Need a year-end TP run (ex-LON) to make / retain status?

Some tips for searching for the year-end TP run for newcomers, the below is indicative only, but hopefully provides a bit of guidance for relatively straightforward runs ex-LON. Prospero's guide to using ITA matrix in post 3 (here along with these ideas, might come in handy. Feel free to share results, problems or general questions in the thread as these may not always work and there might be better deals out there...

For overnight trips remember to check BA and Iberia for their flights and hotel option as well, can get hotel for almost no extra cost at times

Need 80 TPs or less
Club Europe return somewhere close by is best - DUB, AMS and JER usually cheapest. AMS and JER easier than DUB for an immediate turnaround. The BA.com low fare finder can be very useful.

If you need as few as 45 TPs you might consider booking economy flights and hoping for a proactive online upgrade offer - but they're not guaranteed to materialise (so not one if you have no more time left in your TP collection year)

Or a slightly more interesting fun run

Need 85-120 TPs
Iberia flights via MAD to regional Spanish airports will get you 120 TPs as the domestic Spanish flights are 20 TPs in business. Under £300 including hotel can be available. Check BIO, GRX, VLC, BCN, SVQ etc. Example here

Need 125-160 TPs
Take a look at the shorthaul plus routes earning 80 TPs each way in business listed in the first post (here) MLA, IST, HEL and RAK are usually available. If time sensitive take a look at BA flight and hotel option to HEL, where you can usually get the last BA flight out on a Saturday, airport hotel and first return Sunday for well under £500.

Alternative options include positioning to JER and flying JER-LGW-XXX (AMS usually works well and avoids switching airports)

Need more than 160 TPs
You'll most likely be heading north then - OSL or VLL via HEL will get you 240 TPs, as will JER-LGW/LHR-HEL e.g. LHR-HEL-OSL for £520

There are some attractive fares to SJD that might make decent TP runs. For example, ISALE5 from BRU to SJD.

Checked CUN all in ex- AMS €1557.

from AMS/BRU e.g. MEX/CUN €1527-€1557, book by 31st March. Change fee €120, cancellation before departure €150.

from AMS/BRU e.g ACA/PVR/SJD about €71 higher then MEX/CUN/SJD.

Farebasis ISALE5.

Hi everyone,

I am trying to understand if it's worth it to invest in a longer TP run this membership year in order to get to Gold (I am based in US, flown already 4 BA flights), or stay silver and do a shorter TP run next year to keep the silver.

The value I see in getting Gold now is that I would automatically get Silver the year after regardless of TP and BA qualifying flights I can get at that time. Then during that Silver year I could think about doing another TP run to get back to gold and have another two-years Gold-Silver.

for the curious, the TP run I'm planning is
LAX/MIA/SEA/PHL/LAX with AA/US, all in F
or
LAX/MIA/LAS/PHL/LAX, same airlianes and class.

840 TPs for about $2000 over a weekend.

thoughts?

I read on the fare rules that:
THE FARE COMPONENT MUST NOT BE ON ONE OR MORE OF THE FOLLOWING
BA FLIGHTS 0001 THROUGH 0004.
Doesn't it mean that if you include the babybus, you have a higher price?

It means you cannot include the babybus on this fare.

Therefore if you force the babybus you will have to price under a different fare. Which is probably going to be a higher price.

However, if AA or US or AY or IB have also published this fare, one of them may have forgotten to exclude the babybus in their own rules. In which case you can travel under a codeshare on the same service.

Rooting about on ITA matrix around december, I see the BRU to CUN seeming to want to bounce via US Airways in Philadelphia direct, or AA or BA via LHR and Miami.

I was seeing that, are you trying the days of the week when the CUN-LGW flight doesn't fly (e.g. it seems like Sunday, at least when I was looking)

As an FYI for anyone considering this route, I saw some interesting flights for only a few extra pounds (taxes) going something like CUN-JFK-DUB-LHR-AMS. This seemed to work when you forced a routing via BOS or NYC (I presume with the direct flights to DUB.

Sadly, and someone correct me if I'm wrong, I couldn't get a AMS-CUN via LAX (Despite the fare rules mentioning it), or via Canada (I've always wanted to try out AC business class), again though its mentioned in the rules

Maximum permitted Mileage is for the CUN fare is 6171.
Via LAX it is 7683.

You are exceeding the MPM.

Firstly I wanted to say thanks for all the help received so far. I've managed to book my first TP to HNL over the easter weekend and I'm incredibly excited!

I am however in need of some further help please - a colleague now wants to join me if possible. Clearly his price will be (potentially signficantly) higher than it was during the sale but wanted to make sure I was giving him the best chance of keeping cost down and matching my flights.

My booked intinerary is:

DUB - LHR - 03.04.2015 08:50 (BA0833)
LHR - BOS - 03.04.2015 11:10 (BA0213)
BOS - PHX - 04.04.2015 06:00 (US0665)
PHX - HNL - 04.04.2015 10:45 (US0690)

HNL - PHX - 04.04.2015 22:15 (AA0693)
PHX - BOS - 05.04.2015 08:59 (AA0646)
BOS - LHR - 05.04.2015 19:10 (AA6163)
LHR - DUB - 06.04.2015 09:35 (AA6391)

When I search for flights now I can the same ones other than the LHR - BOS flight, where ITA only offers later options (and less time in Boston)... I think I've found the route for €2,936. I wondered if anyone could try and match the route above, albeit the LHR - DUB legs being in economy would be ok. Try as I might, I haven't worked out how to force the same flights in ITA.

Many thanks in advance.

Mark

I think the issue is there is no J availability on your BA213 as when I plumb the exact flights into ITA it only gives A fares for the LHR-BOS route (you can see the €2929 fare if you uncheck 'only show flights with available seats' in ITA)

Thanks for looking - that makes sense. I think he / we could live with a different LHR-BOS flight timing however I'm now coming against a problem where the AA0646 (PHX-BOS) is only booking into Y class, which is a dealbreaker. Is this just a case of there being no availability in A/P?

Cheers

Mark
