OK, then a few questions:
1. Have you tried changing websites? When renting in CH I've found that usually it's cheaper on the .ie website, or.co.uk. If pay at counter you can pay in the currency and thus avoid DCC. 2. Do oyu have any corporate discount with your job, which can be used for personal travel? 3. Have you tried BAEC Gold or Silver? 4. If you have status, the LH Senator AWD is also good: E888804. Ditto Flying Blue Plat code F983000 We always opt for pay at the counter because our plan often changes, hence dont want to deal with cancellation / refund on pay at reservation, plus a penalty / fee may be involved. But to our surprise once in FRA, even though the DCC clause was taken out (not shown on the final agreement and the agent made sure to show that to us), the bill was still billed in USD - to the dot of the same amount quoted on the reservation - which was not a DCC amount but regular market rate conversion. Euro was going up against USD between reservation and actual rental - yet our bill being in USD of the original market rate conversation made at the reservation time, actually saved us over $30 - that may be the only good experience coming out from the currency conversion! 2. and 3. Retired so are using the airlines / hotels codes. Hilton when it partnered with Avis, offered the best rates for rentals made in Europe. Unfortunately HH changed to partner with Hertz a few years ago. :( Oddly the old code still works as not being rejected as invalid. Though it gives the same small discount as Visa Signature / BA Silver. The Visa Signature discount is claimed to be 25% but it is not true. Only a tiny one, not even 10%. 4. Not elite on either program, hence it is risky to use the 2 codes. Thanks for the suggestions though, especially on trying other countries sites. Will do that. |

Where do you want to rent? In some cases (e.g. BSL, GVA) it's MUCH cheaper to rent on the French side
|
Just use Mulhouse Aeroport.
Bit of a trip if you are going to be touring in CH, but it will be half the price than in BSL. We park every time in France as it is half the price. |

What locations does one search for "the French side"?
For GVA use Geneva airport - French side or Geneve airport (Avis code GGV) No risk using the frequent flyer Elite code if you're not a member: Avis will generally monitor company codes and ask for proof of employment for those, but are not generally bothered if you use the frequent flyer codes. |

Ended up using the Visa Signature code. Also extend the rental day from 5 to 6, it actually is about 10% cheaper because there is a rate for Min 5 / Max 13, cheaper than using daily rate even up to 5 full days. I will check how much cheaper with the BA Gold or LH Senator / Flying Blue Plat. UPDATE BA all codes are the same, and more expensive than Visa Signature. Flying Blue Plat is the same as Visa Signature. LH Senator is $24 cheaper on the rate, with tax and fee being identical (how could that be? Isn't the tax is % based on the rate?) Net saving is $24 - not worth it when Visa Signature code is a published discount by Avis and the card in Preferred profile is a Visa Signature. For what is worth, Alaska Airlines' code and American Airlines code, give the same discount as Visa Signature. Too bad Zurich does not have substitute like Geneva does, to beat the high rates in Switzerland. |
There is one thing I dont understand -
The market exchange rate between CHF and USD is approx 1 to 1.02. Yet Avis quote in USD is lower than in CHF. i.e. USD is $124.72 while CHF is 126.23 - Shouldn't the rate quoted in USD higher than in CHF? Or being equal? |

Well, Basel is just an hour's drive from Zurich :-) Adds a couple of hours to the initial journey but could be worth considering?
The rental rate is not outrageous just slightly on the high side, it is the surcharge at over $156 that makes ZRH very expensive. I notice the surcharge is the same for all codes tried, while tax is low at $20 so small difference on the rate indeed not making any noticeable difference. |
I am having trouble to book with the AWD K817700 to earn Hyatt points. It shows "Membership Numberentered is invalid. Some Avis partner programs require the entire account number to be entered, including all preceding zeros (0)" even though I have triple checked my WOH membership number. Any ideas? Thanks!

Coupons.
Apologies up front if I'm asking for incorrect information.
I shall be travelling around the US for best part of a couple if months, using Avis where possible..only to take advantage of my Avis Preferred Plus. Can I check back here regularly for any coupon codes, upgrades, free weekends etc.etc. ? Thanks. |
I've been doing a few bookings this year and noticed I get some good deals when booking via Expedia.ca
I travel quite often into Amsterdam for work and this is an example booking I did today. May 15 to May 26 LuxuryMercedes-Benz E Class (GPS) or similar Total cost 506 CAD which equates to 382 USD or $35 a day. Thats with all taxes and fee's have pre-booked my next 4 trips with similar rates. After booking I did an online chat with Avis and they added all the trips to my account at the prices booked on Expedia.ca Checking after directly on Avis the above booking was coming at 1263 cad any Avis codes I tried came at higher rates. |
Anyone had issues with B270898 or C062090 lately? Both price out with great discounts, but searching this thread shows mixed and old results. Thanks!

