Need a year-end TP run (ex-LON) to make / retain status?

Some tips for searching for the year-end TP run for newcomers, the below is indicative only, but hopefully provides a bit of guidance for relatively straightforward runs ex-LON. Prospero's guide to using ITA matrix in post 3 (here along with these ideas, might come in handy. Feel free to share results, problems or general questions in the thread as these may not always work and there might be better deals out there...

For overnight trips remember to check BA and Iberia for their flights and hotel option as well, can get hotel for almost no extra cost at times

Need 80 TPs or less
Club Europe return somewhere close by is best - DUB, AMS and JER usually cheapest. AMS and JER easier than DUB for an immediate turnaround. The BA.com low fare finder can be very useful.

If you need as few as 45 TPs you might consider booking economy flights and hoping for a proactive online upgrade offer - but they're not guaranteed to materialise (so not one if you have no more time left in your TP collection year)

Or a slightly more interesting fun run

Need 85-120 TPs
Iberia flights via MAD to regional Spanish airports will get you 120 TPs as the domestic Spanish flights are 20 TPs in business. Under £300 including hotel can be available. Check BIO, GRX, VLC, BCN, SVQ etc. Example here

Need 125-160 TPs
Take a look at the shorthaul plus routes earning 80 TPs each way in business listed in the first post (here) MLA, IST, HEL and RAK are usually available. If time sensitive take a look at BA flight and hotel option to HEL, where you can usually get the last BA flight out on a Saturday, airport hotel and first return Sunday for well under £500.

Alternative options include positioning to JER and flying JER-LGW-XXX (AMS usually works well and avoids switching airports)

Need more than 160 TPs
You'll most likely be heading north then - OSL or VLL via HEL will get you 240 TPs, as will JER-LGW/LHR-HEL e.g. LHR-HEL-OSL for £520

BA can also issue IB tickets [and in my experience are happy to do so], if you think their agents are more competent.

3) Then I'll fly AMS-LHR-CPH-LHR-AMS in BA Y (very discounted but mileage earning) will give me 4 BA sectors.

Is that all I need to qualify for Silver? I think I'd be Silver the remainder of the Qualifying year, and then for the next year too (through June 8th, 2017).
Am I correct?
Thanks!
Well thanks for your replies-- I pulled the trigger and got this ticket in J for €1450 all in :
15JUN CPH-DOH-HKG-KUL
03JUL BKK-HKG-DOH-CPH
QR/CX/CX
CX/CX/QR
640 TPs.
I need to find the cheapest RT within Europe on BA that would earn me TPs and qualify for the 4 BA segments. I will have 4 days in AMS or CPH before I go to Asia June 11-15, and I'll also have 4 days ex- CPH July 4-8.
Thoughts?

I would consider an ex-AMS connecting via London onto a UK domestic, including Jersey. This should have you the four qualifying sectors you require. Quick check on ITA matrix shows same day return AMS/JER via LGW on 11/6 for £163. Alternatively dates in July available but slightly more. If you want CE you can also do a Saturday night from £389 on 13/6, or perhaps AMS/DUB.

I wondered if fellow FT'ers could help. I need to do the following route

26/05/15
RDU-SAN (leaving mid-morning although not fixed on that time)

30/05/15
SAN-TPA (avoid a really early morning flight)

I know that there are some >2000mile opportunities but the standard F fare for RDU-SAN-TPA is not great.

We will have hold luggage so cannot take short connections etc. I would welcome any advice as to:

1. Reducing the F RDU-SAN-TPA fare as much as possible (do KUPs still exist?)
2. A relatively simple TP-run to maximise the opportunity (the standard route will give 540TPs in F?

Any help much appreciated.

Thanks again dutch. ^

Checked today, indeed waitlisted in Z-class is not allowed, must be HK (confirmed) in your reservation.

That would be a perfect holiday, with a side trip to IPC from SCL. Cannot wait!!!

Just booked JFK-CLT-BOS-DCA on AA at US$222, each in P on May 5th => 0.83GBP/TP.
The only itinerary at this price compared to destinations BUF, MHT, BTV, IAD, RDU that offers acceptable one-way fares/redemptions back to JFK/LGA. Popped up earlier this evening.

That looks interesting, thanks Dutch! I am still pondering of how much holiday to use up in January, because a SCL, IPC, EZE, HAV would take at least 3 weeks all in all.

The only down-side is that both EZE-HAV and HAV-MAD seem to be operated by angle-flat seats?

More importantly, do you know when the booking deadline for this fare is? Also, do the fare rules allow for the 787 on MAD-SCL under LA - would really like to try it, as I heard some good reviews?!

(Confirmed!) reservations required 90 days before first sector, you might be able delay ticketing for another few days.

For MAD-SCL, IB*LA is possible, if bookable under the IB codeshare. However MAD-SCL on IB metal is on the new IB J anyway (I believe)

SCL-IPC is op by LA 787s too, I assume in longhaul configuration. (Apparently it departs from an international gate.) However 767s on some days.

[Edit: SCL-IPC also gets 789s on some days... no difference in the seat maps between SLC-IPC 787 and SLC-MAD or SLC-EZE. So I would guess that they are all in the same configuration. The 789 has an extra 7 rows of Y but no other changes.]

dutch tried to set up MAD-SCL on IB*LA for me today and the I class had been closed since yesterday (also my JJ flight and all possible alternatives were deleted...)

I have a quick question,

If I were to do say do ARN to NYC and then NYC via LHR to ARN (On AA and BA metal) but skip the LHR to ARN and leave there, would I still get the tier points and avios from doing ARN to NYC and NYC to LHR, or would I forfeit all the TPs and Avios?

You should get the TP for all flights flown, so not for the final leg.

If possible try having at stopover in LHR as this makes it easier to reclaim bags. Might even be possible to make the stopover quite lengthy giving opportunity to take another trip/weekend in ARN later in the year.

Would this fit as a TP run? The cost is ~£1600 so is there a way to get less than £3/TP on this? You would need to be getting 540 TPs to do so.

Trip to Chicago coming up best way to maxmise tier points

Suggestions please.

Starting in Dublin I have come up with the following options leaving on a Saturday from DUB, and returning the following Friday:

Oubound:
DUB PHL 140
PHL CLT 60
CLT ATL 60
ATL CLT 60
CLT ORD 60
Inbound:
ORD PHL 60
PHL DUB 140

Totals 580
Cost around £1600

Or

Outbound:
DUB PHL 140
PHL LAS 210
LAS PHL 210
PHL ORD 60

Inbound:
ORD CLT 60
CLT PHL 60
PHL DUB 140

Totals 880
cost around £2100

any other suggestions, and when do the 'first' US airways flights get downgraded to Business so you only get 40 as opposed to the current 60 TP's

Many thanks,
