They did enough. Kept a reasonable tight defence and the goal was a bonus.

Can't see them doing much in the World Cup finals no matter who manages them to be honest. The pool of players are very ordinary bar two or three.

Not exactly... :td: I need to think about a longer and more detailed post which I will write up later today.... all things surrounding the Argentine National Team are very very sad and shameful at this point.

Maradona's "blow-me" scandal

While there is a lot to discuss regarding the actual sportive performance (or better said lack thereof) from the Argentine National Team, all of that side of the issue is eclipsed by the disgraceful and completely shameful ‘show’ that Ladrball Diego put on after the match… which was repeated and repeated over and over again in front of every camera that this idiot had in front of him – including during the Official Press Conference.

Telling members of the Argentine Press to suck his dick, (yes, this is not a typo but a true and factual quote)... not once but various times and using various expressions to the same effect… plus then directing his vile attack against one specific reporter who has been critical of his performance – announcing directly to him that he had his dick well inside him….. all in all, a catastrophic scandal that is an utter and complete DISGRACE to himself (this is the least of my worries) but more importantly to the Institution and the Jersey that he most unfortunately represents.

It pains me to say that I don’t think that either the Argentine Football Association or any other official body will take cards into this situation… simply because DM is just too good for business…. as sorry as it is, this idiot is still a money printing machine. I hope I’m wrong and that maybe someone high-up at FIFA decides that somebody has to put a halt to this poor sick b@stard.

I could go on and on about all that is soooo wrong about this guy… I’m ashamed that he is allowed to wear the national jersey… he defecated in the same jersey when he cheated during the Mexico 86 world cup… again doing the same during the US World Cup when he was caught for substance abuse… and now this, as Head Coach…. Absolutely unbelievable.

How long would a Head Coach at any US or European Elite Sports Team last if he would have done 5% of all the nonsense that Maradona has gotten away with…..???

It seems that FIFA has opened an investigation into this scandal... lets hope this fellow gets suspended and fined (at the very least)...

Well, they keep replaying this on the ´Right side of the Andes´(when flying southbound). Over here, they are quite happy and civil (crazy, but civil) with their accomplishments.

Latest news reports say that FIFA is looking into a 5 game suspension.... this would mean that he would miss out on all the first round matches at the WCup.... lets see if they finally go through with this though.

Gaucho, your analysis of the entire Maradona reign has been spot on.
I am amazed to find an Argentinian who can see Maradona for a what he really is. He was the greatest the player the game has ever seen. 86 was the ultimate performance by any footballer in history.

He could just about manage a Premier league team in Scotland - that is about the level of his coaching talent. He certainly has massive chips on both shoulders which would make him feel at home should he, in a moment of insanity ( even by his standards!) decide to coach north of the border.

I would be surprised if Fifa decide to risk leaving Maradona out of the early stages of 2010. Given that there may some unwanted publicity off the field in South Africa, his behaviour may actually turn out to be a welcome distraction.

I am beginning to find the entire soap opera hugely entertaining. I do hope it continues through SA 2010 where oddly enough I will be attending Paraguay's matches!

There has been no update from FIFA on the blowme-gate investigation... perhaps the Corleone brothers Joseph & Julio have decided to sweep this under the rug....?!??

What a surprise........Call me a cynic but if it had been a northern European coach the outcome would have been a lot different. ;)

I agree that he gets away with a lot of things, but its because of $$$$, not because of where he is from. Being Argentine is actually a handicap..... else look at what the ATP has done...
