I don't know why they would prevent this routing as it seems perfectly valid to me. Are there perhaps direct FRA-KIX flights available on the day you are looking?

There is a direct FRA-KIX flight which has no availability. anyway burning DC miles on LH metal is bad value even if the flight had seats. But that should not be an issue as I have taken redemptions with stopovers even when there were direct flights available..

For what its worth I had a Europe-BKK-BJS allowed and ticketed earlier this week. Stopover in BKK for a week but charged miles for BJS.

I know you wrote already about this , but I am not shure if this routing is possible or not

FRA - ICN - KHV oneway for Z1 - Z2 Award ?

What can be happen when i skip the last segment, and I have no more miles on my account ? Do they control the visa already in FRA or in ICN ?

jbfield Nov 15, 2010 1:27 pm

They'd certainly still have your credit card details and address to claim monies outstanding, and yes, they will check for a visa in FRA.

Asiana won't check you in at FRA without a Russian visa.

Even if they allow you to redeem your miles on this routing, they will certainly tell you that they will observe if the last segment will be eventually flown or not.

If you do not have any miles left,
they will most likely charge you full fare.

A very smart way of redeeming miles but also possibly counter-productive one, too. So, it is big a no-no.

This is quite strange to me, too.
A friend of mine did ARN-BKK(stopover)-KIX a year ago.
Then again, it was a year ago. they may employ different rules now.

Would you care to back that up? Never heard anything like that before...

A friend of mine heard it from an agent at ICC when he wanted to redeem DC miles on FRA-BKK-KTM oneway.

Where the plane is a train!

Flying on CO into EWR there is a linked Amtrak to Philadelphia 30th St station (ZFV) which is designated as a CO flight (CO9448). You can book the full itinerary on the CO website.

The ICC tell me there is no redemptions released for this, and it does not appear on ANA. It sounds sort of right, but I am curious to know if anybody has done it?

There are a few of these linked trains to nearby places with CO from EWR, to pull in traffic to their hub. Obviously I could take the linked junglejet from EWR-PHL, but I thought the train would be a nice option for a short linked trip - with less chance of disruption or missed connections out and back.

I'm guessing it isn't possible given that amtrak are not star alliance members: plenty of *A carriers have their codes on trains, non-*A-airlines and subsidiary carriers which are not possible to book using other * airline miles.

Perhaps you could use CO miles to book?

antichef Nov 16, 2010 10:19 am

Update:
Rang CO and explained what I was after, the very helpful call handler said that it would be available for a CO redemption, and does show as available on their site, and has varied my reservation to add it so that it now shows on my itinerary. Happy enough with that!

Comment: I could have had the air link from EWR-PHL added at no cost to my redemption as it is allowed as an onward flight within the zone, but this seemed like a nice change (and quicker and safer for weather irrops etc). the flight and the train both take 59mins, but obviously no need for early arrival and security at PHL.

DC knows this trick and will charge you Z1-Z8.

Please don't try to trick the system. It will turn out bad for the rest of us.

In same one way ticket, possible?

First agent said no, but did anyone had luck with something similar?

Its too long around to get to YVR. You can do the opposite.. FRA-YVR-MEX. But not the other way round..
