See posts 37, 38 and others above.... It has been regular AA practice to only sell F and Y on three cabin domestic flights other than JFK-LAX/SFO, and allow elites on economy fares to assign J seats, with Y service in that cabin.
But if AA.com is not displaying proper pricing info for Y and F seats, then yes that is a recent development.

Weird, but I guess it's one of these glitches? I have a ticket for MIA-LAX @ 5:00 PM July 9, 2016, which I booked in August. Today I received two schedule change notifications, each regarding the same change (flight number went from AA27 to AA1428). The equipment (777-200) and the times remained the same.
The weird part is that my confirmation went from "Business -- Dinner" as the meal to "Business -- Food Available for Purchase," and the business cabin isn't available for booking on aa.com. The seat is still in the business cabin, though.

I just booked the 9am LAX-MIA F in late March last night prior to reading this thread (EF and AA still show 777 not 77W) as part of a SYD-LAX in QF F trip with my girlfriend (awesome, cannot wait). Even if this gets swapped for a 77W or refurb 777, does this route have the same Flagship food and beverage service as JFK-LAX? From 2014 trip reports it seems it does but I am unable to confirm via AA.com

For those of you located MCO. Did you know that some of the morning MCO-MIA departures are operated by 767's. Sometimes it's the refurbished 767, sometimes the old configuration.

Personally, on this flight I'd say F isn't really worth the added cost. There's not much differentiation on soft product and the hard product in either cabin is fine for the length of the flight. Unless you particularly want to sit in F, I'd say J is the way to go, and save your cash for something else.
Indeed. It's flight 2517 and it typically is the refurbished 767. That's a pretty decent ride on that flight.

Book the 9am and it will likely become a 77W, but just be prepared to be happy with the 772 in case.
