Is there an actual reason that you require a "welcome kit?"

Thanks to djrez4 & other folks here who confirmed that this worked. I saw the link to the amex website a few posts up in this thread.

But did anyone ever get notified by Amex that this benefit was available? Seems odd that they wouldn't promote this or at least mention it online in the list of benefits.

I became gold on points three years ago and have yet to receive anything above a silver card. Maybe if they threw in a box of DT cookies I'd be interested.

I think physical cards are nice to have when traveling abroad.

Not Hilton, but recently I was at Le Meridien Bangkok (SPG) where I dined for Christmas and I was entitled to a discount on the bill being an SPG member... I whipped out the physical card and the staff knew what to do right away.

She didn't understand me at first when I inquired about the discount, but when I pulled out the card she got it.

The diamond card can be useful in Vegas. At the old lV Hilton you had to show the card to get access to the priority buffet line.

At the Doubletree Tropicana in Vegas if you have your Hilton Diamond card you can use the VIP Casino fast track line for breakfast

And, full circle:

I forgot to call (already have gold through the Reserve) until tonight. Joy told me that they were no longer enrolling.

I called this afternoon (1/3) and got it with no question from the representative. She knew exactly what I was talking about, I provided my HHonors #, and was off the phone in less than 90 seconds.

Strange, called today and was told that I need to call Hilton for that, they forwarded me and the Hilton rep said that I need to have a Hilton branded card. I think the Amex rep didn't know what he was doing. Well, calling again.

Edit: Called a 2nd time and was told the promo expired. Off to another call.

Edit 2: Called a 3rd time, rep said the offer has expired and mentioned that they now give out Starwood gold, signed up right away. I'll still call and try to get Hilton Gold.

You've been told multiple times that it's expired. The website clearly indicated that it expired on 12/31. Enough is enough.

So I called and had the Hilton Gold Status added via AMEX.

However - I already had Gold via a promo/stays at the time, that would typically expire in early 2014.

How can I check to confirm my Gold status is good to go through early 2015 - assuming that the Amex Plat signup would have activated my membership through then?

Tried today - no go - looks like they had the "expired" speech all too ready for me.

Well, it's not really a "speech" The offer is expired. The terms and conditions were well documented, they sent emails out to card holders announcing the offer, and people had literally two full months to make the 15 minute phone call to take advantage of the offer. Not sure what else Amex should be expected to do in this case.

I can't fathom why people are still trying to call in for this. Why not just call before the clearly documented expiration date?
