So... La Seleccion actually got a favourable draw... given the fact that a matchup against Brazil is only possible in the finals, I say that Argentina is actually a good bet to make with your local bookie.... not that I think they stand a chance, but its a not a bad wager...

Think my money will be going on Brazil or Spain and nowhere near Argentina. :D

Safe bets dont make interesting $$$, unless you are willing to put a nice amount of $$$ at risk. Leaving proper mathematics aside, in my book sports betting is like hitting a home run with options... hence my view that Argentina is not a bad bet.

The bookies are rarely wrong. ;)

I'll take your money and I'll give you double the best odds you can currently get on Argentina.

Latest odds here. Argentina are very poor value indeed.

Wow... you are right Hiddy, I thought the odds would look different. Looking at the numbers, Im starting to like Germany at 14 to 1.......

Brasil at 11-2 looks fantastic value I have to say.

That's between me and my UK bookmaker. ;)

Is it possible to bet on football here?

The best bet on Spain would be whether they even make the quarterfinals. I'd like to see the odds of them not making the final 8 because that would be a great bet to take given their history of underwhelming performances in big tournaments (the last Euro aside)

Just got back from Argentina and more than a few days in the Argentinian altiplano. If I were Maradona, I'd condition my team by making them spend a month or two training in some place like San Antonio de los Cobres. At 12,300' ASL, they'll be supercharged buy the time they go to South Africa (at least for the first few games).

BTW, even a short brisk-paced walk of 20m starts to hurt your lungs at that altitude, not to mention climbing up to the bridge deck of the Viaducto La Polvorilla at 4,300 m ASL.

Gaucho100K Dec 9, 2009 6:38 pm

Many sports doctors say that the altitude advantage can come back to bite you.... it may be good for one single game but over a longer tournament...???

Gaucho100K May 15, 2010 7:56 am

OK... so is anybody here putting any $$$ on El Gordo's team winning this thing in South Africa...???
