That is interesting.
Mine shows "6,186 points are scheduled to expire 12-31-2013"

Extending expiration

This is random but I thought I would add it. I spoke to someone who would know and they told me the following (have not tried it):
1. Redeem expiring points for any award.
2. Call back before the award expires and change it to a different, more costly award that requires you to redeem additional unexpired points.
3. New award valid for a year from date of issue.

Anyone ever have a ticket show up as base fare 0?

(It was a one-way ticket on a Skywest DBA American Eagle flight.)

I've certainly had tickets disqualified for using discount codes, but the base fare still shows. I would shoot them an email to look into it.

A $250 minimum base fare (before taxes and fees) applies for each round-trip ticket.
I booked a fare with a $261 base fare, $304.60 total. AA.com still shows that. The e-mail says $242.79 (and the rest in taxes and fees, still $304.60 total), thus making it ineligible.

Another itinerary, AA.com shows $288.00 base/$330.10 total, and e-mails says $267.90/$62.20 taxes ($330.10 total).

In this case, no big deal since it still qualifies, but very misleading by AA.com.

On the phone with BE sorting it out--will update.

Dijbouti, great point. I too have noticed that AA.COM statements of fare do not always match email confirmation statements. Indeed, AA.COM is sometimes internally inconsistent. See the examples on my site including arithmetic errors (quoted fare plus quoted tax do not sum to quoted total) and inconsistent statements on a single page (quoting two different amounts a couple inches apart from each other). What a mess!

These matters are now pending before DOT in my complaint. If you or others have additional experience, including harm of any sort that you suffered as a result of AA's inconsistent or false statements, DOT is interested, and this is definitely timely. I can help you submit this to the right docket in the proper way.

I've e-mailed web services about it. I guess we suffer every time by virtue of the fact that our BE earnings are reduced. In this case, it might be the difference between 1,000 and 2,000 points, although right now I'm sitting at 4 round trips and it's not clear I'll get a 5th, so it may end up not affecting me on that count.

7.5% US Transportation Tax

Here is what's happening:

The correct Base Fare used by BE is shown on the ticketing email, on your receipt that you print from AA.com, and in ITA quotes. However, when you view your reservation online at AA.com, the base fare shown (usually a round number) actually includes 7.5% US Transportation Tax, so you have to divide that total by 1.075 to get the actual base fare (usually not a round number). If you price out your itinerary using ITA, you will see this broken out.

Interesting, I see that now until the Price and Tax Information link. Seems shady to lump a tax into the fare, but now that I know, I can anticipate.

Thanks for the tip.

Hope someone can give me some advice. I have a TATL next Saturday so I ordered a TATL upgrade off the B.Extraa website. It had my old address so I changed it before I did.

Email arrived confirming the redemption but the email had my old address. Question is, how long do they take to arrive and how do I go about redeeming the reward.

Many thanks

Back to three tiers of expirations for me. Sad. Some roll off very soon.

Yes, mine account had about 1,300 expiring 12/13 and I had set myself a reminder to use them..logged in last week tomorder some lounge passes and have nothing expiring in 2013 anymore and still the same number of total points!! I'm just going to print out the online statement...don't want to call them and tip off..

At this point I think that someone's just messing with the system while they upgrade the site. I've already had it change 3 times. Went from three-tiers of expiring points to just one (all in 2015) and now back to two, like you. I just hope they settle on something soon so that I know if I have to burn some points this year or not!

Same here....one of my travelers was very diligent and looked (and found ) a 10% discount...however, this made the ticket disqualified for any BE points
