● Note: Members are able to contact Admirals Club Member Services (see below) 24 hours in advance even when not flying and request gate passes for themselves and others meeting at an Admirals Club for business purposes:

[quote]VISITING THE Admirals Club WHEN NOT FLYING

Members not flying can access Clubs when they have airside access and the airport doesn’t restrict lounge access to departing passengers.

Members can not secure a gate pass from a ticket agent.

Members can not secure a gate pass with merely "declared business purpose" for themselves and others any longer (14 Sep 2016).

Members and non-members can schedule and attend business meetings in the Admirals Club® or Executive Center without traveling if they have rented a conference room in a Club with such and are registered on the daily meeting list. See below.

This requires arrangements at least 24 hours in advance.

FAQ link including a Club access.

Q. I am a member and would like to meet someone at the airport, but I'm not flying today. Can I get through Security to get to the Admirals Club lounge?

A: No. Only those registered in advance and attending a conference in a rented conference room may have access. Casual access / walking up to the ticket counter to request a gate pass is not permitted; please do not put employees in an uncomfortable position by asking.

To do so you must :
  • Present a valid government I.D.
  • Have your name on the daily meeting list
To add names of those attending an event in a rented conference room to the daily meeting list, call at least 24 hours in advance:
  • Admirals Club number/AAdvantage® number
  • Legal name as it appears on government issued identification for each individual
  • Birth dates, including year, for each individual (maximum of two guests allowed for non-conference room meeting)*
  • Location, date and time of non-conference room meeting
We will arrange for Security clearance with the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) to allow you to get to the lounge. This opportunity is available for Admirals Club members only (and their authorized guests), and you will be required to show your Admirals Club membership card, along with a government-issued photo ID.

*(Times corrected to current service center hours)

Q. CAN I PUR HASE A FULLY REFUNDABLE AA TICKET FOR ACCESS?

It's honestly not a good idea, as this practice is specifically prohibited by American Airlines' Conditions of Carriage (Link):

American specifically prohibits practices commonly known as:

...Fraudulent, fictitious and abusive bookings: Fraudulent, fictitious and/or abusive bookings are prohibited. These types of bookings are defined as ... or to gain access to airport facilities....

That's not true. The reduced mileage award flight availability (now 8750 or 10000 each way) exactly matches the non-reduced 12500 one way awards shown on the website. If you can find the flight you want as a regular saaver award online, call and you'll be able to book it at the reduced rate too.

Agent declares reduced mileage awards valid RT only

The title says it all. Anyone else having this problem? I took the ol FT advice and politely exited that call. I'm on hold now on the 2nd go around.

Lot of good this "bennie" is. Looking for MS seat PSP-YYZ RT There is 1 seat OB July 5 but first return available is mid August. Doubt my sister wants me on her couch for 9 weeks. Without MS availability there is no reduction offered. Is this what is known as "bait and switch"?

My guess is it's the PSP segment not the YYZ segment that's the problem, just based on the few times I've tried to get awards to PSP. Since they now offer reduced one-way awards, can you take the 7/5 flight and then buy a ticket home (maybe not even on AA)?

How could it possibly be bait and switch when the offer clearly states that mile saver inventory is capacity controlled. And just because there isn't return inventory now, doesn't mean there wont be down the road.

Actually, the fact that they now allow these to be booked as one-ways is a great innovation for just such a situation. If mile save is available for your PSP-YYZ, then there is indeed the opportunity for a reduction.

Anyway, you're welcome to book at the anytime rate.

In case this helps at all I see more availability from SNA, LAX, ONT. I realize that's not PSP but maybe you can still make it work and save some miles/cash.

Thanks for feedback:
Background: My Annual fee on CC is coming due and I am trying to find a reason to keep it.
My concern is that if there is only 1 MS OB Y seat and no returns available during the summer/ off season when it is 111 degrees here and few tourists want to come here what are the chances any will open up in January when flights operate at 98%.I know ONT is always an option but gas and parking for 5 days would more than offset the 7500 mile saving.I may book the 1 way award and pay for return.
It is interesting that there is ample space available after Sept 15. If I booked late Sept award now and got the reduced award rate then canceled the CC will they try to get me to add miles to the award or cancel it??
One last item... the fee to book this award has gone up from $25 to $35.

Keep in mind that the availability didn't change just because you can now book them as one-ways. The inventory, whether ample or sparse, is what it is.

The advantage I see to booking one ways with the reduced mileage awards is well illustrated in your dilemma... except now you CAN save on the one way ticket and explore other options for your ride home.

Prior to this, the reduced mileage award was only valid on r/t, so your sister would have you for the whole summer on that award!

No problem here booking one way RMA flights.

I just booked a one way into CID and out of ALO but instead of letting the agent build the itin I found the flights I wanted online, put it on hold, an called the number to have the discount applied. The agent did verify the city pairs and that I had the right card.

The RMA page shows HOU as the qualifying airport for July and Aug. Sept lists both IAH and HOU. I am looking to do ROC-IAH at the beginning of Aug. I find that MileSAAver level is available to IAH but not HOU.

If I book ROC-IAH for dates out in Sept, that should qualify for RMA and should only be priced at 8750 miles. If I then move the reservation back to my Aug date, will they take back the 3750 discounted miles since IAH is not on the list for Aug?

This is somewhat similar to the close in fee trick... BTW does that still work?

I booked an RMA 2 months ago, and was told that date changes were free as long as the trip still qualified for the same reduced award. In other words, you can't make a free change to a date that's not within the RMA period for that airport.

And (this part is speculation) it could be worse than having to pay the extra 3750. Since it's a change of award type, they might force you to pay the fee to redeposit, and then re-issue the award.

Questions on One Way Reduced Mileage Awards

As we know, there is a listing of cities eligible for the reduced mileage awards when one of those cities is your destination. When this was for round trip only, there were a few reports of people getting the discount applied using one of these cities as the origination and flying to another US city not on the list. However there were other reports where this was not successful.

Questions:
1. With the new one way awards, is it now possible to always use the reduced mileage award with one of these cities are the origin?
2. Does the agent phone fee apply to each ticket, each record locator, or each call? e.g. If I call and book 2 people on two PNR (two people one way on each PNR), does the fee get charged 1X, 2X, or 4X?

Thanks in advance for your help!

Well... as always there is a lack of consistency in knowledge of their policies. I was just told that as long as I was changing to another MilesAAver level flight, there would be no fee or mileage charge.

Has anyone actually done a change?

So I spoke to a 3rd agent. This one confirmed the worse case: If I book the RMA then change to a non-RMA qualifying date, it would have to be done as a cancel, redeposit and reissue... resulting in the $150 mileage reinstatement fee.

Applicability of Co-Terminals?

Houston Hobby is a reduced award destination, any experience booking into another airport (IAH is more convenient for me)?
