As of 2/12/14: We've had quite a few "Hey, come use this AWD. It's great" type of posts. When the AWD doesn't give a good discount, but is only posted to try to get renters to use the AWD of someone so the poster can earn free days from their Avis Corporate account. From here out, please put the company/trade group/etc that's associated with the AWD or we'll delete the post to keep it on-topic here.

I think thats ALL they have in Maui! Be careful, the police know these are rental cars and will pull you out of a pack of cars to give you a ticket for speeding. Whether you are or aren't.

Hertz-transfer.eu has a list of cars that need to be repatriated. FT members in the Hertz forum have said using it gives the regular rate without the usual separate drop fee.
I have driven Avis rental cars in five European countries, Germany, Belgium, The Netherlands, Spain, and Italy. With the exception of Germany, all of my rentals were pick up in one location and drop off in another. There were only TWO cross border rentals, both were between Belgium and The Netherlands, and neither had one-way fees.

The rentals I had in Spain and Italy did not have punitive one-way fees. The highest one way fee that I have ever paid in Europe was 35, which was for Spain, pickup in Sevilla and drop off in Grenada, which are about 3 hours apart. I suspected that both were independently owned single locations, as opposed to the large company which owns many/most of the locations in Spain, but I do not know that for certain. I was Avis Select Preferred (what is now roughly equivalent to AvisFirst) at the time of all of my European rentals, as I had not yet attained Avis Chairman's Club, my present status, and I do not think that status had anything to do with the one-way fees (or lack thereof).

I have had Mustang Convertibles in both Maui and Kauai (both rentals took place in 2008). Avis had a selection of cars in both locations when I picked up my cars, but about half the cars on the lot in Kauai were Mustang Convertibles, and I was given an upgrade in Kauai at no charge, because it had been raining a lot for the last couple of weeks and no one wanted convertibles at that time. I also got a Mustang in Maui, but I don't remember whether I was given the upgrade or whether I requested it. I did not have any contact with the police while I had the Mustang Convertibles in either Kauai or Maui, for whatever it's worth.

I've used it many times with no questions asked. IIRC it's "Citi Corp Leisure Travel". Not sure what that means. But, hey, it works.

That Hertz transfer website is intriguing -- given that I know of no other practical way to rent in one European country and return to another -- but I suspect it would be difficult to use in practice. At least for Americans, who have to arrange their air transport to the continent in advance. Like if I flew into Spain and out of Germany, I'd have to get lucky to find a car in my arrival city that needed to be repatriated. Still, I'll remember this trick just in case I ever need it!

Did you receive a response to this? I would like to use it but don't want to run into problems? I am renting at GMC (Grand Cayman, Cayman Islands).

Last month Avis and Hertz had a glut in the NY area, so you could have gotten this one-way for an incredibly good price. The glut seems to have resolved, because one-way out of the NY area with both companies is back at the $100+/day for an economy car.

I suggest checking all the options- companies, locations, including some nearby neighborhood stores in Long Island, etc.

Awd X133557

I just used AWD X133557 and was able to get an Intermediate SUV Ford Escape or similar for $230 for 1 week compared to $379.99 using another AWD code.

Hope this can help someone else get a great rate like this.
