I'd still recommend staying 8 or 9 in case you happen to get a non-refit at the last minute, in which case you'd get randomly reassigned if you were in 6 or 7.
Just remember the chances of getting a nonrefit 788 are not high, with three flying and two out of service at KPAE being refitted. 15:3 flying today.

Question is though, we are 3 in row 8 based upon the feedback for the safety of securing PE. however when 6/7 opens up will it already have the bumped J's into them does anyone know? Don't want to get excited and jump into 6 or perhaps 7 and then get hoisted out to the back of the bus. ;-)
The good news is they have not sold more than 20 seats in J for some time, so the likelihood of pax bumped into coach has reduced. It does not alter that some liked the mini cabin and reserved seats in it when it was public knowledge it was going. These folks may well end up with seats that they would not prefer. On LHR-ORD-LHR route, with the exception of flight 90, there are enough flights to move people around if need be to balance loads for a few bucks. Much worse if you are on a one a day PEK-DFW...

Question about today's flight AA110 ORD-FCO. Does anyone happen to know the tail number and if it was a retrofitted 787-8? I know that it's slated to be a retrofitted plane by May 1st because PE is being sold for that flight then. Today is the second day that flight even exists as ORD-FCO. I am curious if it went out with PE seating or not. I don't have a paid account anywhere to see tail number to cross reference the info from this thread. Thanks!

This flight is on the most recent PE-refit plane: N819AN.

if you don’t have EF subscription you can always do the same day search on AA.com and look at the seat map- if you see PE seats in 2-3-2 it’s retrofitted

Flightstats shows you the tail number for free and you can get a free EF subscription which shows seat maps and occpuied but not Award and Upgrade inventory. If that helps anyone.

Thanks, I guess I was using the wrong site! I've been watching things on FlightAware. I guess I will use Flightstats. I appreciate the info. I'm new at this

Looks like N801AC is on the way to PAE from DFW today (6 April).

N808AN coming back to DFW today with PE / reduced J, too.

Only two more w/o PE: N815AA, N816AA

N818AL came back to DFW from PAE on 10 April with PE.

N815AA was supposed to go to PAE on 10 April, but looks like it subbed into AA70/71 to FRA instead. I'm guessing it will go up to PAE tonight or tomorrow when it lands from FRA.

Only N816AA is left flying around without PE and 28J.

Dang! Was hoping to get an upgrade on my flight to FRA on 5/1. Believe it or not, my upgrade cleared already on my flight BACK from FRA to DFW - cleared more than a month out. That flight, too, is on a retrofitted 788. I was able to snag PE seats as MCE on the flight to FRA but was hoping the upgrade (miles + co-pay) would clear - looks like no chance since they are moving through the refits as fast as they are (and the seat map on AA.com shows only 2 available seats in BC right now on that flight and is showing a refitted 788 seat map).

The original 788 had 28 J seats and no PE. They are adding PE and removing 8 J seats, leaving 20 J.

domestically, PE is sold as MCE. they only sell 20 J seats now, but you could end up with a non reconfigured 788, which means theres 8 J seats now available for upgrade at the gate, but no PE.

There is one 787-8 / 788 in service with J28, N815AA, once N815AA has returned from FRA today and is flown to PAE. See the Wikipost at the top of the page.

All 788s other than N825AA are like https://www.seatguru.com/airlines/Am...ng_787-8_A.php.

By the end of the month, there won’t be any 788 28J. And international PE are likely to be for sale. If you can glom a PE seat, they’re the MiQ seat used in the Oasis F/J, with a bit more pitch and recline iirc, for sure grab it.
