2018 Program Year Elite Status Buyback / Renew / Boost (as of EOY 2017)
"Grace" for those close to completing status requirements has not been offered since AA began the buyback / renew / boost program.
In previous years, AA (and US) have offered those who failed to requalify for elite status the opportunity to buy back or "boost" status for the following status year. That offer was extended for the 2017 programme year, and the 2018 offering is be discussed here. E-mails have gone out to many members (16 Nov) with tailored offers. To see if you are eligible and to see what your offers are, go to https://elite.americanairlines.com/e...ewal/login.cfm
NOTE: “Plus, your purchase price will count toward your Rolling Elite Qualifying Dollars, helping improve your upgrade priority.” - AA

This thread has been really helpful. The offers are definitely changing as new flights posts. My daughter currently gold had her first offer to platinum with 4500 eqd and 41k eqm a month ago. She is now at 5400 eqd and 51k eqm and the offer has dropped to 735 which is pretty much the fare she would need to fly. That isn't a bad deal especially not having to fly. It's sort of ironic that she got a good fare to fly to South America and that she'll pay the difference anyway. I'm lifetime platinum with 55k miles and 5500 eqd and no offer and Mr worldwide is exp but decided to defect to UA and has 20k miles and 4k spend has no offer either.

I'm a PLT with less than $50EQD and 1,000EQM and was offered $699 for Gold and $1,299 for Platinum. At first I scoffed at the idea, but I'm starting to warm up to the Plat offer, especially since there are potential trips down the pipeline. I've been so used to free MCE for a while now that I had no idea how much it cost ($238 one way DFW-HKG?). Three seats (thanks to the recent family addition) RT to BCN would cost an extra $1.1K and 3 seats RT to LAX would be an extra $600 in EMS on Jetblue or $400 on AA. I know the mini-kanny can fly free (or mostly for int'l) on the lap, and I may end up using miles+copay to upgrade to Biz/J, anyway (sorry not sorry for the wailing spawn).
Or I can just take advantage of these seemingly cheap PE fares to a ton of places.

For people who had there offers changed after flights: Did you get a new email, or just find a new offer on the web site? If the latter how long did it take?
I had an offer for PP. I just passed PP and made it almost to EXP on EQM and EQD, but the offer has not changed.

Data point:
Current Status: EXP, requal for Gold for 2018 so far
EQD: $4200
EQM: 57000
EQS: 32
I was offered Platinum for $1299 + tax = $1363.95.
I have a BA PE run to JNB through LHR next weekend which will put me into PPro, so why on earth would I bother? Now, if they offered me that same price to buy up to EXP from PPro, I'd take it to save me a weekend CX/BA overseas run. I suspect they won't offer me that bump up - and since even PPro is useless for me, I'll just do another run between now and Jan 31 to requal EXP. I'm still considering making the jump to AS anyway.

I got my dates mixed up and this past weekend was my BA PE run to DXB through LHR. JNB is in a couple of weeks. I even got an op-up to Club World from WTP on one segment, and drank more than my share of Blue Label at the LHR lounge.
First set of flights posted this morning, and there was a *brand new shiny offer* waiting in my inbox this morning.
They are now offering me PPro at the killer deal price of $1795 + tax.
My second set of flights haven't posted yet, but it'll put me right at the cusp of PPro, and the JNB run will take me over the EXP threshold.

The only concern would be upgrades as he would potentially be lower down among the Platinum list due to EQD. That said, it would still be better with gold, and with 22 segments, Platinum is probably worth it.

Being PLT you need to realize upgrades aren't going to happen very often. However, PLT is good for MCE at time of booking which could equal out the cost also as PLT you will be above all Gold even with a low spend for upgrades.

Depends on pattern of flying. I've been upgraded on about 70% of my upgradeable domestic flights. Out of LGA, upgrades seem easier to come by than other hubs. I buy business or first on longer flights, so I'm covered there.
