London Heathrow
We have complied with a request from Heathrow Airport to reduce our flying schedule on Monday 28 October as a result of the severe forecast storms.

The airport has instructed all airlines using Heathrow to reduce their schedules in the following manner on Monday:
Between 0600 and 1100 a 20 per cent reduction in the schedule has been applied
Between 1100 and 1600 a 10 per cent reduction in the schedule has been applied
Between 1600 and 2230 a 5 per cent reduction in the schedule has been applied
All of the agreed cancellations are for our European and domestic flights at Heathrow, and these have been published.

All our long-haul flights into and out of London Heathrow are currently planned to operate as normal.

London Gatwick and London City
We currently plan to operate all flights to and from London Gatwick and London City airports as normal.

They are hopeless at this kind of thing so no surprise.

Arr yes the night Sevenoaks became Twooaks. Bad times indeed.

So far the forecast for LHR is just heavy rain showers with gusts upto 40KTS expected in the late evening/night of the 27th. Windows rattling in the or cast thus far, but that is about it so far. More accurate forecasts to follow.

I love a good bit of turbulence every now and then... and as long as the drinks and meal service isn't disrupted I say bring it on!

This morning's model output now shows maximum gusts in the region of 60 MPH for Heathrow and Gatwick tomorrow, with the worst of the winds forecast between midnight and 6 AM. It looks like the worst of the winds will be reserved for areas south and east of London (with gusts to 80 MPH still possible there).

Just wondering the best sites online for reviewing METAR/conditions at LHR?

For my sins, I've to collect my better half who is due in on KQ [Kenya Airways] from NBO due at 0545 on Monday. Am guessing the chances of an on time arrival are low ...

If the Kenya airways flight is due in before 6am, it is very unlikely to have a delay because of the weather due to the light traffic numbers able to land before 6am. If it is late and arrives after 6am, rush hour, it may well be a different story...!

I have an app called AeroWeather on my phone, Jordan D. Gives TAF and METAR and will decode if required. I currently have 8 locations programmed in on the free version. Not sure how many you can do in total but I would guess that's enough for most!

Basically over night rain showers with gusts peaking at 60 KTS between 0600-0800 local on Monday.

Current arrival rate prediction is own from 41 to 35 leading to moderate delays.

Latest from NATS

NOTE: Risk of disruption, Monday 28th October, due to forecast strong winds affecting the Southern half of the UK up to and including Humberside, caused by a significant area of low pressure. UK MO has issued yellow weather warning for wind and rain with sustained SFC winds of 30-40kts and SFC gusts of 50-70kts being forecast. The situation will continue to be monitored and further details published in due course.

Teleconference in a couple of hours will give more detail.

I'd throw chivalry to the wind (no pun intended) and let your better half make their way on their own on this occasion by whichever transport means are available (if any), or stick it out at the airport until conditions are safe. You getting stuck on the way to the airport (a definite risk) would not add to their happiness and comfort (especiallly if they find themselves diverted to, say, AMS).

The Met Office weather warning is still for between 0005 and 2100, promising an update "Sunday morning". Rather unhelpful if they are reasonably certain that the gusts will peak in the early morning

Latest from BA

A severe weather warning has been issued for the UK on Monday 28 October. As it is expected to bring heavy rain and high winds, we anticipate some flights to and from the UK and transport links to UK airports may be affected. We anticipate publishing any changes to our flying schedule for Monday 28 October later on Sunday 27 October. We apologise in advance for the inconvenience caused by the poor weather but the safety of our customers is our top priority.

They just updated it - now from midnight to noon. Still amber, with maximum impact/medium-high likelihood in the matrix.

A rebooking waiver has now been issued...

https://www.ba.com/travel/flightops/...ruption_banner

Basics:

Passengers on flights which are cancelled will be able to rebook or receive a refund (as normal).

Passengers on flights which are listed as still operating can opt to rebook for an alternative flight between 29/10 and 11/11 (and therefore avoid having to try and travel to the airport).

Interestingly, they don't seem to be entertaining people who wish to depart earlier and use any spare capacity (assuming there is some) on today's flights.
