Lucky to have time to plan out the 12/2013 trip to South America. There is a Brazilian consulate in SF which helps when we get ready to get our visas.
Of course, if DH doesn't want to visit the falls, I'll look only into flying into BA and pay for their visas upon arrival at the airport. -- I kinda think the 2006 Argentina stamp may not be valid by 2013. However in a just in case, I will bring along the old passports with the stamp.

Entry fees are good for 10 years I think.... but somehow I dont think the fee was being charged back in 2006.... so if you came here that year, you have not yet paid the fee in which case you will have to do so when you come in 2013. Looking at the glass half full, you can then come back for the next 10 years free of charge..... ;)

I hopefully have an 8 night stay in Argentina coming up in a couple of weeks [pending last minute things might kill the trip]. I fly into EZE and want to eat/drink in BA and see Iguazu Falls. I have grazed through this thread but it is loooooong. My first question then is where do I start? Do I go back 10 pages? 50 pages?

Cheers -

Im afraid there is no easy way around this... suggest you invest a good 60-90 minutes browsing through all the pages, it will be time well invested. You should be able to screen the various posts to weed out the ones that are not interesting for you and spend more time reading the details on the ones that are relevant for what you want to do.

For F&B, suggest you look at the specific master thread, thats where you will find the best information on where to get some dead cow, grape juice and the other chow options.... :D

The hotel property in question is still a Sheraton.

I like the idea but we were hoping to go straight to the Falls. If I land at on Jul 1 at 1:15 at EZE, what is the earliest I could make a connection to the Falls? I am seeing 3:20 from AEP but that just seems way too close to make it. (how far is AEP away from EZE? ITA says 18 miles). Also, does it matter whether I fly to IGR or IGU? I already have a Brazilian visa.

There is a full moon on July 3 and the goal was to make it to the Falls on that night. I am also looking to point out my stay at the Hilton and splitting the reward into 2 parts hurts redemption value.

Cheers

Gaucho100k is.correct. However, i can suggest a plan based on a very nice trip experience a few years ago. Find a hotel you.like.in ba located in a district where you can.enjoy cow on a plate and grape in a glass without too much dependency on transportation. Book a flight to iguazu falls, stay for 2 nights at the hotel in the park (used to be a sheraton) then return to the same hotel - have them keep your bags and travel to the falls light. You can then spend an extra day or two in BA before returning home.

7/1 is a Sunday, so you could make it, traffic is usually very light. But you'd need some luck. I made it in 60 minutes last year (http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/argen...0-minutes.html), but I was in the front of the plane, there was no other flight ahead of us at immigration or customs, I only had carry on luggage, and I was very lucky that morning. 2 hours is much more doable, but you may get stuck on a later flight. I'm not sure which airline you're looking at for AEP-IGU/IGR, some will be pretty flexible if you arrive late some will charge you to switch to a later flight. I'd recommend flying into the Argentinian side if you're staying at the Sheraton, its less than 10 minutes from the airport. If you fly into Brazil you'll be adding time to deal with immigration at AEP, then when you land, and then you have a pretty long drive to get to the hotel.

Thanks -

I was on the road all week for work and haven't really planned for this trip like I should

I have read some web postings about bus service between BA and Iguazu - thoughts? Maybe with a stop Sunday night along the way?

Not sure if I want to risk it on the same day at 60 minutes but it might make for an adventure. :D Lan and Aerolineas have 3:20 and 3:55 pm flights, respectively. According to Kayak, Lan is half the price [on Kayak it would have the rate for non-locals correct?] EDIT: I knew I shouldn't have used Kayak. None of the listed cheaper fares are available

Kayak is not reliable for Brazil/South America because it gets a price then converts it internally. So it's using one 'version'/country of the site only.

This compares to logging into the site, choosing a country, then seeing the prices.

I ended up booking an award flight on Aerolineas and transit time didn't matter because a bunch of AEP-SLA flights were cancelled and my 6:05 flight was delayed hours. It seemed like everyone going to SLA that day ended up on the same flight.

Avoid Aerolineas Argentinas - DANGER

I was an employee of Aerolineas Argentinas for nearly 10 years. I no longer work for them anymore. I can tell you that this airline is one of the most poorly run and dangerous companies to work for in the world. Everything gets stolen, the mechanics tools, the equipment, the passengers luggage, every piece of luggage gets opened and anything of value will be stolen. The government has their political group "La Cámpora" running the airline of Aerolineas Argentinas. They have made this airline run at a defecit for millions of dollars and they take anything that can be stolen, computers, office supplies, safety equipment, someone was even stealing the fire extinguishers from the aireplanes and selling them for $30 dollars each! Any employee who complains about corruption they get threatened and fired, they go to your house and break the windows and scratch your car from one end to the other for speaking up about the corruption. There are no safety standards you are risking your life flying this airline, there are some countries that will not allow Aerolineas Argentinas to fly their planes in to their airports because the airplanes have no safety and maintenance records. The international community must get involved. The government of Argentina, Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner, have stolen everything and corrupted this company and people in the air and people's on the ground life is at risk. AVOID AEROLINEAS ARGENTINAS YOU CAN BE KILLED BY THEIR OLD UNSAFE UNMAINTAINED AIRPLANES!!

Welcome to FlyerTalk, KretinaK.

When did you stop working for Aerolineas...? Im sure you must have many stories to tell...

I agree that AR is the last resort for travel, I myself avoid them like the pest.

Having said this, Im not sure that safety issues are as bad as you post since if this were the case, AR birds would have been banned from operating into US and possibly EU airports and this is not, to date, the case.

Regardless, I agree 200% that the Campora gang is a Cancer for AR and they will ruin whats left of the company... some of the lease contracts on planes that dont fly are a disgrace and would have cost the current management their jobs in most other places. AR is one of the examples of why the K regime is such bad news for Argentina.... lets hope that these bozos lose the next legislative elections and start packing their bags sooner rather than later... I guess hope is the last thing you lose.

.

Indeed....what a first post. :D

To be fair to AR ....I would say they have a pretty good safety record. If there were any concerns about the safety of their aircraft then they simply wouldn't be allowed to fly into international air space.
I agree they do have big problems and are being propped up by unfair means....the amount of money that's going down the drain in order to keep them going is shameful. The quicker AR disappears from the aviation world the better to be honest.

Is it worth it to make sure we're in BA for a weekend? Im going with girlfriend and we both enjoy some nightlife. We're not crazy clubbers but she likes to dance and I enjoy drinking. We're working on our schedule and trying to determine if we should adjust to ensure that we have a full weekend to enjoy the city vs going for just weekdays? Likely looking at around a 5 day stay either way.

How much different is the city, not just in terms of nightlife on the weekend vs the week?

This would be for mid-sept if that makes a difference.

Thanks
