As of 2/12/14: We've had quite a few "Hey, come use this AWD. It's great" type of posts. When the AWD doesn't give a good discount, but is only posted to try to get renters to use the AWD of someone so the poster can earn free days from their Avis Corporate account. From here out, please put the company/trade group/etc that's associated with the AWD or we'll delete the post to keep it on-topic here.

It might be rocking for you but it does not work for me as Avis site says invalid AWD. They are usually one letter and six digits.

Can I use the J868801 code along with the third day free weekend coupon? The link seems to be for specific AWDs only. Trying to plan a three day rental at SFO.
Thanks.

thank you CoasterGirl for the Jcode. It brought down my 11 day rental from 276 to 235. Still Alamo will get me same car size for 177. The difference is to great to ignore.

so, trying to book a car in FL for the holidays, fairly long rental, 12/20-1/7. I could pickup from PBI, FLL, or MIA.
NOTHING seems to move the prices. I have never seen that. Try to book a car for 12/23-12/28, for five days, 500$, apply a code, 500$, try the ASAP, 500$, try another code, 500$.
same thing, any code, any airport. CRAZY. what does that mean?

Very weird experience with the Citi Travel Code A074800
This is very weird - that the rate showed as the current rate, not the rate at reservation - Before everyone says the rate reverts to full rack rate, it is not - it is still a discounted rate. That is why it is so strange.
We reserved a Corolla (was classified an Intermediate at SJU... what a joke.) for a weekly rental 11/07-13 back on July 30, with base rate at $185 before tax and fee.
The week before our departure, I looked up the rate again. The new rate was at $240 under same discount code. I pulled up our reservation, as expected, it still showed the same $185 rate. I printed a fresh copy of the reservation bearing the date of 11/07 (after midnight) just in case.
At SJU rental counter, the agent ignored our confirmation printout and insisted us to hand her the driver license and credit card. We had some difficulty communicating with the agent as she spoke very little English. So instead of verifying the rate first, we handed her the CC and driver license. When she handed the contract to us to sign, we noticed the base weekly rate shown was $240, the same as the current rate, NOT the rate on our reservation. Trying to explain to her was a frutile exercise. She finally called the pickup location to connect to the Manager. The manager also insisted the computer showed a rate of $240 and claimed they could not modify price.
He said we needed to go over to the pickup location for him to actually look at the reservation printout then determine what to do with it.
We felt this was an unacceptable explanation, especially the reservation was printed freshly again on 11/07 in the early morning hour, still showing the rate of $185 made on July 30. This is the First Time we ever encounter ANY rental car company showing a rate that is way above what is shown on the reservation. On top of that, the $240 is supposedly an already discounted rate - with the regular rate in the $300 range.
We actually have 2 backup reservations - one from Budget, and one from National - both are about the same rate, except for a smaller car - Chevy Cobalt, instead of Corolla. We decided not to go with Budget as it is the same company as Avis and they share the same counter, literally.
The National reservation was made only 2 days ago when it lowered its rate a lot, even with the Triple UA miles offer code. We decided just go with National, its counter was accross from Avis on the other side of the hall. For some reason, National at SJU was unable to locate hubby's Emerald number but did show the correct rate as on our confirmation.
We never sign the Avis contract. However, our credit card has been swiped so now it has a $295 authorization from Avis. With Citi, it probably will take 30 days before it finally drops off.
Lesson learned, ALWAYS ALWAYS verify rate first, before handing out Credit Card to the rental car agent!
This kind of practice of the rental car companies literally encourage double- triple- reservations if they could change rate on existing reservations.
One final note is, whenever we rented cars with Budget or Avis, in US/Canada, we always received a reminder of the rental about 48 hours before the rental. We never receive any reminder from either company on the rentals at SJU.

New to Avis...question abt. AWD in Florida
Hi, i am looking at Avis for a 1 wk rental -lowest possible rate, 12/23-30...
The best I've found is a Florida State AWD (state employee?) - THe Wizard
registration accepted and reserved this and i am a preferred-wizard member.
Anyone with experience using this FLA code and is the Wizard program similar
to National's Emerald Club, ie., can you just go straight past counter check-in
and present your printout of the online reservation? Any ID needed? Thanks
for any advice or otherwise, other suggestions of codes if this one may be
problematic at check-in time: )
Much appreciated
Shep.

I have never used this AWD, but it seems like from this, you have to have a state issued CC to rent:

7. Methods of Payment
To insure that state rates are received, the following methods of payment for vehicle rentals are required under this contract:
1. State issued Diner's Club, Master Card, Visa, American Express credit cards or State of Florida Purchasing P Card
Note: Payment via Purchasing Card for renters other than cardholder will be accepted with prior arrangements made through Avis Representatives listed in Section 19.
2. Avis Central Billing Credit Cards and
Note: To obtain Avis Central Billing Credit Cards contact your Finance and Accounting office or one the Avis Account Representatives listed in Section 19.
3. Avis Company Travel Order (ACTO) provided by Avis Rent-A-Car
Note: To obtain Avis Company Travel Order (ACTO) contact your Finance and Accounting office or one the Avis Account Representatives listed in Section 19.
4. Purchase Order use with Direct Billing (pre-approval required)

Avis will not accept renters debit or check card at beginning of rental but will accept debit or check card to pay for rental when vehicle is returned. See Section 14 for applicable taxes. Prior to entering into credit card agreements, state agencies must obtain approval from the Department of Banking and Finance, Bureau of Auditing.

hmmm.
thanks for that info ghurty,
Looks like i should be considering other options then!
Any particular suggestion on a better alternative lately?
Last year I had no prob. with National but the same CID
this year (Carlson i believe) is way higher than i expected.
At this point though, I'm looking at National again since
the Emerald Experience was great, and at least I've dealt
with em before (haven't ever done anything through Avis).
The Avis rate was going to be around 208 for 7 days.... As of
right now, using National with a new CID and a coupon, i've got
a deal for abt. 238 incl. tax. I'm starting to think that's as good
as im going to find at this point.
However, if anyone cares to share any new Avis AWDs that work
feel free to PM or post! Thanks again,
Mike
