Thanks! What about tipping at restaurants? Is it like many European countries where a "service charge" is added and patrons are not really expect to tip extra, or merely leave some loose change if the service is very good?

(Sorry, first visit to South America.)

You'll pay a "cover" charge in many restaurants, which isn't a tip. Figure about 10%. In the divey places, sometimes you just leave the spare change. Some places will tell you in broken English that there's no tip included - I think they have FOA* disease when they hear English.

*Fear of Australians (who do not customarily tip).

I have dined in a few restaurants on my recent trip to BA and paid with my credit card. Upon getting a slip to sign, most of the time there was not even a space to add a tip. How do you do it then if you have no cash on you?

Thanks. In other words, no additional tipping is expected for other than loose change.

Always carry some cash. What if you need to take a taxi somewhere?

The 10% is on top of the entire bill. In cash. Very few places can accept CC tips.

Thanks for the clarification. So the norm is generally 10% of the bill. If paying by credit card, give the tip separately in cash.

Don't the taxis generally take credit cards?

NO !!!!!!!

Less than 1% of Taxis in Buenos Aires will take credit cards, so forget about this as a payment option.

You can also try by asking to include the tip in the bill before handing in the credit card

Mozos will be very unhappy if you include a tip on a credit card. They will never see the money.

That is what I did at one of the restaurant. It was suggested by the waiter once I ask him about tip.

LOL! Yes, anyone who have travelled to Australia would know that it is customarily not to tip there. Singapore is the same. I suppose every country has its own unique local custom hence my question here. When in Rome, do as the Romans do is always my principle.

Thanks again for tips on Argentina.
