Need a year-end TP run (ex-LON) to make / retain status?

Some tips for searching for the year-end TP run for newcomers, the below is indicative only, but hopefully provides a bit of guidance for relatively straightforward runs ex-LON. Prospero's guide to using ITA matrix in post 3 (here along with these ideas, might come in handy. Feel free to share results, problems or general questions in the thread as these may not always work and there might be better deals out there...

For overnight trips remember to check BA and Iberia for their flights and hotel option as well, can get hotel for almost no extra cost at times

Need 80 TPs or less
Club Europe return somewhere close by is best - DUB, AMS and JER usually cheapest. AMS and JER easier than DUB for an immediate turnaround. The BA.com low fare finder can be very useful.

If you need as few as 45 TPs you might consider booking economy flights and hoping for a proactive online upgrade offer - but they're not guaranteed to materialise (so not one if you have no more time left in your TP collection year)

Or a slightly more interesting fun run

Need 85-120 TPs
Iberia flights via MAD to regional Spanish airports will get you 120 TPs as the domestic Spanish flights are 20 TPs in business. Under £300 including hotel can be available. Check BIO, GRX, VLC, BCN, SVQ etc. Example here

Need 125-160 TPs
Take a look at the shorthaul plus routes earning 80 TPs each way in business listed in the first post (here) MLA, IST, HEL and RAK are usually available. If time sensitive take a look at BA flight and hotel option to HEL, where you can usually get the last BA flight out on a Saturday, airport hotel and first return Sunday for well under £500.

Alternative options include positioning to JER and flying JER-LGW-XXX (AMS usually works well and avoids switching airports)

Need more than 160 TPs
You'll most likely be heading north then - OSL or VLL via HEL will get you 240 TPs, as will JER-LGW/LHR-HEL e.g. LHR-HEL-OSL for £520

On a (slightly) related note, 26 Nov is Thanksgiving. What is travel like on Thanksgiving - worse than usual queues etc?

I ask as I will be travelling LHR-JFK that day

Thanks Calchas that's what I figured but couldn't remember how to do it

Found the reference to checkmytrip and found them there.

Just out of interest, how busy is it when flying on Thanksgiving Day? Any potential pitfalls.

I flew on and around thanksgiving last year, and it was busy, but don't remember it being oversold?

In fact, I can't remember a flight in the last year or so that wasn't full or nearly full?

There is a QR 5 day sale, for flights until 10 July, with interesting prices at least ex-BRU (DBX from 1K eur) and ex-AMS (Perth from 2.3K eur). Didn't have time to better check them yet, but maybe someone can find something useful.

I'd forgotten that. Hmm.

I think Thanksgiving Day itself—it will be deserted, no? It's like the American version of Christmas. The days before and afterwards will be very busy indeed.

I better check hotel prices...!

I've flown (from DFW) on Thanksgiving day and the flight was utterly rammed. In my case it was full of families heading to India and I spent 10 hours in WT surrounded by screaming babies.

One of my least favourite flights ever.

Have flown on 4th July and was one of only 2 people in J

Am I making a terrible mistake? I'll risk it in F/J.

Although it's a good point that I might have to call in some favours if I'm irrop'd! Well, I am Fortune's fool.

Am I going to have trouble getting a table for dinner somewhere in Phoenix?

Ex-BRU is a good option on QR as it's the Dreamliner.

Oh, really? I have a LHR-DFW-LAS next 4th July and I was just wondering what the load could be that day
And speaking of flying on holidays, anyone has experience on easter sunday? I'll have a BRU-LHR-BOS-LAX that day (heading HNL the day after)

I did it last year on an ex-DUB to LAX. The flight was pretty quiet in J. BA served a tasty Thanksgiving dinner.

I'm doing DUB/LAX/LAS on 4th July as well, I did wonder if it would be quiet, certainly hardly any seats reserved in J anyway.

Please looking for review of planned TP run and your experience

Hello
Looking for review of planned TP run and your experience on ideas etc
First off I am 1000 points short of maintaining my GGL, and I want to spend a few days in Vegas. So looking to combine the two
Normally I had made GGL with just normal work travel, but been “stranded” in London for the last few months and now need do make it up before then end of the month
Start in AMS, via LCY, to JFK return and then a AA in first return (direct) JFK to LAS
So basically, 3 separate bookings
LCY – AMS Return (10 days later) (80TP)
AMS – LCY – JFK Rerun (500TP)
JFK – LAS Return on AA direct in F (420 TP)

Questions are:
I live in CW, near LCY, so can I fly to AMS on Tue, lunchtime, and turnaround as quick as possible and do the start of my JFK run from AMS, but only fly out the next day from LCY on the BA 001 (under 24 hours).
The idea is, I can then sleep at home and do the LCY-AMS run on Tue, with no luggage and then check my luggage on Wed morning? BA.com allows the booking but not sure this is allowed for baggage?
Breaking the BA and AA flight into two, because I want to make sure I get first TP on AA from JFK to LAS. I can’t seem to book this as one trip on BA and get F TP on AA
On the return thinking about doing the London to AMS segment as a LGW to AMS, thus letting me take my bag home and again doing the trip the next morning from LGW to AMS and then return AMS to LCY
If I can’t make the LGW return work, how long do I need in AMS, to get my bag out and recheck the bag?

Tue:
LCY to AMS
AMS to LCY
Wed:
LCY to JFK
Thursday
JFK to LAS (early morning)

Following week Tue
LAS to JFK (early morning)
JFK to LCY (Have to hang out in JFK for 6 hours  )

Wed night or Thursday morning
LGW to AMS
AMS to LCY

Thank you so much for any help
Leslie

The cheapest PER fares exAMS that I could find on the matrix for QR for before 10 July were around £2200. This is around the same price as the exOSL INCEU28 fare for similar dates. For those of us in the UK, I daresay that positioning to AMS is a little bit easier, but TP earning is much better exOSL. Obviously OSL-LHR-SIN-HKG-SYD-PER v.v. is quite the marathon compared to AMS-DOH-PER v.v.

Found this itinerary and was able to price it up on aa.com
1040TP
£2.11/TP

I'm personally looking at flights back home for a holiday for February/March 2016 and found the same routing with the same fare basis (and the same price give or take a few £). A question to those more knowledgeable on the matter - is the INCEU28 fare bookable year-round or is it a sale fare?
