Q. How can I find information more easily than reading through all the threads? Now that I'm here, what do I do next?
Check out the following resources:
Searching can be key to finding important information and answers without waiting for someone to drop by and answer, and it helps prevent that information fragmentation. FlyerTalk Advanced Search can seem quirky to the infrequent user, but it's fairly powerful if one knows how to use it. There are several ways to search:
Forum basics: Now that the new AA has become by some measures "the world's largest airline", this new, combined has become a "mega-forum", very large, very active - and theoretically very difficult to find information and easy to lose one's place. Having to search for and sort through dozens - or more - of threads on baggage, airports, minimum connect times or the like could soon become unproductive and discouraging.
To prevent this from occurring, please note we try to:
Keep a few "sticky" threads: such as GUIDE posts, OSO / IROPS, etc. for urgent and quick reference, such as basic "where do I find" reasons
Keep threads to specific topics: Prevent information fragmentation and loss by consolidating questions, answers and discussion of one topic contained in one thread. (This also honors those members who have already shared valuable information and experiences.)
"Popular" threads are likely to have a Wikipost at the head that will summarize important information and have resource links. These are "community property", and as any wiki are established, maintained and updated by the members (with 90 days of tenure and 90 posts on FlyerTalk).
You may find your question or post merged into one of those threads. Be sure that we will leave a link behind from your original thread, and to look up to see if there's a wiki with information. We apologize for any possible inconvenience or difference between this forum and others, but we think you'll like some of the resources and tools here to enable more convenient, comfortable travel on AA and greater knowledge sharing.
Keep it welcoming: We're proud the members of both FFPs have kept the brickbats to a minimum; we want this forum to be welcoming, civil and information rich, so name calling (including calling a member one disagrees with "AApologist") and snark are not tolerated. Posts with such are likely to be summarily deleted in their entirety; repeated such behavior may result in suspension of one's membership privileges or being banned from this forum. Let's keep it friendly and in accordance with the FT Rules.

Welcome to the Newbie Lounge!
Welcome to Flyertalk!
The Newbie Lounge is a place for newer and less experienced members to ask their questions about American Airlines and the AAdvantage program and have answered by our more experienced and knowledgeable members. Feel free to ask any question related to American Airlines and AAdvantage here.
NOTE: This is a "flame free" thread; flaming, personal criticism for "failing to search" etc. is not allowed (if posted, the post will be summarily deleted, the poster subject to sanctions).
Advanced questions posed by veteran FT users may be moved and / or merged into existing master or GUIDE threads, most of which have Wikiposts at the top of the page that contain summaries of important information.
We volunteer Moderators monitor this "lounge" thread to assist you as well. When browsing the fora, look at the page tops of the various forums. There will be a menu, and often "sticky" threads, and threads with header "wiki posts" (created and maintained by the FlyerTalk community) with important information relating to that forum / topic.
Don't hesitate to contact a moderator or another member if you have any additional questions. You can PM the Moderators by clicking on , which pops up a message box; the message goes to all this forum's Moderators. 72 hours after I register for the promotion. As for registering, it looks like my deadline is midnight on March 8 but I should probably call (like you said) just to be safe. The 500 mile upgrades are generally useless to me since I haven't had status in decades, and therefore, cannot use them. (I have 26 just sitting there).
As to whether you will get any PLT benefits for the return flights after your status expires, the official answer is "no" however realistically the answer is "maybe". Any preferred seats you select will carry over as long as you don't mess with the reservation in any way. Again if the res remains untouched your PLT status might still remain and thus let you upgrade, but this is certainly not something to be counted on. We've seen a few glitches like this happen over the years.
If you have tons of unused upgrades just sitting there already, and will get more with this promo, then I would just request both ways, if you happen to luck out and snag the return as well then great.

Any clues as to why my itinerary has disappeared from the website, just leaving a "contact reservations" banner but no flights? App still shows the flights, though does pop up a "contact reservations" message. Flights all seem to be still in the system [July], unchanged in timing and even carrying the same flight numbers. The daughter PNR, BA and AS PNRs are not complaining at all.
Actually wouldn't mind a cancellation, giving me the flexibility to refund if we can't travel by then [figure that's touch and go] - but wasn't expecting it this soon and as far as I can tell elsewhere don't have one yet.

New schedule AA 2027 march 27 lax to dfw on a 777? Are the 1st class seats the same as 787 first class seats? you think an equipment change before that date?

And the March schedule should be pretty much set at this point so an equipment change is not likely.

I figured out what is happening. I’ll get cleared for the gold upgrade 24 hours out if seats in first are available. I always check in right at check in time. Then on the day of departure someone with higher status will make a last minute reservation or switch flights but they weren’t originally on that flight and once you’re upgraded they don’t take it away. My first couple of flights I’ve wondered if they page me to the podium and tell me I’m being moved to economy.

