2018 Program Year Elite Status Buyback / Renew / Boost (as of EOY 2017)
"Grace" for those close to completing status requirements has not been offered since AA began the buyback / renew / boost program.
In previous years, AA (and US) have offered those who failed to requalify for elite status the opportunity to buy back or "boost" status for the following status year. That offer was extended for the 2017 programme year, and the 2018 offering is be discussed here. E-mails have gone out to many members (16 Nov) with tailored offers. Got another email offer .. this time $1295 ... As of now, I have
EQM 98K
EQD 14K
.. and I have a flight later this week that will put me over 100K .. EQM, so I will obviously pass.

My only issue is that I rarely fly domestic at all, mostly international, easier to get status with partners on AA but I don't think EQD is offered by delta and united for partners like it is for AA, so maybe sticking with AA for now till further enhancements on the other programs or further devaluation on AA program then it's not worth my while, at the moment I am already PLT with Etihad but unfortunately they don't offer any appealing upgrades or useful status benefits other than lounge and luggage... I'm happy to move to any other program that will offer the most to international FF... any ideas?
with more activities my "astonishing" offer now is EQM 99,490 and EQD 11,610 and an amazing deal of $1,295 so cool ha?!

I earned EP in 2015 for 2016, was Plat in 2017, but will renew at Gold.

I can get a RT flight from LAX to NRT for $852 to get 10,880 miles. I'd rather do that twice I think or I'm sure someone could find me a better mileage run.

I'm EXP and have been for a decade plus. Currently have 123,996 EQM and 11,296 EQD. Offered $935 buy back, so $231 more than I need to spend actually flying.
Interestingly, I've spent nothing like $11,296 on travel. I've done two BA Premium Economy trips to Africa this year which have yielded tons of redeemable miles and way more EQD than I spent.

For international partner travel it's possible to redeem more EQDs because they're calculated based on percentage of distance rather than actual dollars spent. So if you find some good J fares you can rack up EQDs.

My personal experience travelling with partners I felt a little bit less appreciated as Emerald than as EP flying with AA... also forget about them operational upgrades if any they won't be given to Emeralds or at least I never got one...
On second note you gotta use them SUW somehow or give em away at least but don't forget the travel needs to be "Completed" by 31st Jan not just reserved by then.
This trick of "shortcut to EQD" may work now but only until AA decides to change that or restrict it somehow... Good luck

Both my kids are currently Plat, earned via challenge in 2016. One is less than 100 EQM shy of 25K, but has only around $1,800 EQD. Buy up to Gold for $699, to Plat for $1,299. The other has fewer than 4K EQM and less than $1,000 EQD. Can buy up to Gold also for $699, to Plat for $1,999.
Apparently no buyups to EXP. Wife has over 82K EQM and over $12,000 EQD but no offer.
I have already requalified for EXP but I tried it myself anyway. Sadly, no offer to buy up to CK.
