As of 2/12/14: We've had quite a few "Hey, come use this AWD. It's great" type of posts. When the AWD doesn't give a good discount, but is only posted to try to get renters to use the AWD of someone so the poster can earn free days from their Avis Corporate account. From here out, please put the company/trade group/etc that's associated with the AWD or we'll delete the post to keep it on-topic here.

From the platinum website:

Did someone hit your rental car? Not to worry, with the Car Rental Loss and Damage Insurance Plan.

Use Your Card
When you are the primary renter, simply use your eligible Card to reserve and pay for your auto rental.

Say "No Thanks"
Decline the collision damage waiver (CDW) or similar option when you are reserving and picking up your car from a Commercial Car Rental Company.

Enjoy the Ride
The Car Rental Loss and Damage Insurance Plan provides coverage up to $75,000 against theft of or damage to most rental vehicles. Coverage applies for the first 30 days, and is in excess to your other sources of insurance.
I believe you are mistaken on your interpretation. If you read clearly your quote above, it say's coverage is in "excess" to your other sources of insurance". That's the standard credit card insurance. They will only assume any of the leftover liability after you've filed with your own insurance company(s).I'm not interested in filing with my own insurance company first, and than the credit card. The plan I enrolled in with Amex provides PRIMARY coverage. My own auto insurer is never even notified. I'm paying the $19.95 for PRIMARY coverage.

Your absolutely right, and most people are not aware of this. Your rental contract holds you responsible for "loss of revenue" while the smashed up vehicle is out of service being repaired. And the rental company almost always collects on this. I'm not really sure if Amex covers this or not.

Ah, I see. Thanks for the clarification.

up to 33% off your weekend rentals

Following please find an excerpt from a promotion outlined in an Avis Corporate Awards Program statement.

"From now through 2/11/08, get up to 33% off your weekend rentals. Offer valid on car groups intermediate (group C) and above, excluding cools cars (groups S and X)."

Using the below Avis AWD number, I was able to obtain lower rates for intermediate and full size vehicles than for compact vehicles on most weekend rentals.

U497593 = Avis AWD for Gabrielle Inc.

Z001181

I booked a rental using Z001181 and it gave me a very good rate. But I cannot seem to find what company/group/etc. it is affiliated with, and I want to make sure its kosher and that I wont be asked for ID. Anyone know whose code it is? Any recent experience with it?

If I use a code that includes CDW in the rate, but I don't want the CDW because of concern that it would be invalidated after the fact because I was not entitled to use that rate, can I decline the CDW (even though it is included) and use a credit card that covers me? Or if the CDW is included, is it impossible to decline?

The only references to it I can find online are here on Flyertalk and in a Slickdeals thread that cribs from Flyertalk.

A new member posted it here at the beginning of December. I assumed s/he was hawking their own corporate code which probably earned them free rentals based on # on rental days with the code. But that was just a guess.

Perhaps you could PM the member who posted it in this thread and ask them where they got it?

Using Avis UK Website

Tried to post a new thread about this, but I must have done something wrong because it did not show up (sorry, I am new here).

Anyway, my question is I got a good rate for a US rental using the UK Avis website (without any discount codes). When it asked where I live, I said US, and it did not seem to mind. The rate included all fees and taxes as well as LDW. Will I have any problem with this when I get to the counter (since I am from the US, have a US drivers license, etc.)? Will the LDW be valid? (If the UK Avis website gives better rates, why don't more people do this?)

I don't believe you can decline it because it is part of the rate contract for that company. But just use the code and use the card anyway. In the very remote chance that it is invalidated, the ccard can be the backup. I use this exact scenario every week. I use code L093590 which provides CDW, but I also buy premium insurance for $19.95 per rental from AMEX. In my case the rentals are generally for several days or more, so the backup insurance is only a few dollars a day. I have had several small accidents over the years using the same code, and I have never heard a word from Avis.

Anybody know this code?

I had an issue recently with a rental, and the agent helped me out with reduced rates and LDW on the rental. She changed the AWD # to G417900.
Anybody know this code? I've searched and I cannot find it. It gave me lower rates than a code I use all the time. Not substantially lower, but a bit better. I'm just curious.

Just saying thank you to the person who posted the k444404 code. It worked like magic for me a 40% discount on my MUC Audi A6 rental for 4 days including everything only 147.
