You do not need a Visa on Arrival if you are just in transit and not leaving the terminal.

Visa On Arrival in Indonesia for Americans is now $35 USD for 30 days. The price went up July 1, 2014.

You can get an extension for another 30 days no problem, it costs another $35.00 USD.

Does the APEC card get around the need (or at least the cost) for a VoA for Americans?

The US APEC card is a gutless wonder. I don't think it will get you anywhere, or anything.

Read the current APEC thread for more details.

Indonesia visa question

I am a Canadian citizen and will be in Indonesia for 36 days (Nov-Dec 2014). I plan to pre-purchase my Visa in Toronto, sometime in October. It's a document that will be stamped on a passport page; I believe it is required for stays that extend beyond 30 days.

Upon arrival in DPS, am I correct in assuming that I can proceed directly to Immigration and by-pass Visa on Arrival desk?

Yikes, I've heard so many nightmares about lineups upon arrival in DPS!

Correct, if you already have a visa then you don't need VOA. My last 3 arrivals at DPS took less than 5 min from buying VOA to arriving at baggage claim, fwiw -- the nightmare lines are when the SIN LCC flights arrive en-masse. The new airport at DPS has cut lines quite a bit. Generally a lot faster than YYZ or LAX immigration

Since Indonesia is part of Asia, we'll relocate this thread.

Visa for Indonesia?

The US travel website says US passport holders can get a visa upon arrival in Indonesia. Is there any sense or benefits to getting a visa in the US prior to going to Indonesia? Is there any reason/chance one would be denied a visa upon entry if simply visiting Bali for a week? Do I need confirmations of lodging and or departure flight information on arrival?

You won't have any issues getting visa upon arrival, everyone with US passports uses this....just make sure you have $35 crisp bills per visa

That $35 might be hard as I never carry cash on me... God forbid if I forget, are there ATMs pre-immigration?

Get some cash now and put it in an envelope with your travel docs. Then you won't forget.

If you live/work by an Indonesian Embassy sure why not? It will save you about 10-15 minutes while you watch everyone rush off the plane and race to the VOA booths. I've done both, however doing it with the Embassy be prepared to share a lot of personal information, i.e. bank statements, letter from employer, of course itinerary.

Visa on arrival it is! I just hope I remember the $35. Or don't lose it / spend it by accident in China or Singapore before hand by accident. Thanks for all the info!

So if you hypothetically forgot to bring the money, you're SOL?
