Does anyone have experience getting an retention bonus on the Personal Platinum a year after getting a significant bonus the year before (received 25,000 points a year ago)?

My spend of $25K is about the same this year....

I got 20k MR points first year, $100 credit the next. Not sure if either of these qualify as "significant," but my spend was probably around 20k first year and 10k the next.

$100 credit + $100 airline credit.

That's coming out $5 on top.

Just to follow up from activity upthread ( http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/25566427-post468.html ):

Called AmEx in mid-October and asked about retention offers for my personal Platinum account. Was offered 20k MR points to stay, accepted. AmEx instead closed my account. Called back and asked for explanation, account was reopened next day and I received a one month account fee statement credit perhaps to say "sorry we accidentally closed your account" (but no MR points). Was told agents would follow up, but I was never called back.

Called last Saturday and asked whether I had any retention offers — was told no. Asked about the 20k retention offer that I had tried to accept; was told they had no documentation of it, but they would listen to the call records from my October call and follow up on Monday. No call on Monday; followed up on Tuesday with the direct extension of the person I talked to on Saturday, who confirmed that they had decided to honor the offer. The 20K MR points posted Tuesday night.

Confusing, but an OK outcome (effectively 20k MR points + $37.50 statement credit to keep a personal Plat card open).

Does retentions consider the length of the AmEx account as a factor in retentions bonuses?

Called to cancel my personal platinum card today as AF just posted and I just haven't used this card much (still using my Chase cards primarily)

Was offered 20k points for $3k spend over the next 2 months. Told her I needed to think about it and she said she needed an answer today. Said she could also offer $200 statement credit. Took the statement credit

I'm a couple of months away from my second anniversary. (MB personal platinum).

On my first anniversary I got 15k MR (5k immediately and 10k after $2k spend)

This year I've put more spend on the card. $34k so far.

I also have my first year anniversary coming for the everyday preferred card. $14k spend year to date. The anniversary is about a month before platinum. (Also have SPG but under $10k spend so doubt it's worth asking for anything)

In curious if it would hurt my offer chances for platinum if I ask for EDP card offer ahead of time? I'm not planning to give either of the cards up yet. EDP is my go to grocery card when Freedom isn't bounding supermarket spend.

Also, with SPG possibly going away there's another Amex partnership and platinum benefit (SPG gold status) going away. It may add talking points with retention. (Costco loss notwithstanding )

Why would SPG go away? Isn't Marriott's loyalty program merging into SPG as opposed to the opposite or a new program for the combined entity?

Marriott purchased Starwood for USD12.2B, it's their show, i believe the Board will be stacked with Marriott directors.

They will have the overwhelming influence.

Delta Reserve American Express

Called retentions a couple of weeks ago after my annual fee posted on my account: nothing, no points, nor statement credit. Call recently and tried again: $450 statement credit! Annual spend was enough to get the two 15,000 MQM and bonus miles.

The Delta card, not long, but had an AmEx charge card (green then gold) for 30+ years.
