I'd stick to just A-319 in your analysis, US has some A-320s from 1989 which are frankly, not modern.

If you're gonna used the older US planes for comparison, how about those MD-80's. No airline can fly it's newest airplanes everywhere it serves, so at least compare apples to apples.

Comparing "apples to apples" and AA still comes ahead - like it always does compared to US Airways.

I'm not using anything, I was merely saying to another poster that saying modern A-319s and A-320s was potentially flawed because some of the A-320s were not modern. In fact, a couple posts upthread I defended US Airways

American Airlines starting 2nd Daily CLT-LHR
American Airlines annouced today that they will launch a second daily flight between Charlotte and London Heathrow with an Airbus A330-200 in addition to the A330-300 already flying between CLT and LHR. The additional service will begin Sept. 13 and is available for booking July 6. It will depart at 10:30 p.m. and arrive in London at 11:25 a.m. the following day.

Nice! At least for me, it'll be great to have a later departure for that route.
It seems an odd time to add the flight, at the end of the busy summer travel season, though I expect terms of getting the slot may mean using it as soon as it's available.

More deatils about the new flight:
We know it will be operated on an A330-200 abd that departs Charlotte at 10:30pm and arrives in London at 11:25am. The flight will depart London at 2:25pm and arrive back in Charlotte at 6:20pm. The new flight will have the flight numbers:
CLT-LHR- US 732
LHR-CLT- US 733
The same flight #s that CLT-LGW-CLT operated under, until it became US 730/731 when it switched to Heathrow.

Meridian and Laurel, Mississippi will be added to the AA network come November. They will be flown as EAS by ExpressJet with CRJ-200s from Dallas.

I don't know if this has been posted yet but it seems that AA will soon (some now, some a little later) operate 738's from PHL to DTW, PHX, CLT. US equipment is being redeployed to other AA routes (example 319 on RDU-MIA).
I don't know the full extent of the route rationalization but it seems that on certain routes that are solely AA or US, US/AA are looking to provide a mix of capacity across the two brands.

Flying can't shift much from one to the other. The MOU between AA/US, APA and USAPA stipulate a minimum number of block hours for each side. Routes can, however, shift between sides nearly without limit as long as the block hours flown by each side remains about the same.

They also have 757 with are even older then that, the 320's you talk about I believe have been upgraded to the newer engine, they also have no problems making the PHX-DTW, PHX-MSP, PHX-CHM.

Which one is more fuel efficient A320 or MD-80? When it comes to airlines profit comes before comfort...

in main cabin extra, the AA A319 and A321s beats the MD80, hands down. (AC/USB power, AVOD IFE, larger overhead bins that actually fit your rollerboard) Profit and comfort all in one.
