I'm in the same boat. I signed up for the club LifeMiles $12/mo tier in April. The club LifeMiles landing page has been changed to LifeMiles+. My profile still shows my $12/mo club LifeMiles subscription with 2 months completed. I think I'll call them and figure out what's the deal.

$20/mo is excellent deal for amex cardholders for what's its worth.

I just called LifeMiles. The answer I was given was that we will still need to complete the 6 months of subscription for Club LifeMiles as required. There will be no rollover into the new plan. As far as subscribing for both LifeMiles+ and Club LifeMiles concurrently, it may be possible I was told.

Looks like we are stuck. I mean, I'm not upset. I bought the lowest CLM tier specifically because I had a bunch of upcoming bookings I needed to make and I liked the idea of making my 98,000 Capital One Venture X miles (90,000 sign-up bonus + 8,000 miles on $4,000 spend to get the SUB) go 10% further (so far I've transferred 48,500 miles. Without CLM that amount would have been an additional 9500 miles. All my flights on Avianca were similarly priced to other airlines (I have no brand loyalty), i.e. I wouldn't have purchased a ticket from AA or something for cheaper, meaning the $/mile value I got is what it is (as opposed to saying I got $0.02/mile from Avianca but AA or Delta at the time was $100 cheaper than Avianca), all of which has been great. The total savings value I've gotten from Club LifeMiles is $260.95 (If you want to do this calculation as well, find the original miles cost of the flight and calculate the $/mile based on the cost of the ticket less taxes that you paid. Then calculate the number of miles you saved because of Club LifeMiles. Then multiply the miles saved by the original $/mile value. You wouldn't want to use the $/mile value of the Club LifeMiles discounted price because you care about how much you saved versus no Club LifeMiles). On top of this they are giving me 6x600 miles, or 3600 miles. I'm averaging like $0.027/mile on these bookings (pre Club LifeMiles discount), so that 3600 miles is worth like $90+!

Edit: I spoke with another person at LifeMiles. He said that you would not get dual benefits, you would get the most restrictive benefits (that being Club LifeMiles). He recommended waiting until the 6 months of Club LifeMiles expires so that it can be canceled so as to receive the LifeMiles+ benefits. Of course, the waitlist bonus of 5000/10000 miles expires June 18. Strangely, though, you can go through the checkout process for LifeMiles+ (without the credit card, just buying the subscription outright) and it is behaving as expected, asking me to pay and telling me I have to subscribe for 6 months.

Edit #2: Interesting quirk in the terms & conditions for Club LifeMiles: "In case lifemiles is not able to charge the monthly amount to the member’s card, it will send one email to the member and will try to charge the amount three times every 7 days and the member will have 21 days to make the payment. In case it is not possible to charge the card, lifemiles will cancel the subscription and it will not be possible to reactivate it."

Edit #3: I talked to LifeMiles chat support via Twitter DM. This person said Club LifeMiles subscribers who get LifeMiles+ would get blended rewards since I'd be subscribed to both, namely any benefit that overlaps would be provided just once - meaning you aren't getting double 10% ticket discount since both programs offer it, you'd just get 10%. You aren't getting 2x miles twice, just once. The rep indicated we would get 1100 miles (600 Club LifeMiles Personal + 500 LifeMiles+ Lite) since we'd be subscribed to both programs. I am trying to figure out if the Free Cancellation/Changes benefit with the Basic plan would apply to existing tickets redeemed prior to subscribing. I'll report back.

No go on lifemiles+ basic cancellation

I had a ticket purchased before May 20th. Two separate agents told me to pound sand and that I would have to pay the $200/person cancellation fee. When I quoted the terms and conditions from the website: "To be eligible for this benefit, you must be subscribed to one of the Lifemiles + plans at the time of the cancellation or change. Members with a Lite plan are not eligible." they said the only thing I can do is send a claim into the Lifemiles help center. Any other data points?

This is what the agent via Twitter dm told me:

"All lifemiles+ members except those subscribed to the lite plan will enjoy refunds and changes without any value to be paid. This for avianca routes and with airline partners, this benefit applies for tickets issued before and after May 20, 2024."

So as long as you are applied to the basic plan, not the lite plan, you can change your tickets.

mlqsko Jun 2, 2024 11:22 pm

Why would they say “before/after May 20th”? If policy is valid before AND after a certain date?

If you go to the T&C at the bottom of the page:
"To enjoy the benefit of no additional charges for changes and cancellations for redemptions made through lifemiles.com, the member must have an active lifemiles+ subscription and be up to date with the payments of any plan. Not applicable for redemptions made before the lifemiles+ subscription date."

So no, only redemption after subscription can be cancelled without fee.

I guess this is a hard lesson to not trust the blogs... I wonder if these terms and conditions were up on launch. None of the blogs caught this and I only just saw it right before I came to see if someone had responded to my post... and then saw your comment highlighting what I just saw. Regardless... kind of crappy to have a FAQ and then slightly contradict it/add to it in the small print.

Has anyone seen a greater than 10% discount on Avianca flights with the new lifemiles+ subscription? I've been in Club LifeMiles, but the lifemiles+ plans say up to 25%...
If I go into my account I can still select and change plans with the old Club LifeMiles subscriptions (I was past 6 months). I increased it one tier, we'll see if it works later this month.
And does anyone know about the reduced mileage promotions it says are offered?

Never. I have booked domestic and international to and from Colombia to the US. It is always 10%. They say UP TO 25%, but I've never seen more than 10%. It isn't exactly 10%, it'll be like 10.0%-10.05% depending on how the rounding works out for the 10%.

I have to assume the greater-than-10% is for exotic routes that aren't connected to Colombia.

My recent flight redemptions all with routes to/from Colombia: 10.03%, 10.02%, 10.01%.

-----------

BTW, I tested out the note I posted above about changing the payment method for Club LifeMiles. And it is working. So far two e-mails about failed payment after removing the credit card. I got an email that says this:
"We had an issue with the payment of your Plan Individual. Please verify your account information and if necessary, provide a new credit card. Remember that you have 21 days to confirm your payment method, in case we fail to complete this process, your subscription will be automatically cancelled. If you need more information, contact our Call Center - option 3 or Choose your preference channel in www.lifemiles.com/contact."

I'm debating as to whether I should add a card or not and let it cancel since I signed up for the Elite credit card which comes with the LifeMiles+ Lite subscription. If I let it cancel will I get some sort of long term black eye on my account for being a bad customer who "violated" a contract?

Thanks for posting the information. So it seems like it might be possible to subscribe to both, which is what i'm hoping to do. I don't want to let go of my CLM subscription as it provides purchasing lifemiles at a much lower value. And if I can get the other benefits of 10% back and free cancellation through lifemiles+ (specially with the credit card), i would be happy to keep both alive.

So did you already get the credit card and are already subscribed to lifemiles+ ? Does your account show both the subscriptions? I actually want to have both and I want to continue to keep the CLM subscription.

So the 10% is not an automatic reduction during the booking process?