Paying Award Travel fees with different Credit Card?
I went through the booking process for 2 tickets in my DH's AA miles account, in his name. When I went to pay for the associated fees, I want to use my Chase Sapphire Reserve, in my name, for the travel insurance coverage), it error say in red,
The first name and last name on the credit card must be an exact match to what is on the AAdvantage account. Please correct the name and continue.
How do I pay for the fees with my card?? Is it not possible? I tried saving my card in his wallet. Still the same error.
( I am able to do this with Delta, is AA not the same?)

You can try inputting your credit card # but with his name at aa.com, sometimes the system won't pick it up. Otherwise give AA a call with both of you on the line and they should be able to process it.

This is my first FT post and I am posting it here in the flame-free thread to keep it on track to answering the questions, not sparking a debate.
I have over 100,000 AA points saved up that I have not been able to use to fly because AA pulled out of my now home city a number of years ago. However, in early (probably January) 2023, I will have the chance to fly one way from DFW > MCO, which will allow myself and my companion to use lots of those points. I am starting planning now, 2 years out, because if AA isn't an option then we need to plan for other options, which might mean needing to earn lots of points quickly with another airline as well as planning for a much more complicated trip.
The situation:
I have multiple severe food allergies. The ones relevant for my questions below are peanuts, tree nuts, and seafood (fish/shellfish). I usually fly airlines that will not serve PN/TN on the flight and/or will create a buffer zone and do not serve seafood. While I know that AA does not serve peanuts, I also am aware that they do not do the other accommodations. When I fly I do the following to protect myself, with the guidance of my doctor: wear a very high filtration mask the entire flight; wearing gloves, use wipes to wipe down entire seat and window area, including seat, armrests, seatbelt, etc; use a disposable seat cover; do not eat or drink on flight except to take medication or if extremely thirsty, in which case I use food and water I bring with me [this same rule for both of us]; wear pants, long sleeves and a jacket with hood; carry multiple Epi-pens and other allergy medication (on my person and in "personal item" at my feet); pre-medicate with non-sedating long-acting antihistamine; notify airline special assistance/medical department well in advance and airline staff at checkin, gate and while boarding; checkin early. My file usually ends up having a medical flag attached to it that prevents online checkin.
To minimize allergen risks, for our one way DFW > MCO flight, we are considering a direct flight (only one meal time to deal with), first flight of the day for that route (in theory the plane will be nearer its cleanest; also breakfast I am hoping is the least likely meal to be a potential issue). Using a comparable date in Jan 2022, this would mean a flight departing DFW @ 0705, arriving MCO @ 1040, 321-Airbus A321. Presumably in 2023 the times would be in the same ballpark-ish. We are considering two seats in First Class [last row], or three seats in Main Cabin Extra (purchasing an extra seat so we get the whole row).
My questions assume that the pandemic is over and AA has resumed their "normal" similar-to-before-the-pandemic meal services:
(1) I understand this flight would likely have a breakfast meal for first class; therefore, would
(a) warmed/heated nuts also be served ?
(b) are cold nuts usually part of breakfast and/or any snacks/food served at this time of day ? In First Class ? In the rest of the plane ?
(2) is any kind of seafood (fish/shellfish) part of the meal or snacks served at this time of day ? if so, is it cold or heated ?
Next, if we decide that we would be safer to purchase three seats in main cabin extra, can I use my AA points to purchase the third seat or does that have to be cash? I understand regardless I have to call to do that one.
Finally, online for Main Cabin tickets it doesn't seem to show an option for puchasing Main Cabin Extra using AA points.. How does one do that ? Do you purchase the ticket with points and then call and pay cash to purchase the MCE seat ? Is the price the same as the MCE up-charge for a cash ticket [which is $47 (middle, window) or $63 aisle for the date I chose as my reference]. Does it matter what kind of AA award fare it is - web special or another kind ?
Thank you very much for the help !
Sara

As to what AA might be serving on an early morning DFW-MCO flight nearly 2 years from now, that is anyone's guess, a crystal ball type question.
If you use AA miles to book a coach seat, you have the option of selecting a MCE seat at booking for $$, or you can just call AA after booking.
Honestly in your situation I would forget about using miles and just buy a one-way early morning DFW-MCO on Spirit where you're guaranteed no food service. The only thing you'd have to worry about is any food brought on by other pax (same as any other airline), but on a 6am flight where most are sleeping the risk of others having nuts or seafood seems about as minimal as you can get.
It makes little sense to spin your wheels collecting miles with another carrier for a ticket that can easily be bought for $50-$150 all day long.

To try and answer some of your questions, on breakfast flights in F AA typically does not serve the warm mixed nuts, and I don't ever remember seeing a breakfast choice in F on a mid-con flight that included any type of seafood.

I realize figuring out what AA will be serving in two years is a crystal ball situation, but I appreciate your insight based on what they have historically served. It is quite helpful.
I have never heard of Spirit, so will look into them as an option.
Thanks again !

What exactly is the current refund policy if I voluntarily cancel a flight? Am I entitled to a refund still, or have they gotten rid of that policy? I know I can still change flights for free but cancellation seems unclear to me, from reading the website. (My guess is I can't get a refund, but this is mostly an academic exercise because I don't think I'm actually going to cancel my flight, just change it by 1 day.)
