2018 Program Year Elite Status Buyback / Renew / Boost (as of EOY 2017)

"Grace" for those close to completing status requirements has not been offered since AA began the buyback / renew / boost program.

In previous years, AA (and US) have offered those who failed to requalify for elite status the opportunity to buy back or "boost" status for the following status year. That offer was extended for the 2017 programme year, and the 2018 offering is be discussed here. E-mails have gone out to many members (16 Nov) with tailored offers. To see if you are eligible and to see what your offers are, go to https://elite.americanairlines.com/e...ewal/login.cfm

NOTE: “Plus, your purchase price will count toward your Rolling Elite Qualifying Dollars, helping improve your upgrade priority.” - AA

List of members' offers for 2018 program year to be added below. See end for 2016 offers.

List current status, EQD & EQM / EQS, $ required for buyback or boost and status offered:

Current Status: Gold
EQMs: approx 9K
EQ$: approx 1K
Offer: Gold $699

Have to decide how much I'll fly next year. I do two business trips a year PHL-LAS. A few years ago I was flying that route 1-2x a month, but obviously much less now.

Wow, absolutely the stupidest thing the Parker lead AA has done.

When this came out, current EXP

99,400 miles
$14k+ EQD

Offer $1,299

Really am I stupid? Oh btw AA my return trip puts me over 100k so why would I even consider this.

If EXP requirement is 12,000 why wouldn't buy up be a min of 12,000 less what ever you have not spent?

This just tells us that it doesn't matter what you fly or spend.

Mrs. Deac83 current plat

30k+ miles
$2850

And she's been at that level since August. Her buy up is:

Gold $235 more that her spending deficit.
Plat $1,299, she's $3,000 below plat spend. I'm glad to pay up since she's $1,700 ahead on the plat deal.

AA has lost touch with reality and seems to think we can't do math. I need essentially one flight to make EXP and they want $1200, my wife would have to spend time and money to get anywhere near Plat and they gift it to her at a discount of $1,700.

All the speculation that low end EXP's would be weeded out is gone.

Not to mention this is the first time they've offered a buy up to EXP.

I guess I don't have to worry about EXP qual for next year I can just wait for Nov to find out the real cost.

And who, in their right mind, would put this offer out in Nov. We had two months to chase the traditional requirements. People can stop traveling and make EXP.

Huh? My segment Monday will put me over the edge.
Haven't read all of them but this might be the only one stupider than the one they sent me (99,400, $14k+ for $1,299).

When did they pull the data? June?

I mean, crap, we both could jump on any $150 rt flight and get 1,000 EQM. They are completely out of touch with reality.

I'll get the last laugh, Mrs. Deac 83 might have flown 60k miles in the last 3 years but I was smart enough to buy her up to plat every year so we are probably $7,000 ahead of the game as a family unit.

Wow, so stupid.

I mean I just booked at ticket DFW-SEA-SFO-DFW for $500, do they think I'm really that stupid to pay $1300 for something I can get for less than $500. Darn I can go RT to Europe for less than $1k without even looking. Completely perplexing.

The complete irony of this is that they changed the entire FF model to value $$ spent and then they make offers that clearly ignore that and value miles flown.

So stupid.

95,530 EQM
$17,779 EQD

Offer for EXP: $1,395

EQD was $14,795 likely when they ran their numbers - had a new flight post 2 days before their emails)
EQM was 84K or so two days before the emails

Will make the EQM's next week to clear this and likely be 15K over for the needed EQMs for EXP

I'll hit Gold by the end of the year, just need to book one more flight. Already know I'll make Gold next year, too, with flights already booked for summer. I'm not sure if the additional 20% for bonus miles and selecting any MCE seat at booking are worth the extra $1299.

Do the offers get updated as you fly more?

me: current plat, over $11k EQD, now 1 segment short of re-qualifying for Plat (but did have 4 segments on Thursday the day I checked the link).

offer: $695 to retain Plat, no offer for Plat Pro

Congrats! At least you'll qualify on your own and not have to deal with paying for it.

If only these were transferable, I'd buy from you in a nano second. Although, I'm sure you'd want to give it to someone you know

Safe travels.

Pretty much the same here -- $225 to get to EXP. Currently at 115K EQM and $11,961 EQD.

That would be an easy decision for me; it's most definitely not worth $1299, not even close.

You get a 50% discount on MCE as Gold, and I wouldn't value the extra 20% RDM's as very much, so unless you would be buying a lot of MCE then Gold is probably good enough.

$1,300 vs. 600 miles, yes stupid. The only people stupider besides Parker would be the ones that take this offer on Nov 1st with 2 months left in the year.

And they have no data, this is the first year they've had the miles and $$ requirement.

I have more data points than they do.

FWIW I now have $15k and 100,400 miles as of today, maybe I should write them a check?
