Recently received an email congratulating me on passing 5 million program miles at the end of December. As expected, just the usual references to 4 SWUs and continuing minimum Platinum status during the life of the Program but a welcome missive nonetheless.

It is strategic, back when they announced the change, i decided not to spend extra $ and reach MM. I decided to wait and earn MM through BIS and achieve it in 2012 so I can get EVIPS expire 2/14!

I am EXP till 2/13 and then with soft landing PLAT 2/14. If I dont fly 30K BIS in ~ 2 years, I dont need to be elite.

Yup. I'm probably one of the few people (maybe the only one) who appreciates that they stopped counting the bonus miles toward RDM on 12/1 rather than, say 1/1/2012. As a result, all of my December travel counted only singly toward MM, allowing me to finish the year at about 2.995MM. Then I crossed 3MM on 1/4 and the 4 SWUs showed up within a day...with the 2/2014 expiration date. :)

Cheers.

I don't think you're the only one to appreciate that BRP. However, I was happy to pass 5m on 28th December as I have 9 TATL economy return flights in 2012 to upgrade so the 12 SWUs will come in very handy. Based on 100% success rate over the last few years when using SWUs mine will all be utilised well before Feb 13.

Probably, but most were bemoaning the timing of the change :)

For us, it's good that they're extended because of the DEQAA and DEQ11 promotions. As it turns out, we'll be at about 78K with already-booked flights with about another 30K domestic that we already have to do. As a result, no need for any more international this year).

Cheers.

Yeah. With my scheduled flights, I may also only do one international this year.

I was supposed to receive some bonus miles from my CITI CC for my statement that closed in November. CITI screwed up and did not credit those miles.

After 3 phone calls to CITI, they finally realized their mistake and credited the miles to me in December. Because of CITI's mistake, these miles don't figure into my MM calculation.

Obviously AA doesn't know these miles were supposed to post in November, so they can't do anything. And when I talk to CITI about this, they don't understand the issue at all.

Any thoughts on how to get these miles to count towards MM calculation? Or is it a lost cause?

Well, you both know whom to send your surplus VIPs to. ;)

I envy you. My 12/30 flight pushed me over the mark. The flight posted on 12/31 and AA posted the SWUs slightly before 11pm EST. I have no doubt they did it solely to ensure the SWUs expire on 2/13 as opposed to 2/14 and I was pissed! I should've just not put in my AADV # and flown coach.

New million mile program

First time here, so hopefully am posting in correct place!

Prior to the new million mile program commencing Dec 1st, 2011 I earned over 43,000 miles on my credit card in the month of November. Trying to get to lifetime platinum and close at 1,907,000.

All AA website rules talk about miles earned prior to December 1st, not posted to account prior to December 1st. My credit card posting is approx 15th of month. They are refusing to give me the 43,000 credit towards million mile status as they did not post until december 15.

Has anyone else experienced this? seems like bad form on AA's part

I already answered you in the other thread where you posted. There is also a consolidated thread on the topic that addresses these issues.

The terms of the new program were well publicized beforehand. This was discussed here at length. They were quite clear that miles must be posted before Dec 1. Most FTers planned accordingly to ensure crediting before the deadline.

Unfortunately, I believe you are out of luck.

bnw2005 Jan 9, 2012 9:20 pm

That is why I paid my November / December statement early so the payment was prior to 12/1/11. The miles were credited to the old million mile level. Need to think about these things before not after. AA gave lots of notice. AA is not at fault. just my opinion.

Thanks for all your input, but nowhere does it say miles must post prior to Dec 1st, only must be earned prior to Dec 1st

It's true that the date of earning and not the date of posting would be considered, but in terms of a credit card, miles are considered "earned" on the statement close date. If your statement closed on Nov 30 and the miles posted on Dec 3, they would have qualified under the old rules. But if your statement closes on Dec 2, then all purchases made Nov 3 - Dec 2 would be considered earned Dec 2 and would be under the new rules.

This is fairly easy to figure out based on how miles have posted in the past. I'm sure you noticed that miles post once a month, that the activity date on AA's site matches the statement close date on your Citibank statement, and that the miles actually post a few days after the statement date, but are backdated to the statement close date. Even if you didn't normally look at it in this detail, you probably noticed this when preparing for the new million miler program if you were looking for how exactly they'd post with respect to the Dec 1 deadline, as you claim to have done.

Given that, was it your expectation that for single AA line item for the Citibank statement that closed in Dec, that they'd apportion those miles based on which underlying purchases were made before Dec 1 and which after? To me, that would be an unreasonable assumption to make.
