Ord-Fco concern

Wife and I are flying ord-fco and back early April on a 788. I love the mini cabin and want to book in rows 6/7 but at concerned that they could switch it out due to retrofits and have us getting downgraded.

is this something I should be worried about or is it safe to book 6L/7L?

id say you have a 50% chance of getting aircraft without mini cabin in April if retrofit continues to go at the same spee

Big gamble. I wouldn’t do it.

N803AL coming back to DFW this afternoon from PAE. 10-day turnaround on that one.

Should see another 788 fly up to replace it in the next 24h. Probably N818AL.

I was wrong. N805AN going to PAE from DFW today.

We are 1 frame away from being halfway thru the refit. ^

I am flying AA2410 on N801AC later today and the seat map is showing as the refit with premium economy. It looks like at one point it was supposed to be N809AA which would make more sense, so I'll be curious to see if the seat map changes back to the old version (hope not), if the equipment changes again or if 801 is going to be a surprise addition to the refit list.

Looks like the tail # has changed a couple times in the past hours. The seat map / EF has not updated to show N801AC's layout, but is still showing N809AA (which is a 20J / W frame).

Here's the data from the inbound from ORD: https://www.flightstats.com/v2/flight-details/AA/2238?year=2019&month=2&date=21&flightId=990644595

N801AC does not have PE.

Sure enough, about an hour before flight time they just changed the seating chart back to the 28J frame. I can't help but wonder if I had grabbed something in row 6 or 7 (which were available, ugh) before the switch back if they would have left me in those J seats or moved me back.

if the seat does not exist in the cabin you are ticketed into, you will find yourself in row 99 all the way in the back. So I would recommend sticking to row 8-9 and don’t pick B or K seat.

Confirmed this exactly what happened, good call. It was chaos at the gate with at least 20 people being moved, plus 8 upgrades cleared. Not sure the gate agents even understood exactly what happened... at least not as well as this group did

Is AA only releasing the mini cabin F seats at the gate?

AA2238 is looking to be a nonrefit bird today, however AA is still holding 8 open F seats. I’d like to SDFC, but it’s not looking likely as my scheduled flight departs prior and I’m not entirely confident in trying to standby for F.

For reference, yesterday on AA 2410 (which is actually the return of AA 2238 back to ORD) they cleared 9 upgrades at the gate.

It was a no go. Flight was oversold, so those with upgrade requests get cleared first before paid J on standby.

Upgrade list was 30+ long for 8 seats, so it was stay on earlier flight in J, settle for random coach seat on the 788, or risk not clearing at all. Stayed with original flight.

In people’s experience flying the 788 since January, how often do planes/seat maps change in the week before a flight? If NRT-ORD next Friday is showing a 28-J bird, is that fairly reliable (barring IRROPS, etc)?

Trying to to gauge how likely is it that my wife will be upgraded at the gate vs be on a bird with just 20 (sold-out) J seats.
