Parts of Argentina especially the south and west are very similar to Scotland.

Have been here for 2 full days and it is wonderful.

Staying at the Plaza Marriott and it is wonderful. Isabella at the conceirge is wonderful. She has been extremely helpful and very pleasant with us.
We have taken in a couple of main things. Did a 3 hour city tour recommended by the hotel that was excellent. Sandra the tour guide was great and very nice.
Took in a tango show at Cafe de los Angelitos and it was incredible. The food was just ok, but the performance was great. The dancers were incredible and was simply amazing how they move.
Did the Flee Market in San Telmo. It was amazing how the long the market went on. How long is that total market? 1 mile, 5 miles? It was very neat and a nice experience. Ate some good pizza at a corner restaurant.
Ate dinner at Los Lilas. It was expensive and touristy, but was very good food. Lots of pre dinner breads and other things that were good. For US dollars relatively in line with a good steak place back home.

Tomorrow thinking of a tango lesson and going to the Conversation cafe or something like that. Saw it on our tour and looked interesting. I am sure another touristy thing, but will still probably head there. May also tour the Opera house. A shame it is not open for shows.

Thinking about heading via ferry to Uraguay possibly. Any thoughts or comments on that and what to do there for a day? I hear the ferry is 3 hours and the fast boat obviously less. Have not looked into it too much.

Las Lilas.... (sigh). Isabella is surely a great concierge, but the truth is that Las Lilas is very good at passing $$$ to concierge desks for every reservation they come up this. While this is a practice that is international (its not a EZE thing), Im always amazed at how the Marriott Concierge does not push the Grill they have at their own hotel, which in my view is better to Las Lilas. Its also a more authentic high end EZE Meat option.... its not a wannabe Del Friscos Double Eagle Steakhouse experience, which is how I like to describe what they do over at Las Lilas.

Actually it was not the conceirge that recommended it. It was something in our seeing eye witness guide. She told us it was very touristy and expensive, but we (Americano's :p) wanted to give it a try. It was good, overpriced, but it was still fun.

We ate at Don Julio's up north of where we stayed and it was amazing and a great place. We talked around the outlet shopping area. Very nice area. Kind of sparse between shops, but still a very fun area.

Heading to tango lessons at Confiteria Ideal. We will see how bad I do. This is all my wife's doing :D

Then we head out tomorrow to the Falls.

Our short 5 day visit was incredible. Saw a lot of fun areas and the people were very friendly. Other than the one bad taxi experience it was overall awesome. We wish the Opera was open for a show, that would have been one thing we would have loved to do. Oh well next time!

Flight and Hotel confirmed; time to plan the fun stuff ...
 

Arriving in BsAs on AC from YYZ (via SCL) on May 9th, departing on the 18th. Will be staying at the Moreno Hotel in San Telmo throughout our stay, except for the night of the 11th. Will probably stay in Colonia or Montevideo that evening.

Have started to read the pages and pages of insightful tips on restaurants, attractions, wines, etc. in this thread. Will probably have a few questions prior to departing. Thanks in advance for your assistance.

Anyone know if the reciprocity fee is due with a long connection in EZE? The itin is SYD-EZE-LIM-EZE-SYD and we have 7-9 hrs in EZE waiting for our connection to SYD and LIM respectively. I've heard the lounges aren't very nice, but we'd rather not go all the way into town for just a few hours. So, if we're staying at the airport, are we forced to enter the country or can we just hang out in a sterile area, without having to pay the reciprocity fee?

But if we have to enter the country anyway, is there a decent hotel next to the airport?

The fee is payable at EZE... but I honestly dont know if you can avoid it by staying in the Sterline Area. I would assume so... but since EZE is so special with its operations, I cannot say for sure what would be your case if you had to transfer out of the area you arrive in to catch your connection. Perhaps others can comment..??

I've never transited through EZE, but I've passed by two waiting areas for transiting passengers many times. There are at least two, 1 in the newer terminal and another in the old building, both are hideous. Terrible seats, no refreshments, no restaurant or kiosk access. 8 or 9 hours would be miserable. You should talk to your airline and/or travel agent to find out what options they are aware of.

I agree... with a transit time of 7 hours, there is ample time to go into town and enjoy a good meal..... of course, you would have to pay the reciprocity fee.

I read and searched through much of this thread and did not see an answer so...

We will be arriving EZE at 8AM on a Saturday and will be going straight to B Buquebus for a ferry to Colonia. Is the 12:30PM boat pushing it or should that be OK?

As long as your flight is not too late you should have no problem. Allow an hour or so to clear immigration, customs and change some currency. If you don't have an arrangement for the ride downtown head straight to the Manuel Tienda Leon booth; it should be well under an hour for the trip to Buquebus.

I missed this awhile back - but generally when you transit, you are just dumped right back in the departures area after transit security. The special waiting areas must be for certain passengers that they need to keep an eye on and aren't supposed to be in 'general circulation' for whatever reason.

I was wondering what Airlines ppl use most to fly in/out of EZE? How would you rate your eperience and what class do you usually fly.

Also if there are many ppl like me, who need to use AA nonstop, have you ever been able to get the off-peak SAAver awards? what was your best cpm?

I've been flying AA to and from EZE for 9 years, I've made around 50 round trips. I always buy coach and try to upgrade with VIPs or miles, my upgrade percentage is 80-90%. I prefer the 777s, they have 3 cabins and the business class seats are pretty good. AA started using the 2 class 767s recently, they are ok but not quite as comfortable. The food is the same in the 767s and 777s, its ok in business, edible in coach. If you like to drink they have 20 year old port in business, its yummy:) They fly triple 7s between JFK and EZE, I'd recommend it if you can get the cabin you want when you want to fly. Your second-best alternative would be to fly to MIA, then on to EZE.

I've never used awards for flying between the US and EZE, periodically I check availability but they are never available for when I need to fly. They tend to have some SAAver seats in business on weekdays, never on Mon, Fri, Sat, or Sun. The worst season for award flights to EZE is December - February, thats when many Argentinians go on vacation. The absolute worst time of the year is around Christmas.
