2018 Program Year Elite Status Buyback / Renew / Boost (as of EOY 2017)

"Grace" for those close to completing status requirements has not been offered since AA began the buyback / renew / boost program.

In previous years, AA (and US) have offered those who failed to requalify for elite status the opportunity to buy back or "boost" status for the following status year. That offer was extended for the 2017 programme year, and the 2018 offering is be discussed here. E-mails have gone out to many members (16 Nov) with tailored offers. To see if you are eligible and to see what your offers are, go to https://elite.americanairlines.com/e...ewal/login.cfm

NOTE: “Plus, your purchase price will count toward your Rolling Elite Qualifying Dollars, helping improve your upgrade priority.” - AA

List of members' offers for 2018 program year to be added below. See end for 2016 offers.

List current status, EQD & EQM / EQS, $ required for buyback or boost and status offered:

I had an offer of $1295 with 78K EQM, 90 segments, 11k EQD for requalifying as Exec Plat.

I just finished an AUS-LHR-JNB roundtrip which took me over the top and qualified me as EXP anyway, do I didn't need to do this.

$3,875 for PLT. Yeah no lol.
Buying up to Plat would be cheaper than buying and flying the actual tickets to get to Plat, in this case.

$15,945 EQD / 76,936 EQM / 29 EQS and no offer to buy up to EXP, guess I'll have to find a way to get an addition 18k EQM beyond what I have scheduled for the rest of the year.

So my buy-in price was reduced. A couple of weeks ago, I was sitting at $6,548 EQD, 35,489 miles and 14 segments, and was offered $1,195 to requalify for Platinum. Today, I’m at 41,439 EQM, $7,671 EQD and I was offered $895. I will have 43,500 or so EQM and $8,200 EQD by the end of the week. As of today, I don’t know if I will get to the EQM line without a mileage run.

two questions
1) How low could I get my buyin?
2) Does it make sense to do a mileage run to get to Platinum and look at a PlatPro buyup? As a high EQD flier I think i would get one. Most of my routes are transcons in paid business and NYC to non hub flying.

Platinum via a challenge last year. But have flown exactly 0 AA flights this year (just depended on destination) but since there's a shot I won't make UA Gold (no time for a mileage run) and won't make anything on DL (gave up on LGA) the AA buy is surprising.

AAdvantage Platinum

Total Cost....$1,299.00

Your AA profile is very similar to mine as a current PLT, and I received the same offer. I have status, the travel companion does not.

I'm unlikely to qualify even for Gold on flying alone through the end of 2017, and most of my weekends and weekdays are already allocated to other activities. Last minute MRs out of ORD in the early winter are too risky due to weather. The gold buy-up is looking quite reasonable for me at this point. As a somewhat-frequent leisure short-trip traveler, *some* status is better than *no* status and we fly AA frequently enough to enjoy that little bit of status.

As of now, will be ending the year as a PLTPRO (79k EQM, 11k EQD) but could make my way to 100k/12k. If not, does buying up to EXP get me four SWUs?

Platinum here.
61.1k EQM
$11.1k EQD (this is boosted by my Aviator card)
19 EQS

I'm being offered Platinum Pro for $1,645.

I just don't see how Plat could possibly worth $3,875 over Gold.

Yes, you get all the benefits of the EXP level.

EXP. Already above 100k miles, but currently about $1,100 short in EQDs. Offered renewal of EXP for $1,335 — which happily I won't need as my bookings before the end of December will take care of that.

I think their assessment is that you wasted money to do a Plat challenge but didn't even use the benefits. Maybe you'll pay them an additional $1,300 to just sit it out again.

How many times I would need to redeem miles to justify 1300$ fee??!!
Champagne is always nice but then I could be drinking Krug or Dom for that price without needing to sit in a metal tube
Yes, I believe that buying status counts as an exception.

So, I am at $8,639 EQD, 42,385 EQM and 16 seg and my offer is $1,075. I wonder why my offer is higher than yours when I have more spend, miles and segments?

Ideally the best customer is the one that pays and leaves his merchandise.

However, I wasted zero because it was all work travel, essentially spending my summer in O'Hare. Paying for the challenge wouldn't be reimbursed so unless I started doing ALL my vacation travel on AA (instead of UA,B6 and DL) it really would NOT be worth it.
