Second year? Mind sharing your total spending?

I plan to switch to an Amex EveryDay at the end of the year if I don't get a good retention bonus, so I can hold on to my MR points.

An Everyday card linked to the same Membership Rewards account will preserve your points balance, but you cannot "switch" to Everyday from any other product. You must apply.

Maybe $2000 for the year. So I was surprised I got any miles, let alone this many.

I had talked about being unsure about the Delta FF program changes.

The agent mentioned that I'd been an AmEx card member since the 1990s. While I had a card back then, I've not used AmEx in the previous 12-15 years. So maybe the AmEx backdating helped in this case?

For 1 year old MB Platinum with about $7K of yearly spend was offered 15K MR points and 5K after 3000 spend in 90 days. The steady negative changes to MR program and and bad experiences using some of the benefits was the tipping point and I just cancelled.

Canceled my MB Platinum today - had the card since 2011. Only about $1k of spend on it for the last year (all at the Mercedes Dealer for 5x points). I was not offered any type of retention bonus. The rep attempted to convince me to product change to the PRG card but I declined and card was immediately canceled.

I will be signing up for the business platinum card in the next week via a 100k RSVP letter mailed to my business.

In the past I was offered:

2014 - nothing, instant account closure
2013 - extra $500 in AA credits
2012 - 50k MR points with renewal
2011 - first year

Possible to get a retention offer twice in the same year for the same card?

I can't edit the wiki, so here's a fresh data point (feel free to add it):

- Had Delta Amex Gold for 13.5 months (total spending about $2K-$3K); was offered 12.5K miles or $25 statement credit (or downgrade to Delta Simple card w/o benefits and still a $55 annual fee). Decided to cancel the card (though thinking about it, maybe w/ Amex's pro-rating policy I could've gotten the 12.5K miles cheaper by canceling after they posted, but my policy is to avoid risking charges I wouldn't be willing to pay in full, so there you have it). 11/2014.

Either I can't or I do not know how to edit the wiki.
Delta Business Platinum 11/14. Open 1 year, $7k total spend, $5k of that was travel.
First offer of 7500 miles, denied, 15k miles offered, I hedged, 25k was the final offer to offset the annual fee increase. Accepted.

I was offered a managerial rate of 45000 MR points for the fee. Had plenty saved up so used that to offset fee.

From my experience, the Annual fee on Amex was prorated if you cancel. So the only reason to act by the renewal date is the cash outlay. And they give you a grace period. So you'd get (e.g.) 12/12 of it back if you cancelled within a month and 10/12 back if you cancel two months later.

AMEX platinum retention offer

This is the third year I have had my card. It renews every November. I have spent around $15,000 total on it, and $8000 this year. I was given 5000 points and 2500 more if I spend $1000 in 60 days.

Do you use the benefits a lot? Paying a $450 fee to charge $8k is like paying a 5% surcharge on everything. The points are nice but nowhere near make up for the AF.

No one has had any retention offers on the Amex Hilton Surpass?

Stgermainparis Nov 15, 2014 4:18 pm

I'm approaching my AF in late January. Got card in 2013 w/ 100k MR bonus. Got retention bonus of 50k last January and a $100 credit when adding cardholders b/c of loss of guests w/ Skyclub. It's such a high AF but I'd like to keep it for lounge benefits and MR in general. Are you guys generally calling in to see about bonus or doing chat? I like the documentation of chat, but wonder if the personal touch of a call would be better in this case.

50K Platinum Offer

I too received the 50K MR points offer for the platinum card. I also was offered a $100 fee credit for use with AA or US Airways to offset their lounge loss. About $10K spending and 3 authorized users.
