I'll be interested to see how much the international wifi cost as well. Was that discussed on the tour today?

The advertising screens at Gate D23 said "complimentary wifi". I did not ask about it.

It might be complimentary initially?

Yeah I agree. I think I'll stick with 31 for right now. The new configuration is so unfriendly for couples. Thats one thing I liked about the 772. The 2-5-2 was a lot better then even BA's 3-3-3

According to the press release, it is until the end of March.

Otherwise, no pricing disclosed AFIK.

No wonder AA is in bankruptcy.
Thank you!
While I expected that the seats were going to be exactly the same (MCE vs MC) I had the hopes that somehow they could have spread out the seats with something like a wider armrest or double armrest, or whatever clever idea to improve a little bit shoulder room.
I don't care much for the hip room but I am definitely wide at my shoulders. For shoulder to shoulder comfort, MCE and MC will be exactly the same

Some of you guys think they will scrap these MCE seats and replace them for true PE seats? They cannot even add the sort feature on the new and "improved" website!!!!!!! I know, apples and oranges but I think you are delusional (with all respect)

It is articulated reclining, so the seat cushion moves forward as the back reclines. Therefore, recline should not be affected.

Press release:

Title: Excitement Builds as American Airlines Readies New 777-300ER for First Flight

Date(s): 31-Jan-2013 4:01 PM

Inaugural Flight Headed to Sao Paulo This Evening
FORT WORTH, Texas, Jan. 31, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Marking an important milestone in its plan to create the industry's most modern, fuel-efficient fleet, American Airlines welcomes the first Boeing 777-300ER (Extended Range) aircraft into its fleet. This evening American will become the first U.S. carrier to fly the 777-300ER when it departs on its inaugural flight from Dallas/Fort Worth to Sao Paulo.

"This is a monumental day for all of us at American, and one that many of our people and customers have eagerly awaited," said Virasb Vahidi, American's Chief Commercial Officer. "The 777-300ER is a critical part of our fleet renewal program, offering additional network flexibility and providing increased efficiency, while delivering a state-of-the-art experience for our customers onboard. Welcoming our first 777-300ER into our fleet is a great reminder of American's proud past and promising future."

Freshly painted with American's new look, the aircraft features the modern, new logo with the iconic eagle; silver mica paint to maintain the "silver bird" heritage of American's aircraft; and stripes flying proudly on the tail as a symbol of the airline's origin and name. In conjunction with today's historic flight, American also announces the airline will once again light the tails of most of its aircraft as it converts to its new look.

The 777-300ER introduces new enhancements to the inflight experience, including fully lie-flat seats in First and Business Class - all with direct aisle access; a walk-up bar for premium cabin customers that offers snacks and sweets; and a sophisticated entertainment system offering hundreds of hours of audio and video programming options at every seat throughout the aircraft, including up to 250 movies, more than 180 TV programs and more than 350 audio selections.

The 777-300ER offers an elevated international premium class experience including increased customer choices with new menu selections, new china and flatware designs, and industry-leading amenity kits. Customers will see the product enhancements across all international fleet types, providing a more consistent travel experience for those flying American's global network.

Every customer can also stay productive and connected onboard. The 777-300ER is the first aircraft in American's fleet to offer international Wi-Fi, enabling customers to remain connected throughout the flight, whether over land or over water. To celebrate the new international Wi-Fi service, American will offer complimentary inflight Internet access through March on all flights operated with the new 777-300ER aircraft. In addition, all customers will have access to individual 110-volt AC power outlets and USB jacks for charging personal electronic devices.

American was the first U.S. airline to order and take delivery of the state-of-the-art Boeing 777-300ER and intends to take delivery of a total of 15 of the aircraft through 2014. In addition to service to Sao Paulo, the aircraft is slated to fly to London Heathrow Airport from both Dallas/Fort Worth and New York Kennedy.

So now AA is going to take 15 of these. Every press release seems like they add another few. Cabin looks great!

The order for "42 B787-9 Dreamliner aircraft scheduled for delivery to American beginning in 2012 and ending in 2018" are nothing but a (really, really bad) dream. Assuming equally spread deliveries, AA was to have 6 of the 787-9 in its fleet as of now.

I verified and chatted with jspira to re-verify - same seats in MCE and MC, same width. The only differentiation is the seat pitch and 3-3-3 seating. I am wondering if AA will some day upgrade the cabin to be a genuine premium economy product they can charge more for, and keep in step with the oneworld airlines that already offers such a product (BA, CX, JL and QF, anyway - and if there are more, somenoe else will quickly chime in).
I took a tour today as well and have posted some pics over at: http://www.travelingbetter.com/forum...ead.php?t=5436

I'm not 100% on this but I could have sworn that the product people on board showing off MCE said "the seats are actually wider too." Hard to tell now looking back at my photos but they certainly did look wider given how tight they are back in regular economy. Regardless, I think the MCE cabin is fantastic. If you ever do end up alone in economy go straight for 33B/J.
