    Voucher eligible spend
Pretty much everything counts towards the £10,000 (or £20,000) required to earn a 2-4-1 Companion Voucher, including the following which might be unexpected:
    • Foreign transaction fees

    A few things that don't:
    • Annual membership fee
    • Interest payments
    • Transactions under £1 (although you can earn the single Avios )

The online total to the right of the card summary is pretty up to date, and far more useful for tracking spend than what the statements show.

    Insurance
Both standard and Premium Plus cards include insurance benefits for goods and services purchased on the card. Full details here and here respectively. Summary of Premium Plus benefit are shown here, with standard card offering same cover unless alternate figure is shown in parentheses:
    • Purchase protection: £2,500
    • Refund protection: £300 (£200) per item
    • Flight delay / cancellation / overbooking / missed: £200 (£0)
    • Baggage delay (6+ hours): £750 (£0)
    • Baggage delay (48+ hours): £1,000 (£0), additional to 6 hours benefit
    • Accident: £250,000 (£75,000)
    • Hijack (24+ hours): £1,500
    • Hijack (72+ hours): £3,000, additional to the 24h benefit

hehe ... my £3,162.54 paid 2 days apart wasn't going be gun-running or anything like that! Simple Elder Moment whilst ensuring the card was clear before a vacation ... and wanting to avoid making 'revealing' on-line payments whilst away on a hotel WiFi setup.

I've done this a few times with Amex, when wanting to buy something on the card greater than the assigned limit. I've called them first, they've given me the bank details for a transfer onto the card, the card has gone into credit, and the charge has subsequently gone through fine.

As mentioned in a post above however, it can definitely trigger money laundering red-flags, so is not advisable to do regularly.

Poor show from Amex tonight. Got to Sofitel T5 to find I had lost my BA amex between the National Express ticket office at Gatwick South and the Sofitel. Flying out to NYC in the morning. Called Amex who initially said they would courier an emergency card to my NYC hotel. Then they called back to say they don't do emergency cards any more and they couldn't produce and courier a standard card to me before I leave NYC Monday night

    Amex website says
Doesn’t matter what happened. You’ll get a new Card as quickly as we can manage it. Almost always within 48 hours.

If you lose your Card and need a replacement urgently, we aim to replace it urgently. Our staff have been known to move mountains to organise replacement Cards in a matter of hours.

Amex have recently revamped their online payment systems. When you make a debit card payment online it now shows immediately , prior to that it always took 2-4 days. Means you cannot overpay anymore via their website though perhaps it still works if you make an online payment via your online banking service.

I saw this today, I am curious if this now means we can pay our bills at the last minute.

    Anyone know?

I've been paying online from my bank account on the very last day payment has been due for a while now. Not only have I had no problem, I also receive an almost immediate email confirming my payment which I think is also fairly new.

I don't have one of these cards, but I'm curious. Is the typical limit £1k, and if, how is it possible to pay the taxes when using a 241, which will usually be over that?

    I don't think it's typical. My experience is 8 to 14k.

Yes, I pay online from my bank account and you can send as much or as little as you want so you could still overpay that way.

£1k sound unusually low for Amex. I think I was a student & employed during the holidays when I first got an Amex card and I am sure the limit was at least £3k or so. With a mean UK salary I would think a limit of £5k would be typical.

Definitely not. To be honest I was very surprised to read that someone was issued with an Amex with a credit limit that low. Very odd.

Lowest I've heard of is 4k which was increased to 7k after 90 days.

Can I ask for clarity on the 2-4-1 with the bapp amex please?

If you trigger a 2-4-1 within a few months and redeem immediately for a flight say 10 months away and the cancel the card, does it put your booking in jeopardy?

I'm aware if you trigger it and cancel before using it then it may disappear but unsure whT happens if already redeemed.

Nowadays you can walk into your bank and they will produce a new debit card for you whilst you wait. You should try tweeting Amex, see what they say.

Could anyone tell me which banks will still accept sterling travelers cheques for deposits? I gather HSBC no longer accept them but I also bank with bank of Scotland and nationwide.

My starting limit was £1100 - just opened the card 6 months ago. I just got upped to £1700, so 55% increase. I pay off every month. Hope the increases continue at the same % rate.
