarking is through stairs at the back of the plane. However, for more legroom the first row (which can be row 1 or 2 depending on the ATR) is the best choice. In HEL there will be a bus transfer, in TLL the plane will pull up at the gate and stairs are used to go one level up to the departures and arrivals area (same level).
Seatmaps for Finnair planes can be found here.

Row 1 on the E90 provides the best leg room.

Please note that this flight usually takes between 15 and 22 minutes. During the flight, a crew member walks through the cabin with a basket of chocolates. No drinks are served and the fasten seat belt sign usually remains on for the duration. No chocolates on the ATR72 flights, unfortunately.

Also note that overhead bin space on the ATR-72 is limited and you might be asked to put your luggage under the seat in front of you. They do not offer gate bag check in.

How to get to town?
Information on public transportation has been provided here (courtesy of Valgamaa).

Where to stay in Tallinn?
Information have been provided here.

Where to eat/drink in Tallinn?
Here, here and here

How much time do I need at TLL to go through security?
TLL airport is very small. With fasttrack you can be at the gate within 10 minutes. Boarding for the 6.10am flight is officially 5.30 or so, but it usually starts later than that. AY's ATR usually leaves from gate 5, the E90 left from gate 9. Anyways, it doesn't really matter where it leaves, because the airport is so small.

Do I get lounge access at TLL?
Yes, show your HEL-LHR boarding pass also to get access.
For directions, please use the TLL terminal map.

Do I get lounge access at HEL?
Yes, since your outbound to LHR is in Business Class. The Schengen Lounge for HEL-TLL is located near gates 23/24 (one level up, access with status), the non Schengen lounge between gates 35 and 36. For directions, please use the HEL terminal map.
There are reports of non-status passengers being granted access to the Schengen Lounge at HEL for the TLL bound flight if shown the J boarding pass from LHR to HEL.

TP/avios earnings?
If your ticket is issued by BA, you will earn full TP and avios (+tier bonus)
If your ticket is issued by AY, you will earn full TP and base avios (no tier bonus).
LHR-HEL will earn 80TP each way, HEL-TLL 20 TP each way.
Please use the calculator on BA.com to determine the exact amount of avios earned.

Is it possible to do a back to back (B2B) at TLL?
Yes. You disembark at the same level as departures are. Simply wait in the gate area until the flight is boarding.

When and where can I check in online?
Use the AY PNR to check in online 36h before your flight in the AY App and get a mobile boarding pass.

What time should I get to TLL airport
Slightly earlier than you'd think.

Just moved my ATR72 leg to row 16. Thanks!

Sure. It'll take a few minutes for the photos.

Fast track security is amazingly fast here. They do want laptops, iPads, and cameras out of the bag though. Priority baggage seems to get handled correctly, as I didn't have to wait at all when grabbing my bag.

The lounge is about the size of the Aspire lounge in Zürich. There is coffee, tea, soft drinks and beer in a cooler. There is also a beer tap in the back of the lounge. There is red and white wine (nothing sparkling, but one of the reds is from Tommasi^), and a couple of liquors including the local Vana Tallinn, which is rum based and quite tasty. Proper glasses for everything. Fruit, sandwiches, pastries, soup (at least a pot for it, it's empty right now), and crackers. There look to be a couple of massage chairs, and a sleeping pod here as well.

There is NO service on the ATR. It's only about a 15 minute flight. It takes longer to taxi in HEL than it did for the flying part. Well, at least it seemed that way. There is no door at the front, so you board from the back. I had 1F on the way over, and I moved myself way back on my return trip after getting off the plane.

Update: On the way out I noticed that there are showers in the lounge. The WCs are just outside of the lounge on the left as you face the check-in desk.
The ATRs are serviced via bus in HEL, but you board at the gate at TLL. There didn't seem to be any priority boarding at TLL.

Thanks for the update. I have already nabbed the rear exit row on ghe ATR72. Have previously been one an EJ one and found it a pleasant flight. HBO will be more of an issue as the overheads are fairly small.

Thanks! A few years back they served all pax a small bottle of water. Maybe they have some onboard for those who ask?

Overhead bins get full indeed (what was your load? my flights are always full) and they now enforce that you put bags under the seat in front of you, rather than put it in the cargo hold (valet style at boarding/deboarding, as it was the case earlier).

I just moved myself to 15A on the ATR flight... not sure if it's a good move as I prefer to seat forward to the wing... but it's a short hop so happy to try it

Thank you greg5

In case any you have missed it, here's an interesting trip report on the AY A350 on HEL/LHR, although not in business.

And here's one taken from headforpoints

Do we risk the sauna on the Sunday morning return in HEL?

Heh.... I ended up with an excellent Finnair crew on an AB A321 on the way back to ZRH. They served up my champagne in a business champagne glass. ^^^ However, as I was flying to ZRH, I had to hang out in the Schengen lounge. Fortunately, the salmon and potato soup was excellent.

I don't know about that Sauna, I think someone was commenting over on the AY forum that the Sauna is okay, but the lockers are a bit small.

BTW, the sandwiches in the TLL looked pretty good. Though I tend to avoid sandwiches as they have either butter or mayonnaise, which I hate. I could have asked if they had something without, but I had already had a rather nice breakfast at the Hilton.

BTW, anyone know where I can comment about a great crew via the AY website?

In the interests of science I'll stick with my front seat, and you can feel free to mock me after if I made the wrong choice...

I'm booked on this trip the previous weekend, to make use of the bank holiday to see some of Estonia. I'm struggling to work out what lounges to use - thinking as follows (as a BAEC Silver and travelling in Finnair J (or full-fare Y on the TLL legs)):
  • LHR T3: I'm assuming the new CX lounge should be open by that point, so plan to go there. Although perhaps the new Qantas one might be open too?
  • HEL outbound: we'll be waiting in the Schengen zone for the TLL flight, and looking at the BA Lounge Guide thread, the AY lounge is only available if you're travelling on "AY marketed" flights? Our flights are AY operated, but they're all BA flight numbers - will AY still let us in?
  • TLL: sounds like only one option (with photos upthread), so that's easy!
  • HEL inbound: non-Schengen, there looks to be either the Finnair lounge or the Premium lounge (as well as Almost@Home). I guess Premium is the best option, but again, travelling on a BA flight number, will they let us in?

Only been to HEL once before, and didn't have BAEC Silver then, so could only go to the Almost@Home - hopefully someone can provide some better guidance!
