AAdvantage eShoppping by Cartera Commerce
Using, earning miles, problems, etc. (Consolidated thread)

American Airlines is not the contact for Cartera / AAdvantage eShopping .

AAdvantage eShopping FAQs and an e-contact form can be found via the "Contact Us" link at the bottom left corner of the home page.

If you have trouble getting purchases to track, there's also a browser extension to help.

Notes about Giftcards.com:
  • A separate thread exists for discussing Giftcards.com and likely has more data points than this generic thread.
  • Purchases from giftcards.com earn miles on the first $2,000 spent in the named calendar month, meaning for example between March 1st and March 31st. [Note: as of Aug 2023, the $2k limit is per order, not per purchase]
  • Giftcards.com has had various limits over the years, and it was always by calendar month.
  • Some data points show the $2,000 monthly limit is not always enforced. [Note: as of Aug 2023, the $2k limit is per order, not per purchase]
  • In 2022, larger orders track more slowly, and you may need to wait a full month to see miles. Strong advice from the thread is to make multiple small purchases (say under $300) rather than large ones to avoid the dreaded "manual review"
(Copied from the LP thread wiki): Once you click through the AAdvantage eShopping portal to a vendor offer and make a purchase, you will eventually get the associated miles posted to your AAdvantage account as both redeemable miles and Loyalty Points. If the merchant advertises an increase in the miles per dollar spent, you'll earn the higher amount in both redeemable miles and an equal number of Loyalty Points. The same applies if a merchant advertises a higher fixed amount per purchase, rather than a per dollar amount. Examples of this would appear on the portal as, "Extra miles. Was 1 mile/$. Now earn 3 miles/$" or "Extra miles. Was up to 3700 miles. Now up to 6200 miles." However, if the website advertises a "Limited-time bonus offer" for "bonus miles" after meeting a spending threshold, that bonus will only post as redeemable miles and not Loyalty Points. If a bonus is offered for some site-wide activity such as 1000 miles for installing an extension, or 500 miles for enrolling in the portal, or 2000 miles for meeting a spending threshold across multiple merchants, the bonus will only post as redeemable miles and not Loyalty Points.

Some anti-virus software silently blocks tracking, and you may want to consider disabling it for your purchase.

Bought Motley Fool 15 days ago.

Not even showing as a transaction.

Missing 7,400 miles so had to send in a request.

This missing miles crap is getting effing annoying. I have had to do this for literally half of my 8 purchases so far. Ugh....

Are you sure that your browser isn't blocking or deleting some tracking cookies? This should really be a very rare occurrence if everything is set up correctly; 4 out of 8 strongly suggests that something is wrong.

It shows under Recent Store Visits but no transaction.

The entry in recent store visits happens at click-through time, completely on the portal's end. It doesn't imply any successful communication between the portal and the merchant.

The tracking cookies are necessary in order to communicate your information from the portal to the merchant (for the ones that do it that way; there are other ways to implement it which is why you might see things working for some merchants but not for others). So if you see something in recent store visits with no dollar amount on the right side, it's entirely possible that your browser is preventing that communication between the portal and certain merchants.

There are other things that could be broken that have nothing to do with your setup, but I would expect to see that one time in 50 or 100 (or more likely even less frequently), not 4 times in 8. Of course anything is possible, but it seems most likely that the issue is on your end.

I would recommend using a dedicated browser (not safari) with no plugins and all tracking protections turned off, used just for portal shopping and nothing else. Since I started doing that (years ago) I've never had a single purchase fail to track. I find that Chrome's default settings work well, both on desktop and mobile.

Any tips on getting a giftcards.com visa card added to Google pay? I usually select the one with no fees and they provide a link to add (and then I'm able to add with the link via the my prepaid center app), but buying the gc.com Visa, after registering the card I can't find the link anywhere. When I try to add it outright I get an error after the bank check.

Those don't work on Google pay. The site is very clear -- online and phone transactions only.

Posting is different from tracking.

Also when I did MF it didn't take anywhere near 70 days.

Got a free $12 credit for reloading $100 to my Amazon account. I'll end up using the rest to pay for my daughter's child care since they don't take credit cards.

I understand. My point is that in practice it doesn't take that long (or at least it didn't for me; maybe they changed it because of people cancelling for refund after getting their miles).

But even if it takes a long time to post, it should track fairly quickly. That is, the purchase amount should show up under store visits. That means that MF has communicated back to the portal that you made the purchase. It may take you a couple of months to actually get your miles but at least you know that everything got tracked correctly. If it doesn't track then it's likely that there was an issue and it will never post.

i had the same issue on a Motley Fool transaction on 5/11. Showed as a store visit but missing any purchase details. I had read upthread it’s best to cancel the subscription for a refund in the 30-day window and try again. So I did that and for the next few days I got a message when clicking through to MF.com that I wasn’t eligible for the offer. However after a few days that cleared and I was able to purchase a new subscription (using a different email address; not sure if that mattered) and two days later the 7,400 LPs showed up in my AA account.
