Welcome to the archived 2021 "NEWBIE LOUNGE"Ask Your Consolidated / Combined AA Questions Here (flame free)
MODERATOR GUIDEPOST:

FOR THE 2022 THREAD, SEE HERE: link

Welcome to the Newbie Lounge!
Welcome to Flyertalk!

The Newbie Lounge is a place for newer and less experienced members to ask their questions about American Airlines and the AAdvantage program and have answered by our more experienced and knowledgeable members. Feel free to ask any question related to American Airlines and AAdvantage here.

NOTE: This is a "flame free" thread; flaming, personal criticism for "failing to search" etc. is not allowed (if posted, the post will be summarily deleted, the poster subject to sanctions).

Advanced questions posed by veteran FT users may be moved and / or merged into existing master or GUIDE threads, most of which have Wikiposts at the top of the page that contain summaries of important information.

We volunteer Moderators monitor this "lounge" thread to assist you as well. When browsing the fora, look at the page tops of the various forums. There will be a menu, and often "sticky" threads, and threads with header "wiki posts" (created and maintained by the FlyerTalk community) with important information relating to that forum / topic.
Don't hesitate to contact a moderator or another member if you have any additional questions. You can PM the Moderators by clicking on , which pops up a message box; the message goes to all this forum's Moderators. Note that unlike some sites with paid staff moderators, FlyerTalk Moderators are volunteers, and most work, travel, go on holiday, etc. You can Private Message us using the PM system (My Flyertalk) and our handles.

We're glad you've chosen to join the Flyertalk frequent flyer community!

Q. How can I find information more easily than reading through all the threads? Now that I'm here, what do I do next?

Check out the following resources:

Searching can be key to finding important information and answers without waiting for someone to drop by and answer, and it helps prevent that information fragmentation. FlyerTalk Advanced Search can seem quirky to the infrequent user, but it's fairly powerful if one knows how to use it. There are several ways to search:
Forum basics: Now that the new AA has become by some measures "the world's largest airline", this new, combined has become a "mega-forum", very large, very active - and theoretically very difficult to find information and easy to lose one's place. Having to search for and sort through dozens - or more - of threads on baggage, airports, minimum connect times or the like could soon become unproductive and discouraging.

To prevent this from occurring, please note we try to:

Keep a few "sticky" threads: such as GUIDE posts, OSO / IROPS, etc. for urgent and quick reference, such as basic "where do I find" reasons

Keep threads to specific topics: Prevent information fragmentation and loss by consolidating questions, answers and discussion of one topic contained in one thread. (This also honors those members who have already shared valuable information and experiences.)

"Popular" threads are likely to have a Wikipost at the head that will summarize important information and have resource links. These are "community property", and as any wiki are established, maintained and updated by the members (with 90 days of tenure and 90 posts on FlyerTalk).

You may find your question or post merged into one of those threads. Be sure that we will leave a link behind from your original thread, and to look up to see if there's a wiki with information. We apologize for any possible inconvenience or difference between this forum and others, but we think you'll like some of the resources and tools here to enable more convenient, comfortable travel on AA and greater knowledge sharing.

Keep it welcoming: We're proud the members of both FFPs have kept the brickbats to a minimum; we want this forum to be welcoming, civil and information rich, so name calling (including calling a member one disagrees with "AApologist") and snark are not tolerated. Posts with such are likely to be summarily deleted in their entirety; repeated such behavior may result in suspension of one's membership privileges or being banned from this forum. Let's keep it friendly and in accordance with the FT Rules.

FlyerTalk Rules (We all agree to abide by these, and are held accountable.)

2. Where are my documents checked? PHX at the desk or at DFW at boarding?

Just wanting this to be smooth as I can..
1. You will check in online with AA, if it's available.
2. Your documents should be checked at the PHX desk. At DFW on boarding you should just have to show your passport with your boarding pass, but listen in the gate area for announcements.

Hi All - Newbie here. (Began at end of 2019) The new AA program seems pretty straight forward on how to earn LP's, but I'm still unsure of what happens to my existing miles, EQD's, EQS's, EQM's - Are they rolled into Loyalty points? I hit platinum next week and I think I hit my $2000EQD for the Sept 1 - Dec 21 period. Just trying to see if someone can help shed light. Thanks!

