Considering how badly La Seleccion is performing.... and the fact that the last 5 games that Paraguay played Argentina at home they have never lost.... I would be willing to sign a draw as an amazing result. Argentina needs all the points it can get at this point...

Yeh its true... having lost 3-1 to Brazil, Argentina have definitely gotta get there act together! Personally, I'm now more interested in the league games, especially since the football dates have been released - so much for "postponing" the season! ;)

Paraguay 1 Argentina 0 ........Has he resigned yet?

:D......Ready for a fall then.

Well, as much as I believe that Humpty deserves the Axe.... I highly doubt it will happen. Argentine Soccer is run by one man, a Don Corleone of sorts that decided that he could make $$$ with giving the helm to Humpty... so I cant really see a realistic chance of him getting booted.

Anyway you look at it, this outcome should not surprise anybody with a minimal amount of common sense. Its all quite simple.... what organization hires as a manager a person that has been a friggen' mess in his personal life, with his finances, his health, and lacks even the basic experience for the position...?

Humpty has had three very short experiences at the other clubs where he was made manager, and at all three places he failed miserably. The problem is that he is always surrounded by a flock of read-end kissers that only smell $$$ when there is $$$ to be made. The only good thing that Humpty is good at is creating attention, and that means $$$$... and that is all fine & dandy but that is light years from meaning that he is able to be a good Head Coach.

The bottom line to all this is that even if HD somehow manages to qualify for South Africa, it is clear that there is no team to speak of... there is no strategy, no football identity... and that even if La Seleccion books a ticket to the World Cup there is basically no chance that they will be able to survive much beyond the first stage of the second rounds.

All I can hope for is for South Africa to come and go quickly, and then pray for HD to have perhaps one small pinch of decency and have him go away - hopefully taking Don Corleone Grondona with him to someplace where they will be promptly and forever forgotten.

Argentina might not qualify for the WC? What? They trail Ecuador by a point with two games left? Oh my, what a spot.

Its really no secret..... if you do things wrong then the results cant be good. Hire a loser like Maradona and what sort of a result can one expect...????????

I wouldn't call Maradona "a looser" being the best footbal player of all times. Even if he's private life was a disaster.
That said, don't you think that Crespo is the striker that Argentina is needing?
Newspapers are saying that Heinze, Zanetti, Maxi Rodriguez, Lisandro Lopez, Gago and Diego Milito are going to be out of the next qualifying matches.

I saw live ARG-PAR on last Wednesday. Not only did Argentina lack attacking posture, the defence were in absolute shambles. Never have I seen Argentina play that badly. Their form was worse than USA team (maybe just on par)!

Crespo is a fine player but he in the last stages of his long career.... Im not sure he is the solution. Bring in Gonzalo Higuain before you call in Crespo me thinks.

I hope the press reports about Henize, Milito, Zanetti and the rest of the guys you mention being booted are true... they are all a bunch of slackers.

Maradona may have been an amazing player on the field, but I dont buy the concept of being an amazing player and then getting away with all the BS that Maradona has done in other walks of life. In addition, being a good, or even amazing, or even the best ever player does not automatically give you credentials to be a good head coach. Why do the Maradonian worshippers fail to understand this...??? A coach needs to be a role-model, needs to command respect... needs to have experience.... where did Maradona coach and gain his credentials...???

Maradona as a Head Coach is a loser.... his dismal track-record as a Coach is solid proof to this. I could not care less how good a player he was... La Seleccion Nacional is too important to have some 4th rate amateur coach experiment with it. Maradona got the job because Don Corlone Grondona wanted someone he could control.... and its clear that Dieguito is wearing shoes that are waay too big for him, hence he will have to either dance along to the Grondona tune or he will be out the door..... read the local press to see what is now going on and what Bilardo is doing... for starters, it looks like the next home match for Argentina will again be at River Plate Stadium.

I'll go along with what Gaucho100K says. ^

messifan Sep 15, 2009 3:17 pm

Shouldnt we be supporting them in these tricky times?! Personally I'm quite excited about the league now that the fixtures have been released...! @:-)