A555100
Is A555100 safe to use?
|
Planning to try out A555100 to use too, was it safe?
|
Following this about A555100, it's giving me a great discount. Any experience with using? I can't actually see it referenced above - who/what is it the code for? Experience/thoughts very welcome and appreciated.

Last I tried renting in Italy, I used the BA discount code (N744400) gave me a great rate (25€ per day for an Alfa Romeo Stelvio)
That was in March 2020, 2 days before the lockdown got announced in Italy |
Thanks for your reply. Not so good this time however.
There's actually a 50% difference between the two rates (hence my question). |
Any recent use of code E027237? A 24h one-way trip goes from £300 to £80 using this code for me.

Did people ever get into issues using random AWD (won't let you pick up the car? asked to pay price difference)? Even for the same company there might be different AWDs for business/personal trips, and some AWD comes with fuel/insurance (fuel at market rate, CDW included for free). If an accident were to happen, would AWD cause some complications?

I am new to this and would like to rent a car from Chesapeake VA to Dulles Airport and return 38 days later from Alexandria, VA to Chesapeake, VA using Avis car rentals one way . I have come across a code that gives a considerable discount on the one way rental from Alexandria, VA to Chesapeake, VA but not sure who the code is associated with and if I would incur any problems using it. Code is B270898 does anyone on this forum have any information on the code. Thanks in advance as we are traveling overseas and do not want to pay long term rental for our car to be parked at the airport.

Good rates in the USA and Canada (only), CDW included, and perfectly legitimate. Try several EU Avis sites for cheapest results - prices vary. Booking needs to be made via one of the European sites, not the .com or .ca sites. avis.de, avis.ch, avis.fr, avisautonoleggio.it/ tend to be cheapest, as before. Current link: https://www.avis.de/mietwagen-angebo...simon-shopping Expiration date for this AWD is now March 31, 2021, but I`m sure it'll be available past that date as it's been the last seven or so years. |
anyone know what company D103900 is from? Gives a nice discount

Is this AWD (B270898) for Costco Members, or Costco Employees?
The actual COSTCO travel website shows AWD A108326 for AVIS rentals. No mention of B270898 there. Internet searches seem to *think* its tied to COSTCO but I can't find any actual current references if that's still the case. ' B270898 has some pretty hefty savings, including on one-way rentals in markets where I have a hard time getting cheap options. |
I picked up a car at DTW yesterday using B270898. No issues or questions at all, but no interaction with anyone other than the bus driver and the girl at the exit booth either.
|
B270898 is for employees of Hewlett Packard on business travel--not Costco. Keep in mind that just because one person was not asked for ID one time in a particular location doesn't really mean anything. Corporate rates often have heavily discounted rates, and there are numerous posts from folks on these forums who have been challenged for ID and then charged the walk-up rate if they can't produce it. Rates that include CDW are riskier still since any damage claim will trigger additional review.
|
Update.
I successfully used B270898 for my weekly rental from local office August 1-8. My contract lists "Peregrine Meeting Systems", a company which, according to Wikipedia, went through Chapter 11 bankruptcy in 2002-2003, and was acquired by HP in 2005. (The association of Peregrine with this AWD is mentioned somewhere up-thread.) So this is not a Costco AWD. Autoslash's comment that this AWD relates to HP tracks, although why Avis still has this AWD associated with Peregrine in their system, and not HP does not make sense to me. In any case, I felt no fear that I would be asked to present an ID since the company no longer exists, and also had a parallel reservation with another rental nearby rental company, so I would have just rented there if Avis had not honored the rate. |
OMG thanks for the last couple posts, B920508, C062090 and B270898 work wonders!!!!!!!!! now hertz IBM cdp is no longer working, AVIS saving is much better :D

Anyone successfully rented using C062090 without Bombardier I.D at Toronto Pearson Airport location?

Just used the code today as president club status, walk in drive out nothing checked.

When you said President Club, you mean Preferred Plus? I am not entirely familiar with Avis system mainly because LGA doesn't have Select & Go type of car. |