Does AC have their own site for members to log into or is that all through aa.com?
Ah, I get it. You are probably out of luck without the physical Citibank card, although you might be able to plead your case with a sympathetic AC agent. Does your aa.com home page show your Citi Executive Card membership? That would seem to be the only official online acknowledgement.

Agents can see the Admiral Club membership in the AAdvantage profile of the primary Executive MasterCard holder; however, it is not included in authorized users' profiles, they need to get their cards swiped. It's enough for me to just give my frequent flyer number when checking into an Admirals Club, I don't need to show the credit card.

EQSs and EQMs earned from January 1, 2021 through February 28, 2022 won't matter beyond March 1, 2022 beyond determining (most likely, assuming you didn't earn so many LPs in January and February 2022 that you qualified for a higher status than 14 months worth of EQD/EQM/EQS qualified you for) your status on March 1.

EQMs will still count for million miler lifetime status.

Accumulated miles will stay as before.

EQS will only be relevant for full PPro/EXP benefits.

EQD will be converted to an LP-equivalent on a 12-month rolling basis for determining upgrade priority.

Small correction: MM status is based on actual miles flown; not EQMs (which will effectively cease to exist in about 3 months).

I feel dumb for asking, but I have an upcoming 21 DEC MIA-LHR-MAD-CMN return leg of a roundtrip First ticket (A fare), and another one-way (I think F? Maybe A?) CMN-MAD-LHR-MIA on 13 JAN.

It seems likely Covid Omicron will make this trip undesirable (maybe there's a safety risk, unknown yet, but there may be heightened border controls, hassle at airport, or at destination). Given that they were misprice fares originally, I want to be sure to fly them vs. cancel for refund of $300-600 ea, but how do I do this? Delay until mid December when Omicron situation will be more known and then...call AA? Ask for different definite dates, or some indefinite suspense status?

Easy way to determine EQD and EQM’s

Hey Everyone,

I’m sorry, as I imagine this is a very common question, but I can’t seem to find an answer.

I am pursuing a challenge through Hyatt for AA Status and am very close to the EQD and EQM threshold needed and am trying to decide whether I need to book another flight. I have two upcoming flights that are already booked.

1.) Is there an easy way for me to see how many EQD and EQM’s will be earned on these flights? It seems like such an easy and important request but I can’t seem to find it anywhere. I did see that it would have been visible on the “booking” page but now that the flights are already booked, is there some way to get a firm number?

2.) I see on British Airways that the EQDs are 30% or similar. Does this mean that I will get 30% of full price that I paid in EQDs? I booked everything through the American Airlines website, if that means anything. It is just operated by British Airways.

Sorry if this is a common question. I did do a quick search of the forums and certainly have Googled, etc. It seems like there should just be an easy place to find “You should earn EQM and EQD’s on this flight..” page, but maybe I’m missing it?

Thanks everyone.

I am looking to buy a day pass to use at LAX Admiral Club. From the AC T&C page:
Day passes can be purchased at select locations and are based on lounge capacity.
Is capacity an issue for LAX AC? FWIW this will be on a Saturday morning around 11am-noon.

I am also hoping to use it same day at MIA AC - 9pm-10:30 (basically until they close).

Are both flights marketed by AA (i.e., do they carry AA flight numbers)? If so, the EQMs are the actual miles flown times the relevant cabin multiplier (2x for discount F/J, 3x for full fare F/J); and the EQDs are the dollars paid for the ticket excluding taxes.

There are two Admirals Clubs at LAX, at T4 and T5. The one in T5 is less busy. It's only a five minutes walk in the tunnel between the two terminals.

Thanks so much for the response. I appreciate it. Hm. Is there a way to tell? When I check my flight, it does list a flight number - four digits - followed by the American Airlines logo. Underneath it says “Operated by British Airways.”

I booked it through American Airlines website but had to choose seats on British Airways website, if that helps. Thanks for your help. I’m basically $100 away from meeting the challenge if things are rewarded as you said so would just take a quick flight somewhere if that’s the case but also don’t want to waste the time and money, if not. Thanks again.

Don’t know about LAX but I was unable to buy a daypass at MIA on Saturday Nov 13th. I would not plan on being able to buy one.

A four digit AA number will be a codeshare and will credit as if it was an AA operated flight. You usually have to select seats on the real operating carrier.
