Need a year-end TP run (ex-LON) to make / retain status?

Some tips for searching for the year-end TP run for newcomers, the below is indicative only, but hopefully provides a bit of guidance for relatively straightforward runs ex-LON. Prospero's guide to using ITA matrix in post 3 (here along with these ideas, might come in handy. Feel free to share results, problems or general questions in the thread as these may not always work and there might be better deals out there...

For overnight trips remember to check BA and Iberia for their flights and hotel option as well, can get hotel for almost no extra cost at times

Need 80 TPs or less
Club Europe return somewhere close by is best - DUB, AMS and JER usually cheapest. AMS and JER easier than DUB for an immediate turnaround. The BA.com low fare finder can be very useful.

If you need as few as 45 TPs you might consider booking economy flights and hoping for a proactive online upgrade offer - but they're not guaranteed to materialise (so not one if you have no more time left in your TP collection year)

Or a slightly more interesting fun run

Need 85-120 TPs
Iberia flights via MAD to regional Spanish airports will get you 120 TPs as the domestic Spanish flights are 20 TPs in business. Under £300 including hotel can be available. Check BIO, GRX, VLC, BCN, SVQ etc. Example here

Need 125-160 TPs
Take a look at the shorthaul plus routes earning 80 TPs each way in business listed in the first post (here) MLA, IST, HEL and RAK are usually available. If time sensitive take a look at BA flight and hotel option to HEL, where you can usually get the last BA flight out on a Saturday, airport hotel and first return Sunday for well under £500.

Alternative options include positioning to JER and flying JER-LGW-XXX (AMS usually works well and avoids switching airports)

Need more than 160 TPs
You'll most likely be heading north then - OSL or VLL via HEL will get you 240 TPs, as will JER-LGW/LHR-HEL e.g. LHR-HEL-OSL for £520

Ex-EU to BKK in late August

I am trying to find a suitable date but getting stuck. Planning a week-long trip to BKK in late August around the bank holiday period. I would like to try QR but if I can. Definitely want to avoid MH.

I am finding QR for £1096 AMS-DOH-BKK-DOH-AMS 27th August outward and 6th September return. But there is a really long layover in DOH on the return. I can leave any day from about 22nd August to 28th August and can return 7 or 8 days later. I have no preference of any EU airport.

Any quick help is very highly appreciated.

Hi guys, novice tier point runner here based in London looking for some advice.

I'm about to drop down to Silver and am looking to significantly speed up the time it will take to get back to Gold.

I'm going to take the first 1-2 weeks of May off (starting any time from the 2nd to the 6th or so) and was hoping to do a super tier point run. 1,400 tier points would be great, but anything over 1,000 is useful as I'm getting 20-30 points each week on shorthaul at the moment anyways. I'm flexible on locations - I love Asia, but the HNL/ SJU options would also be quite attractive. I'd like to spend (ideally quite a bit) less than £2,000. Assuming an ex-EU option will be best as I'm based in London.

Quick look on ITA Matrix, I can see DUB-HNL, via LCY, JFK, PHX for £2135 departing on 3/5. However, this has fairly lengthy connections, including a couple of overnights.

Not able to check much else as matrix is being very slow.

Either that or they have realised that there is a 'sizeable' ex-DUB/HNL market.

Would need to check these more carefully for fare codes, but given that these were the cheapest, suspect this is I fare codes as appropriate.

Edit. No, showing as I, so just a lot more expensive than fares available during the sales.

Hello DanielHolland. I am sure an Ambassador will along shortly to extend an official greeting.

Looking around end of April and into May the prices are not great. If you wait until later in June the same routes are around £1350 compared to £2150 in May. Don't think the recent sale covered your dates in any case. Hopefully somebody might have some suggestions for you but for your dates you may well have to be more flexible with regard to destination unless price is less of an issue.

Not sure on your exact dates so can't check award availability for you, but KUL is currently very cheap in the T class sale that lasts until Tuesday. These W->J upgrades will become a lot more expensive next month.
Ok BA is no QR, but for me the direct flight from London goes a long way to offset that.
Yours for c. £1000 plus 35,000 (I think) Avios, most of which you'll earn back under current rules.

Just a few possible options:

1. Book a simple return anywhere in Europe in economy and hope you get a POUG for one way. If it comes off the you would get 50TPs in total, possibly around £200.

2. Alternatively, book two economy returns, which could be domestic for 2 x 20TP.

3. What about single LGW/JER, then JER/AMS via LGW, and finally AMS/LGW - or other London?

4. Book a return on a SH+ route in economy.

For using ITA Matrix, you could try

Departing From: LON
/ alliance oneworld
Destination: AMS
/alliance oneworld

Click nearby next to AMS and select your airport radius, this should open up a much wider selection. If you want the possible POUG option, you will need to deselect any UK domestic.

Choose calendar view, and select dates, and number of nights from 0. (can be a seven day spread so 0-7 works if you want to do an overnight.)

EDIT: Using these I am seeing various availability to JER for £88 return.

Forgot to mention, another option is to look at the 'low fare finder' on ba.com

Thanks madfish! I could not find some reasonable fares trough normal OTA. Still hoping something will come up.
In the mean while looking the other way to asia. Maybe find a cheap J/C class ticket to asia with at least earning silver/Bronze status...
Looking forward to your replies!
